Sewage

• 85 GL/annum currently produced in the greater Adelaide area.

• Approximately 25 GL/annum is reused.

• Storage requirement 40 GL (Hope Valley + Happy Valley 14 GL)

Recycled Stormwater v’s Treated Effluent

• Combined potential yield ≈ 140 GL/annum

• 75% of Adelaide's current mains water supply, (≈ 180 GL/a) & 40% of the predicted 2050 supply (≈360 GL/a) .

• Demand for non-potable water less than potential supply – prioritisation of treated wastewater v's stormwater required. (Council irrigation Demand 5 GL/a)

Distribution Networks

• A number of constructed, committed & proposed networks across metro Adelaide.

• Connection between networks to provide reliability of supply across council boundaries.

Issues Moving Forward

• Mixing recycled stormwater & treated effluent (ASR, benefits)

• Prioritisation of source• Pricing (data, competition, restriction v

price)• Detailed demand study to quantify likely

demand for reuse water• Control of carp in treatment wetlands

Issues Moving Forward

• Assessment of the tertiary aquifers capacity to store expected volumes of stormwater.

• Use of treated stormwater as a source of potable water.

• Interconnection between council networks (operation, liability, benefits)

• Funding
