2014 has been very eventful and interesting......Dear Readers, Welcome to a fresh new issue of A-Desiflava magazine. For the first time we've skipped something, our November 2014 release. We thought releasing during Christmas time would be more meaningful and thoughtful, calling it our ‘Christmas Special’December Issue. For the front cover photo, we managed to catch hold of two cute looking kids and got them dressed up for christmas. I’m sure both the kids and their parents will be super duper happy to have their little charmers on the front cover. Thanks to our dear friend Azake Rehman for this photography. 2014 has been very eventful and interesting (as i call it) for Hong Kong. HK has seen one of the biggest protests in their entire history. I was shocked to see the hotter side of these humble, quite and sober looking HK Chinese. Not sure how many of South Asians joined the protest in Central and Mong Kok? but how many of you think that our attitudes willremain neutral

(as i call it) for Hong Kong. HK has seen one of the biggest protests in their entire history. I was shocked to see the hotter side of these humble, quite and sober looking HK Chinese. Not sure how many of South Asians joined the protest in Central and Mong Kok? but how many of you think that our attitudes will remain neutral towards the ongoing protests? Our regular columnist and writer Benjamin Leung has something to say about this...read his article in our BAUHINIA VIEW section.

When it comes to India, most of us are eyeing at the latest happenings with the Modi Sarkar in command. His extensive international travels surely means that his first objective is to draw the attention of Indian NRI’s towards our country. I personally feel its a superb move by our PM, as its easier to go from top to bottom, rather than coming bottom to up while cleaning and sorting the things. We’ve put together 6 months of Modi Sarkar in our POLITICS section.

Hong Kong Eye or the HK Wheel, ins’t it supposed to be the next biggest thing in Hong Kong? When i first saw the HK Wheel i thought its some kind of temporary giant wheels that we have in our Indian Mela’s, but to my astonishment i found that its the upcoming HK Eye. I must say its really small when comparing it to London Eye, Singapore flyer and other observation wheels available across the globe. Not sure if this wheel is a really tourism worthy? Cummon, Hong Kong we are supposed to be the best in whatever we don, then how come the HK Tourism Board think of such a small giant wheel as HK Eye. We did a survey with some HK localites to find out their views about this HK Eye in our FEATURE section.

2014 has been extremely good on a professional and business front with the launch of our restaurant Aamchi Mumbai. However, on personal front it has been curvy and zig-zag for neha and myself. Lets hope for the best in the coming year 2015 for us and for all our readers, well-wishers and Aamchi Mumbai likers. We wish you all a very Happy Christmas & Prosperous New Year 2015 from the entire team of Adesiflava & Aamchi Mumbai.

Adios Amigos!

Best Wishes,

12 Geeky Gifts for Christmas

MOGA Ace PowerGaming on the iPhone is more than just a fad, it’s what everyone’s been doing for a couple of years now, and the trend isn’t hurrying to go out of fashion anytime soon. Make hay while the sun shines, right? That’s what MOGA’s Ace Power gaming controller for the iPhone precisely aims to do. Great Christmas gift to anyone from a child to a retired senior, basically anyone who has an iPhone and loves to game.

GoPro HeroYou know that a GoPro is pretty light, attaches with a suction cup, and can withstand speeds in excess of 150mph, and you’ve seen the videos on YouTube to back it up. But you could still never quite bring yourself to stick this expensive camera to your car, could you? But this GoPr doesn’t cost a bomb. It shoots in HD 1080p, is super easy to use, waterproof and fairly smashproof. Go for it!

LaCie RuggedAll-Terrain DriveSupporting both USB 3.0 and Thunderbolt, the SSD-based LaCie Rugged All-Terrain portable drive is the fastest portable drive on the market. On top of that it comes with layers of protection to keep it from being damaged. This will make a great gift for those traveling a lot, working in a rough environment and don’t want to worry about having to handle their storage device with care.

AugustIn the world of smart locks, which is still at a fledgling state, August stands tall and proud. An ordinary looking device with extraordinary powers, one that promises to reduce several keys in your keychain. With 128-bit AES encryption, this lock protects your keys as well as the physical door to your house through a bolt that only opens if a paired phone is within Bluetooth range. Keys can be generated and distributed to family members or guests who have the compatible app on their phones to gain access to your August smart lock protected property. Alternatively, if you want to control the lock beyond Bluetooth range, it has the capability to join a compatible smart home hub to let you do that.

Nikon D5200While the D5200 is an older model from Nikon’s stables, it’s still competitive and the price for a kit has dropped below US $600, putting it within reach as a gift for someone who wants a great first dSLR. Whether you’re getting started into serious photography or just graduating from smartphone shutterbug mania, you can’t go wrong with the Nikon D5200 dSLR camera. Apart from the solid optics, we especially like its swivelling and rotating 3.2-inch LCD screen -- very convenient. TYLT Energi+

BackpackCharging your phone or tablet inside your backpack through a powerbank is nothing new, but this backpack takes that concept to a whole new level. It comes with a 10,400mAh rechargeable Lithium Ion battery and charging cables can be routed to any of the bag’s six compartments to charge gadgets on the go – upto three at a time. Two of the ports are of 1 Amp for charging smartphones while the third port is of 2.1 Amp for charging a tablet. This one’s perfect for the gadget freak!

Parrot AR Drone 2.0A notch below the DJI Phantom in terms of specs and features, but just as much fun in the air, is the Parrot AR Drone 2.0. Built from high grade nylon plastic parts and carbon fibre tubes, this 380g mini drone is easy to assemble and service and has four brushless motors. It has a 720p HD camera to record photos and videos, apart from running on a 1GHz Cortex A8 chip and sporting an assortment of connectivity options. It has a magnetometer, accelerometer and gyroscope, and can be controlled through a compatible smartphone or tablet app in real-time. It can reach a maximum altitude of about 200 metres.

Logitech X300The Logitech X300 Bluetooth speaker delivers a ton of sound in a tiny package for a

terrific price, according to several independent reviews. Want to listen to some Spotify tunes while cleaning up your apartment? Need something a little louder than your

iPad’s speaker when watching a movie on Netflix? Just connect the X300 to a mobile device via Bluetooth. It comes in copper black, blue, red, and purple. Very good gift

idea for Christmas under US $100.

NVIDIA Shield TabletThe Shield tablet from NVIDIA is one of the few gaming geared models around. Housing the Tegra K1 processor, graphics look great on its 8-inch screen, and there’s also an optional game controller add-on. The Shield isn’t too shabby as a regular tablet either; it performs swimmingly for checking email or surfing the Web, and it offers full access to the Google Play store.

Withings ActivitéHave you noticed all of the wearable gadgets / fitness trackers look distinctively different, wanting to announce themselves to the world in no uncertain terms? If you’re looking at smartwatch with a more traditional, elegant look, then Activité from Withings is the perfect accompaniment for you. It is distinctively chic with designer looks, Swiss made, and it tracks all your vitals. What’s more, it’s water resistant up to 50 metres, meaning you can take it in the pool with you. No problem. Time to make an impression is now.

Logitech HarmonyThe lowly remote control is not just for couch potatoes anymore. From simply changing volume and channels on the television, to controlling more and more of the home overall. That’s where Logitech says the latest Harmony Ultimate products come in. It includes the Harmony Home Hub, which has expanded from controlling home theaters to just about every home automation and control product on the market, from vendors like Philips, Nest, August, Honeywell, Kwikset, Lutron, PEQ, Schlage, SmartThings, Sylvania, Yale, and Zuli. There are two remote options, one with a touch screen on the remote itself. It’s exactly what you want for total home control.

Griffin Woodtone HeadphonesThe Griffin WoodTones Over-the-Ear Headphones offer solid audio performance in an affordable, alluring wooden design. Bass lovers seeking booming lows might not find them beefy enough, and purists seeking flat response will find them too bass-heavy and sculpted, but for those of you somewhere in the middle, the WoodTones offer quality sound in an alluring design. A beauty that performs as well as you’d imagine for an absolute ear-gasm!—Article by : Ameya Pathak

We did a survey with at least 10 different people living in Hong Kong to take their feedback about the new Hong Kong observation wheel. The feedback we received was not very much favoring the Hong Kong observation wheel. Here are some straight feedbacks received from the Localities.

This will surely be an added attraction to the several tourism places in Hong Kong. But,

the matter of fact is, where it stands in terms of the observation wheels available around

the Globe. I think it would probably always stand at the last position. With just height level

of 60 meters it won’t give much of an aerial few of Hong Kong. Also, I’m sure a lot people

working in skyline towers of Hong Kong will think the view from their offices are better

than viewing from Hong Kong observation wheel.

….Deepak

If you ask me, the HK Tourism or the HK Govt. should have donesome market survey before granting the permission to install this observation wheel. I was going through the video advertisement of Dubai Eye, and I was astonished by its features when looking at its height, capsule sizes, facilities inside each capsule and the best part isyou can even have your small events or get-togethers inside the giant wheel capsules. However, I love my Hong Kong and will support everyinitiative that comes along; will surely take a ride on the wheel oncefor sure.

…Frank

My workplace is in IFC Tower 2 on one of the higher floors of the building. For me thisGiant wheel doesn’t sound like giant in anysense. I have the best view already from myoffice and if at all I want my children to seean aerial view of Hong Kong, I’ll probablybring them over to the office. It may be funsitting on something which goes round andround but again the point is that at a heightof merely 60 meters, it does not sound tooexciting to me.

…Kristine

I think there must be several reasons that we are not

aware, on why the Observation wheel is only 60 meters high.

It’s not that people won’t visit the observation wheel or will

not like it; it’s just that we should not compare it with the

observation wheels available in other countries. Hong Kong

has several tourist attractions already and this is surely a

new addition. …Brian

Disclaimer: The survey was conducted by Adesiflava team at Aamchi Mumbai restaurant in Tsim Shat Sui. Feedback was taken from the visitors visiting the restaurant from 1st to 20th November 2014. Around 20 visitors were asked to give their feedback on the subject matter but only 10 preferred to give their comments. Some of the names have been changed based on request. Adesiflava magazine is not responsible or should be held responsible for any of the reviews made above, as these are general views of the persons who were surveyed and does not lead to any conclusion.

I don’t think the Hong Kong wheel is an attraction to anybody, not for

the localities and also not for the tourists. The size is so small, and it

feels even smaller while standing next to the tall IFC tower 2. They

could have thought of making it probably on the Kowloon side? Or

even in some location where there is no other tall building besides

it. Also the concept of Hong Kong Eye would sell to the masses if

they had some more family attractions to supplement the observation

wheel. Anyways these are just my views, and I am sure Hong Kong

Chinese and mainlanders will love it! Once it’s ready.

…Rashid

When I first saw this wheel while on my daily jogging at the Tsim

Sha Tsui promenade I thought it’ some kind of fun fair or exhibition

going on at the other side. The very next day I read an article of

scmp, about the Hong Kong Observation wheel. The next day I

saw the wheel carefully, and realized that it’s actually the same

Observation wheel that the article was talking about. Frankly

speaking I was laughing for a while just looking at the size of this

wheel and was trying to think what’s there in the wheel which is

really tourism worthy. …Gaurav

I would love to take a ride on the Hong Kong wheel during the

laser show which starts at 8 pm. But the drawback is the height at

only 60 meters. If my boyfriend or family visits HK from Germany,

I would rather first take them to Nong Ping Buddha Cable Ride,

Victoria Peak and Sky100 before thinking of going to the HK

Wheel. I have travelled all over the world and have been on the

New York Wheel, London Eye and Singapore flyer. This whole idea

of Hong Kong Observation Wheel does not sound too promising or

exciting to me, but this is just my views and opinion.

…Pawan

I’m not sure if this observation wheel would

be a really a tourist attraction as people

have options like Sky 100 in ICC Tower &

Victoria Peak to have better aerial views of

Hong Kong.

…Cathy

I think the HK observation wheel is for the attraction of

mainland visitors and tourists. It will surely fetch some

good income for the Hong Kong Tourism through the

tourists of China who would love spending money for a

ride on this 60 meter giant wheel. …Tracey

For an observation of overall Hong Kong I

would prefer going to Victoria peak rather than

spending HK$100 at the Hong Kong observation

wheel....Christine Lau

HHe is a reformer and definitely not a radical; he tries to be a very well balanced right-winger. He has strategically handpicked

cabinet of his choice, yet chooses to pursue his ‘own line at his own pace.’ If one were positioned as a Prime Minister for any nation, more so in a dramatic manner like that of BJP’s victory in India, everyone around would judge that person. It has now been six months since Narendra Modi sworn in as the Prime Minister of India and here is his report card as analyzed by eminent political analysts.

Part ia l d ismant l ing of the subsidies, transparent policies on natural resources and making India more inviting for foreign investors—these sum up Modi’s check list so far, as reported by Rediff. One can comfortably claim that Modi is not ideologically driven. As we see his style of diplomacy doesn’t bar

POLITICS

him from implementing policies in favor of the nation rather than those in favor of his party. He modifies the existing laws and policies as he deems fit for the nation—therefore he is not a radical who wants to start over all with new laws.

Modi seems to be continuing with the past policy, but has dramatically changed the style. Modi’s foreign policy is not yet in shape. Their lack of experience is inevitably reflected in the performance—centralized power sharing and curbed individual initiative. Though the party wears a bold face, it certainly fumbles when

it comes to making a firm decision. Many initiatives of the newly formed government are yet to take off. More power to the states and revamping the existing Planning Commission are the most awaited among other initiatives.

Business Standard examines and evaluates six months of policy, decision-making, political management and the new government’s style. The government has its own weaknesses and strengths, and also those who run the government in disguise- the key decision makers. Here is how Modi emerged as a ‘Rock Star’ as the western media refers to him. One factor that largely contributed to this image of Modi is the pent up frustration of the people who were fed up by the simultaneous policy paralysis of the previous government. The same factor can also be viewed as a fear factor to the new

government who are now responsible to live up to the expectations of people. Another reason is that, Modi is in favor of foreign investments and discourages intense involvement of state into the industry—all of which contribute to his ‘Rock Star’ status. However, the fact is that he is as much a pragmatist like any other politician, who likes to play safe.

As a result, while avoiding major changes, the Prime Minister is currently focusing on what can be deemed as small things, such as toilets, cleanliness, e-governance, encouraging the underprivileged to open bank accounts and spurring the celebrities as well as the MPs to “adopt” villages. The last venture has even persuaded a well-known Communist economist to mock the projects as being aimed at turning the people into “mendicants.”

If we have to list out his accomplishments so far, here are the most successful ones— Jan Dhan Yojana, Swachch Bharat, Make in India, Decision to end Planning Commission, Digital India and Smart Cities.

On his maiden Independence Day speech, he launched the Make in India concept and initiated Swachch Bharat, which appealed to the people to a great extent. The BJP government’s budget was allocated in a way which allows Modi to take forth all his plans. Modi continued the Aadhar system for all purposes instead of laying down a new system. These are some of the good signs which prove that Modi will take the country forward for a long time to come.

In Hong Kong, around 7% of the population is non-Chinese speaking people and the number is growing. Assistance to non-Chinese speaking students in adapting

to the local education system and integrating into the community as early as possible has become more important than ever.

Some non-Chinese speaking students encounter learning difficulties and adjustment problems when they study in local schools. Greater care and help from schools, teachers and parents are required so that these students can adapt to the local education system and integrate into the community quickly.

Delia Group of Schools is an educational organization renowned for supporting non-Chinese speaking students in Hong Kong. In

fact, Delia Group of Schools will celebrate its 50th Anniversary in 2015.

Delia Memorial School began as a small institution in 1965. It was named after Sister Delia Tetreault, a Canadian nun from the Holy Mother Immaculate Mission, who fought against adversity and preached in China for years. Delia Memorial School also fought to lay a strong foundation of education for students from a wide range of backgrounds.

Since its establishment in 1965, Delia Memorial School has expanded to several campuses and has become Delia Group of Schools, which consists of 5 Direct Subsidy secondary schools, 2 primary schools, 2 kindergartens, and an international school. Enrolment has grown to over 6000 students

who come from 50 different nations and a variety of backgrounds.

Delia Group of Schools span across New Territories, Kowloon and Hong Kong Island, and include the following campuses: Broadway, Glee Path, Hip Wo, Matteo Ricci, and Yuet Wah Secondary Schools; Mei Foo and Tsing Yi Primary Schools, Mei Foo and Spring View Kindergartens, and

Delia School of Canada in Taikoo. All of their campuses boast classroom facilities that are equipped with technology, such as tablets, laptops, projectors, computer labs, science labs, and rich educational resources.

Delia trains students to participate in athletic competitions in sports and events such as track and field, basketball, football and cricket, organized by HKSSF and other sport associations. Through the competitions, students develop the spirit of sportsmanship and fitness as they strive to win honor for their schools and for themselves.

Delia also nurtures students with aesthetic education. Their students are encouraged to participate in the Hong Kong Schools Speech Festival, the Hong Kong Schools Music Festival, the Hong Kong School Drama Festival, the Hong Kong Schools Dance Festival, and the Hong Kong Budding Poets (English) Award. Not only that they develop their multifaceted talents, they also gain recognition for their schools and for themselves.

Delia is proud to serve a very culturally diverse student population whose academic excellence and extracurricular involvement are exemplary, particularly the Indian community. Their 650 teachers and staff are committed to providing quality education by using current teaching practices and innovative materials to prepare their students for the future.

India’s rapid economic strides notwithstanding, there is still a lot of progress to be made on various spheres,

especially since administrative initiatives can only go so far, compelling charitable causes from noble souls to go the extra mile.

This is a thought which came to Mr. Manik Lal Shah early on, compelling him to set up Positive Way Welfare Society as a means to bridge the gap between the haves and have nots amongst us.

Over the years, Positive Way Welfare Society has been involved in a variety of causes, especially working on the digital

divide phenomenon which still plagues vast tracts of India, notwithstanding the country’s reputation as an IT powerhouse. Having decided to do something about this situation – knowing very well about the kind of prospects which computer knowledge and proficiency opens up, Mr. Manik Lal Shah went about organizing various computer learning and education programs, aimed at lower echelons of society that would otherwise be unable to take any such initiative on their own.

Along the way, Mr. Manik Lal Shah has received immense support from various quarters. For instance, ONGC has donated computers to Positive Way Welfare Society,

a pledge that it continues to honor from time to time. Then there are other organizations and individuals who are all making their contribution to Positive Way Welfare Society in one way or the other.

None of this would ever have happened had it not been for the genuineness of Mr. Manik Lal Shah – something which is all too

apparent from the way Positive Way Welfare Society functions and indeed from the demeanor of Mr. Shah himself. Otherwise, we see a lot of purported charitable causes and institutions these days, whose raison d’être is far from noble – in the case of Positive Way Welfare Society there are absolutely no concerns whatsoever!

We say this with assertion when we see for ourselves the kind of strides made by folks whose lives have been positively impacted by initiatives taken by Positive Way Welfare Society. To give you a very simple example, there are a number of small businesses, such as neighborhood beauty parlors which women empowered by the initiatives of Positive Way Welfare Society are running on their own and in the process, generating a source of employment and livelihood, not only for themselves but other staff that they hire. In a densely populated country like India, such small initiatives can certainly go a long distance.

Alongside, Positive Way Welfare Society has been running a number of camps from time to time for various causes. These include blood donation camps, HIV testing camps, camps for general health checkups, and so on. There is no cost component involved whatsoever for the members coming forth for these camps – sponsors who have clearly seen the value which Positive Way Welfare Society offers, have generously taken on the tab for these camps.

For Mr. Manik Lal Shah, being a Hong Kong resident has not in any way proven to be a challenge, as far as ensuring smooth day to day functioning of Positive Way Welfare Society is concerned. In any case, he makes regular trips back home to India where he oversees the day-to-day functioning of Positive Way Welfare Society in every way possible, besides having a responsible and diligent team that takes care of everyday affairs.

Keen to donate to Positive Way Welfare Society? Look up the donation page on the Positive Way Welfare Society website; as you can see, whether you are in India or abroad, you can easily donate to its wide range of causes and initiatives with remarkable ease!

At A-Desiflava we have been more than overwhelmed by the sheer number of charitable initiatives that Positive Way Welfare Society has taken on over the years!

No news is good news. What about all news covered the same topic but there is nothing new? This is exactly the

headache pervading all Hongkongers. No matter how you describe Occupy Central: a campaign, a movement, a revolution, a civil disobedience or a riot, the result is our HK SAR government should proceed with what she assigned to do, and on the other side, the campaigners acquire little they are looking for. Several rounds of protect all result in the same response: the HK SAR Government officials said, “Hong Kong’s political reform could only implement in the framework endorsed by the Standing Committee of the National People’s

Congress, as if you had been listening to a tape recorder. Other than the argument in political reforms, grievances toward the policy biased, depraved conducts in government officials and disparity of wealth accumulate for a long while and they foreshadow to trigger a large scale showdown. Political discussion, compared with other issues, is particularly view-polarized. To avoid repeating something which is persistently unsolved and to maintain this column’s political neutrality, I don’t mean to criticize, to praise or to condemn anyone or any parties in Occupy Central. Actually, I anticipate this day will come and have used no less than four articles in the

past to analyze the cause of Hong Kong’s inherent problems. Now, I switch another angle to see the aftermath: What does Occupy Central entail to our life in coming days ahead? Can Hongkongers still have a normal life?

Our society is tornBeside the Pro-Democracy Camp vs. the Pro-Establishment Camp, many organizations have actively voice out their inclination to exert social influence in recent months. Having resided in Hong Kong for more than three decades, I dare to say Hong Kong has never been such colorful before but our life is ironically full of darkness:

Occupy Central – Can your attitude remain neutral?

Yellow-Ribbon Camp vs Blue-Ribbon Camp, Reddish- Patriotic Camp vs Union Jack Rising Camp etc. Skirmish haunts our life. No matter which tier of Hong Kong society you belong to or which side you support, Occupy Central chooses a strategy to paralyze daily traffic and business operations which let it become everyone’s stake. Subsequent to face-to-face quarrels, differences widespread to our cyber world. Tides of online arguments, viral photos and “unfriend” action occupied all Hongkongers’ life. Endless arguments and violence is very frustrated and nasty enough in our adult society. The most shocking action was the introduction of an informant’s telephone hotline in secondary school. Honestly, students are encouraged to be attentive to society matters but they are mentally immature to involve in the political intricacy and rightness. The introduction of such hotline makes worse matters worst whereas our future generations are too early to expose to a world full of distrust and infighting. Let’s conceive a typical family in Hong Kong: the father is a police sergeant, the mother is a teacher and their children are Occupy Central activists, and let’s imagine how severe the arguments they have and how irrecoverable the damage brought about to this family amid the sentiments. Other than the teenagers, shocking news is doubled by seeing the popular faces mainly supplies you with funs are hard to immune. Generally,

the actors and entertainment practitioners are silent to political activities. This time, they feel outrageous to comment the tearing gas and the police action. As spotted, the triple shocking result is they have been judged as politically wronged and have been blacklisted. Some of their movies are withheld and some are boycotted to employ for certain period of time. It has never happened in Hong Kong before that our society is torn from top to down, from internal to external and from old generations to new generations! Regarding the protestors, they are mainly teenagers and should be the future owner of our Hong Kong society. Against the backdrop of distrust and hostility, how can our government implement policies and exercise governance in coming decades?

Occupy Central but other areas sparkleThe initial campaign objective is to block Central to petition their view but the evolvement went beyond everyone’s expectation that several districts and major traffic junctions were intermittently occupied and paralyzed. It is not exaggerating to say more districts could have been further occupied if there is no opposite force. With examples paved forward, can you rule out your neighborhood would be the next? With respect to Hong Kong Police Force’s capability to cope with this type of protest, they are on

the leeward side. Police operations, similar to other large company operations, are subject to many management meetings and seniors’ approval to devise a manpower deployment plan. Conversely, protestors are summoned in a flexible and expedient means vide internet and mobile phones. If this hostile relationship between the police and the protestors continues, burnout and exhaustion surely appear on the police side. Crowd confrontation is an extremely stressful operation per se. Experiences tell it usually takes days to recover. Since 28 Sept 2014, the Hong Kong Police Force has undergone this type of high stressful environment for weeks and no one could tell when it will end. It affects not only the protestors but also the overall crime rate in Hong Kong. Even the government and the protestors could compromise on political reform; how about the next controversial subject? There are many thorny agenda pending the Legco to discuss, i.e. the New Territories development and the new rubbish reclamation location. With Occupy Central set a protesting of another form, the continuous administration of the HKSAR Government and the enforcement ability of police are questionable. With student‘s action and scholar’s initiative to trigger ripple effect, other sectors such as triad-gangs and transportation workers could also imitate what they did and move barricades to arm-wrestling with the government once they feel

BAUHINIA VIEW

Page 32: Adesiflava - December - Christmas Special Issue

dissatisfied. It is noteworthy that Hongkongers’ civil awareness and political zeal has reached a summit. Everything has pros and cons, the contempt of police enforcement and the court’s restraining order is also at the historical peak. It is a two-edged sword: Don’t forget the reason why the worldwide billionaires confide in Hong Kong and make influential decisions in Central. The paradoxical phenomenon is protestors aspire their actions could bring about a better Hong Kong, which the arrival is uncertain, nevertheless, we pretty ascertain the best virtue of this city has already been shaken.

One country two systems and two places one security systemIf you conduct a poll at Hong Kong and ask a question regarding “One country Two Systems”, many Hongkongers don’t resent to the business interaction between Hong Kong and China to form a larger system. Nevertheless, nearly all interviewers resent to the proposition that Hong Kong and China are ruled under the same security system because Rule of Law and Rule by Law are two distinctive concepts. This conceptual difference let readers subsequently infer its subsidiaries and apprehend its contrast: the detaining treatment, persecution procedure and right of the suspects are sorely different in

two places. Beside the legitimate enforcement department, many underground forces are patrolling in China. Based on experiences, Hong Kong journalists might be watched and harassed by mysterious forces in probing sensitive news.

Regarding safety, security and human right, China and Hong Kong are locating at two poles. With the establishment of Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) in 1974, Hongkongers had gradually credited the cleanness and efficiency

to the Hong Kong Police Force. Once a better environment developed, more society elites also opted Hong Kong Police Force as their career in the 80s and the 90s, this crew has nowadays evolved to become the most renowned one in the world. Policemen’s neutrality basically should neither tie the political reform nor locate in the core of the hurricane. Nevertheless, protestors pursued a prolonged illegal approach to drive the enforcement and protesting forces confront. Beside the neutrality of the police is waved, their impartialness in execution is also subject to query. Conflicts in Mongkok stained the Hong Kong Police Force further which has been perceived as police-gangster collusion. Reputation requires years to earn but it could be destroyed in days. The teargas and the beating of a handcuffed protestor severely tip Hongkong’s clock backward to the barbaric 70s. More scaring is, every minute is permanently stored in the internet in this era and it requires tremendous effort to polish dirt. Whenever we turn on computer, the horrible scene rewinds and repeats. It will entrench in our mind, in foreigner’s mind, in Hong Kong history and in our next generation’s mind.

In the past few weeks, you could have taken part in various protests and have desperately aired your grievances in the public. Compliments and Condemnations reverberated like righteous-evil dichotomy. The opposite sides lash out against protestors’ economic destroy to Hong Kong while its scale is unprecedented, and the advocate sides claim it is the most civilized protest in the world and it has the least damage to properties so far whereas prolong protesting with the similar scale in other places could have already transited into bloodshed. Both could be right and both could be wrong. In respect of spirit and request, protestors aspire for a sublime goal, a real democratic ecology in Hong Kong. They are neither mobs nor plunders to break into civilians’ house. Nevertheless, the damage to Hong Kong arising from Occupy Central is not just in physical or monetary term. The absurd phenomena showed on the arena are: Professor in the Law Discipline advocates citizen to break the law, policemen cannot enforce the law but had conducted torture deliberately to break the law, and some lawmakers condemn the government’s apathetic stance and back up protestors’ actions. Different from members in other social sectors, the sectors I quoted have the significance which underpins the success of Hong Kong. Their violations not only affect the reputation of their respective sectors but also put Hong Kong on a sinking cruise. Up to this moment, whenever we talk about Occupy Central, different society sectors have different views so our attitude would never be neutral but the positive result to Hong Kong is still far and remote!

BAUHINIA VIEW

Page 35: Adesiflava - December - Christmas Special Issue

Mrs. Poonam Mehta

Share your love and relationship problems with her,she knows it all..

Aunty Poonam Mehta, HK’s well-known Counsellor & our Columnist for Love & Relationships section.

— M. Ed. Guidance & Counseling, Universityof Newcastle Upon Tyne U K and Early Years

Registered Educator in Hong Kong.

Hello Aunty. Firstly I don’t want to disclose my identity. Thanks to Adesiflava Magazine for letting me post my question as anony-mous. My boyfriend and I have been together for 4 years now and I’m extremely close to him and his family, I see them more than I see my own family! I am happy and I do love him very much but I always have a voice in my mind saying that we are more like best friends? Is this normal? I just feel like sometimes we are best friends not partners. We are intimate but not that often! I also have times where I think I do really love him and that I’m just being silly when I think we are just best friends! Am I just being silly? Also in the beginning of our relationship I caught him being unfaithful and we have moved past it but every so often I start thinking about it and then I get paranoid and want to check his phone etc but don’t want to look like a paranoid nag-ging partner. Is this normal or am I just jeal-ous and insecure!

Dear Anonymous,Look at a bigger picture, marriage is a combination of reality and a dream waking up from a good dream to face the harsh morning daylight may not seem like a reason to be happy. But trust me, IT IS!! You find that the reality of marriage is far richer and more rewarding than you ever could have guessed. Hard, yes! Frustrating, yes! But full of its own essences and flavour, quiet charming that’s better than any fable.

At present it seems you are getting confused between fr iendship and love relationship. You are finding it difficult to trust your friend. Focus on your present relationship with him rather than the past. Constant negative thoughts may certainly paranoid you. If you are truly in love with him express your feelings in a positive manner and clarify your doubts.

Your concern is very fundamental, it is true best friends and life partner’s role is entirely different. You have to understand the responsibility, which a married life holds and love relationship that leads to intimacy for life long and calls for commitment too.

Best wishes.Hi there, I’m Anna from Germany and I live in Discovery bay. I got hold of this magazine at an Indian restaurant and I really liked your

column. After few days of thinking, I thought of being bold enough and posting my question. My boyfriend has been communicating with at least three other women by text or phone, early morning and late at night as well as during the day. He communicates with them more often than with me and calls are usually longer than he ever talks with me. He was ok about me checking his call log. He says they are friends but the numbers are not saved with names in his contacts and they never call or txt when I am there? He says he has not cheated on me and does not see this behavior as unacceptable. Am I being unreasonable? He hid this from me, lied about it and now says his friends are private? I’m the one with the problem and we don’t need to share everything!!!

Hi Anna, Thank you for liking my column. Your concern is understandable predominantly when your boyfriend is spending more time with others than yourself especially at unusual hours. There surely is something fishy! Instead of questioning his privacy or checking call log, your nagging may still drift you both apart. Most men are so egoist that they don’t like to be corrected and be told that they are wrong. I feel that both of you are to be blamed in this. Him for doing what he is doing and you for sticking by with the disrespect he is showing to you. It’s not the words that count but the actions and respect in the word “I love you”.

I am not sure how long you have been in

your relationship? He may be bored and using you as a crutch. Share with him how you want him to relate with you and in return know what he wants from you. Mutual acceptance builds security and understanding for each other. If he is not taking it seriously then ask yourself do you deserve such kind of relationship!! Good Luck!

Need your help Aunty, I’m really much stressed and going through a very bad depression right now. I am sorry but I have to keep my identity anonymous and I hope Adesiflava magazine will understand the rea-son for being anonymous as mentioned in my email. I’ve been with my partner now for 8 years we live together in Quarry Bay and have 2 children (2&5). At the weekend my partner went out and went to a brothel with a couple of his friends there he slept with one of the prostitutes, I came to know when I came across a funny video recorded by his friends on his phone in which he mentioned about the fun that he had having XXX with the Russian girl. I’ve never been so heartbroken, how could he do this to me? He’s told me what happened and said he felt pressured into sleeping with one of the girls he’s said he wants a second chance and he’s even pro-posed. I just don’t know if it’s something I can get over it.

Hi!There is certainly something strange about

your partner, he maybe stressed at work or be intimated by his friends. Your pain may probably last long.

If you had not seen the video clip and encountered your partner, would he have confessed? Perhaps may not. If you are looking for a trust and commitment; see that there is a true confession and transformation in him.

Are you able to share life with a man who cannot take pressure but only seek pleasure? “When people cheat in any arena, they diminish themselves-they threaten their own self-esteem and their relationships with others by undermining the trust they have in their ability to succeed and in their ability to be true.”

If you can forgive and forget him truly and also draw your children towards him then this maybe a better choice especially for your children’s future. In these kinds of circumstances children suffer the most. Try to renew your relationship with love and understanding and focus on your children’s relationship with their father and turn a new in your life. Most of all listen to your inner voice too.

TECHNOLOGY

#1.3d printingTechnology is advancing day by day. 3D printing or additive manufacturing is a process of

making three dimensional solid objects from a digital file. According to MIT, this is where "inks" of different materials can be loaded into 3D printers, allowing them to print a huge range of objects. These objects can be of almost any shape or geometry and are produced from a 3D model or other electronic data source. A 3D printer is a type of industrial robot.

#2.Wearables at workMarket is booming, Wearable’s fall into the category of technological devices that a

person wears and are capable of tracking data relative to the wearer’s physical health and exercise. Wearables at work can make health improvement highly accessible, spark motivation and contribution to greater outcomes sustained over time.

#3.Ultra-private devicesUltra-private devices with fingerprint sensors and security layers in 2015 will help to keep

the information more secure. When a hacker breaks into one app, other apps will know it and guard themselves. The hacker will get limited info and won't get the data stored in other apps. A company called Nok Nok offers technology that turns touchscreens and touch pads into fingerprint sensors.

#4.DevopsDevops is a software development method that stresses communication, collaboration and

integration between software developers and Information Technology, IT professionals. The genesis of Devops comes from an increasing need for innovation on the systems side of technology work. It aims to help an organization rapidly produce software products and services.

9 Emerging TechnologiesThat Could Change The WorldAs 2015 approaches it's time to look forward at promising trends that will shock twenty first century. Life was lived at a quicker pace than before. Now 3d Printing, Wearables at work will drastically change our world in the near future. Experts from market research firm Gartner,

the IEEE Computer Society, MIT, and other sources are pretty sure about the tech trends to become more promising. Here is a list of 9 Emerging Technologies to Watch in 2015, as compiled by Times of India

TECHNOLOGY

#5.Software-defineddata centersIn a software-defined data center all elements of the infrastructure, networking, storage,

CPU and security are virtualized and delivered as a service. Hardware configuration is maintained through intelligent software systems. A number of vendors, including VMware are actively developing the software-defined data center approach. Other vendors are developing components and standards that enable the software-defined data center.

#6.Mobile identitiesCompanies have mobilized business applications for smartphones or other handheld

devices. It will create a new generation of work apps that not only keep track of your place. Gartner calls this “context-aware” application.

#7.Smart dataAnalyzing live, operational data and immediately to deliver outputs in real time. Technologies

like Hadoop, noSQL databases will increase volume and velocity of data and flexibility to store the variety of useful data types and formats. Gartner calls this "Advanced, Pervasive and Invisible Analytics."

#8.Smart machinesSmart machines are technologies that show certain qualities. They deal with very high

levels of complexity and uncertainty in forming theory, based on what they have learned and testing those theories to improve conclusions.

Companies are building virtual personal assistants that will watch users’ actions about what they read, what they ignore, whom they listen to, what they say, which meetings they go to and which they skip, and so forth.

#9.Cloud computingCloud computing is where large groups of remote servers are networked to allow centralized

data storage and online access to computer services or resources. DC predicts that in 2014, companies will have spent $56.6 billion on the cloud, and that the cloud market is growing 22percent a year, six times faster than the growth of the whole IT industry. By 2018, companies will be spending $127 billion on the cloud.

WHILE AGO

Hong Kong dance lovers had a wonderful e v e n i n g w i t n e s s i n g G a y a t h r i ' s Bharathanatyam Arangetram.

Before a packed audience, Gayathri performed the arangetram wonderfully choreographed by her teacher Sandhya Gopal of Natya Shikara Bharathanatyam Dance School. She is the 8th Hong Kong student of Sandhya to achieve this milestone.

Starting with Pushpanjali to the last item Kavadi Chindu, Gayathri's abinaya made the audience dumb-founded.

First item Pushpanjali, Andal Kauthuvam, Alaripu showed the dancer blooming in this art form. Then the Vasantha Jatheeswaram and Shabdam on Vishnu showed the expertise the student gained in all these days.

The Varnam in Raagam Ranjani, composed by Maduari Muralidaran was dedicated to the religious Goddess Sowdeswari Amman that Gayathri performed was in praise of Devi the consort of Lord Shiva. The poet talked about Goddess Parvati as Lakshmi as well as Saraswathi to show how all three are one. The mudras and

poses depicting the story of Mahisasura Vadha for 25 minutes was a highlight of the programme .

Ramar Padam and Purandara Dasa Keerthanam on Krishna, Thillana dedicated to Lord Muruga made the audience enjoy the show. The last item Kavadi Chindu of Swami Ramalinga Adigalar on Nataraja the Lord of dance was one of the best and everyone got spellbound.

The chief guest Consul General of India in Hong Kong and Macau Mr. Prashant Agrewal after watching the performance of Gayathri commented that "A spellbounding mesmerizing wonderful performance given by Gayathri makes the day special to the artiste, teacher, parents and all those who witnessed the event. The performance showed the shear hard work put in all these years to pursue the chosen art form. She will be a great addition to the collective performers of this art".

Mr. Arunachalam, President of Indian Chamber of Commerce told, "I have watched her perform in many occasions. Now I see that the artiste has matured a lot and the entire event coordination with music, setting, costume and make up was very good".

Teacher Mrs. Sandhya was proud of her student and told that Gayathri should continue to dance and take Natya Shikara to more heights.

One of the dance teacher, professional dancer and choreographer of Hong King Mrs. Roopa Kiran mentioned, "I saw her dedication and hard work in each and every item which she performed. Nice expression !"

The arangetram was coordinated by Mrs. Anuradha Mukunthan wonderfully well. She gave introductions to each and every item. Along with that she told about the dance school Natya Shikara and teacher who trained Gayathri.

The music scoring by Mr. Jairam captivated the audience.

The entire team consisting of Mr. Ram, Mr. Sam, Mr. Venkat, Mr. Alex Choi, Mr. Mohan, Mr. Mukunthan, Mrs. Deepa Sam, Mr. Sundar rajan, Mrs. Suguna Ravi, Mr. and Mrs. Ramaswamy, Ms. Sharon, made the occasion a memorable event in Hong Kong.

One of the most important factors when it comes to weight management is that your body needs to be healthy enough

to not need that extra fat to protect it!Sounds crazy, but the fat in your body is there for a reason. It protects our organs, regulates our hormones, and so much more.

So if you have any health challenges, there is often extra fat on your body to protect it from those challenges causing more serious problems. That means, until your body is confident enough that it is going to survive

without that extra fat, losing weight is almost impossible!

That’s what sets Skinny Fiber apart from any other product on the market!

3 main ingredients of skinny fiberThere are only 3 main ingredients in the Skinny Fiber Weight Loss Supplement: Glucomannan, Caralluma and Cha De Bugre. There are also very helpful enzymes added to our product: Lipase and Protease.

Now before you read this, yes you can find any of these products available but you will NOT find them all together in one supplement. Skinny Body Care has the patent on this formulation. The comments below are taken

from the research in the links provided. At the end of this note, you will find a testimony page where people using the product will claim it has helped them with much more than weight loss. prevention, decreases blood pressure, anti-aging benefits, and helps in creating lower-fat, low-calorie meals.

CARALLUMA FIMBRIATA POWDERIt quenches thirst and suppresses hunger. It’s believed to block enzymes that form fat in the body. It’s used by natives who go out for hunting, especially in famine prone areas and where there’s a scarcity of food.

CHA DE BUGRE POWDERA small tree found in Brazil is very successful in suppressing the appetite and believed to fight cellulite. Can be roasted and made into a coffee substitute and is a good heart tonic that stimulates circulation. It’s also used in Brazil and Haiti as a tea to help relieve cough, regulate renal function, reduce uric acid, and externally to heal wounds.

Along with the above 3 main ingredients Skinny fiber supplements also consists of :

Amylase Powder - an enzyme that helps digest carbohydrates. It breaks down starch

and turns them into a natural sugar which gives the body energy. Also found in the pancreas and the glands that make saliva.

Protease Powder – a digestive enzyme needed to digest protein. It liberates amino acids needed by the body. Used as therapy for benefits in oncology, inflammatory conditions, blood theology control, and immune regulation.

Lipase Powder - a digestive enzyme needed to digest a healthy amount of fat our bodies need. It hydrolyzes lipids, the ester bonds in triglycerides, to form fatty acids and glycerol. Dissolves fat throughout the body, improves metabolism, and aids in overall detoxification process.

Papain Powder - papain is a protease enzyme found in the papaya plant and is used to treat gastrointestinal problems such as stomach ulcers and indigestion. Breaks down heavy proteins to make them easy to digest and absorb into the body and works well against Celiac disease, shingles, and herpes. It also shortens the healing time of some injuries and surgery.

Cellulose Powder – It sustains blood sugar, maintains good level of cholesterol, supports cell membranes to keep them healthy from free radicals, toxic chemicals, and breaks down biofilm to help detoxify the intestinal tract as well as major organs.

Bromelain Powder- enzymes found in pineapples used for digestive support. It treats inflammation following surgery primarily of the ear, nose, and throat as well as other infections and injuries. Aids heartburn when used with amylase and lipase and reduces diarrhea.

I hope this helps to clear up some of the controversy around Skinny Fiber weight Loss Supplement! This is one of the best and most effective supplements for losing weight, burning stored fat in the body, digestion, stabilizing blood sugar levels and a host of other health benefits!

ASTROLOGY

— Article written by Poonam Motihar

december 2014Very special thanks to Bejan Daruwalla Sir for his continued

support and blessings towards A-Desiflava Magazine.

ARIES: - Ganesh says Love, spirituality, money - all three keep you more than busy in the beginning of the month. The order of importance may vary. You’re reaching out for the warmth of both security and love. You will try to improve: a) your personal relationships, trying to fill gaps, bridge distances that may have arisen. In doing this, b) you try to improve your own attitudes, personality, way of life altogether. Ganesha tells you to let go of hurt and sorrow; don’t brood over the past.

TAURUS: - Inspiration, intuition in the psychic world becomes your main focus, rather than religion or spiritual pursuits (though, of course, these are not really abandoned). It is in your relationships, your personal interactions as well as professional ones, that you make such inspired and good moves that you’re closer than ever with the people who matter to you. On the personal front, there is greater family bonding and warmth, especially with older relatives, parents, and your immediate circle.

GEMINI: - You now work to please yourself in terms of satisfaction, a sense of doing something worthwhile. In fact, it goes far beyond mere job satisfaction - recognition, rewards and results. While you excel at work, you may have a little misfortune financially, in terms of losses at business or even in your personal life. Also, some damage to your heart in your love-life. You need to tread with care where your emotions are concerned.

CANCER: - A tremendously exciting time for you in the sphere of ALL relationships (please note the emphasis), but especially in the areas of marriage, affairs of the heart, forming new attachments. The secret lies in your more caring outlook, and respect for other people as well as your immediate environment. At work, this reflects in your getting things done, achieving results/targets with a minimum of bad vibes, though no less effort.

LEO:- This month is a very different ball

game, indeed - not this world but the next, in fact, several other worlds. Your interest in the hidden mysteries of the universe, in spiritual and occult phenomena, is truly great. So great, indeed that it inspires in you the desire to work for charitable, welfare, humanitarian and social causes. That’s the scale of operation on which you’re thinking. However Ganesha shows me the danger lurking therein.

VIRGO:- Both kinds of activity - positive and negative often come in the birth month of a sign, and yours is setting in. You need to assess yourself squarely and honestly in terms of assets, (both monetary and otherwise) health and attitude. In the money angle, there are bound to be new beginnings that you need to plan for when budgeting. Health care is vital, and neglect and stress are totally out. You will be brilliant at meeting and interacting with stimulating new people, and you make a conscious effort to improve your looks, personality, turnout, in order to be truly impressive.

LIBRA:- The main focus will definitely by money, which you’ll probably make by the fistful. And any which way you turn. It could, of course, be the culmination or coming to fruition of earlier plans or projects. Or it could be lucky wins, windfalls, lotteries, legacies, property, inheritance, hard cash, a killing on the stock exchange - any, or perhaps, all (if you’re luckier than most) - and with ease and not too much effort on your part right now. Not so easily, qualifies. Ganesha. I meant that you don’t have to slog for them.

SCORPIO:- Let’s just look at the work/profession scenario first. Here you confine yourself to steady, quiet work, systematic but not glamorous, getting down to the nitty-gritty. You will need both care and caution in the handling of your assets and money, as it is not a good time for any kind of rash moves and/or speculative investments, no matter how good they seem. On the personal front, relationships

will be not just important, but also vital. There could even be differences and conflicts with your spouse.

SAGITTARIUS:- The calm of last month is definitely over. Both work/profession and the home/family will demand much in terms of time, effort, the willingness to give. That’s good, says Ganesha, because it not only inspires you to truly outstanding efforts in both spheres, but sets you thinking of both your present status and your future plans vis-a-vis financial security. You will learn to appreciate the security and comfort levels you have reached.

CAPRICORN:- The peace and security experienced over the last two months have created a sense of well-being, which now inspires you to go out and enjoy life and living to the fullest degree. Love, pleasure and creativity will all peak for you. You just could be tempted to fritter all that you’ve achieved. There is a danger of your making some careless investments/deals or some rash moves. Commitment to family life will keep you steady.

AQUARIUS:- A total regimen to bring about all-round improvements keeps you not just busy, but also very committed. You concentrate on a).your health and physique, diet, exercise, grooming, overhauling your wardrobe, your accessories - the works, in fact. That is not all - b). Equal attention is lavished on your work-performance, your profession, expertise, knowledge. You might even think seriously about, or actually implement a job change - for the better, of course.

PISCES:- You are in a mood to assess yourself as the year ends - your achievements, failures, personal growth. You will also try to analyze the areas in which your competitors, rivals, opponents manage to win over you, or score points off you. You will realise that your greatest strength will be your people skills and genuine caring. It is this that you seek to reinforce, not just for the immediate future, but also for the years ahead.
