Head west onto the Great Ocean Road, visiting the famous surfing towns of Torquay and Bells Beach. Explore the beach town of Lorne. Further west, Apollo Bay is a quiet fishing village and the gateway to the Otway National Park.
Melbourne to Apollo Bay: 190km, 2 hours 40 minutes

Day 2: Apollo Bay to Port Fairy (or Warrnambool)Briefly leave the coast to drive through the Otway Ranges. Stop and walk through the beautiful garden of huge ferns rainforest trees at Maits Rest. Back on the coast road, see the magnificent Twelve Apostles, the world-famous giant rock stacks that rise majestically from the Southern Ocean. Visit Logan Beach between May and October to see Southern Right Whales and step back in time in Port Fairy with its old white-washed cottages, quaint shops and a pub on nearly every corner.
Apollo Bay to Port Fairy: 150km, 2 hours 40 minutes

Day 3: Port Fairy to PenolaFollow the coastline into South Australia and the Southern Rock Lobster capital of Australia – Port Macdonnell. Then travel on to Mount Gambier and see the mysterious Blue Lake that changes colour from blue-grey to cobalt blue between November and March each year. Explore Umpherston Sinkhole and Englebrecht Cave beneath the city’s streets.
Continue north towards the historic town of Penola in the world-famous Coonawarra wine district. An overnight stay here is highly recommended, with numerous B&Bs and more than 20 cellar doors to visit.
A walk along Petticoat Lane and a visit to the Blessed Mary MacKillop Centre (on her way to becoming Australia’s first saint) are also worth a visit.
Port Fairy to Penola: 290km, 3 hours 30 minutes

Day 4: Penola to Robe (via Naracoorte)Travel from Penola to the pretty seaside town of Robe via Naracoorte and on the way explore the labyrinth of caverns and amazing fossil beds that make up the Naracoorte World Heritage-listed fossil site. You can even go adventure caving! Enjoy a heritage walk though the centre of Robe, stroll along a stunning 17 mile beach or swim in the pristine waters of Guichen Bay. Robe, one of South Australia’s oldest and first established sea ports, is also famous for its crayfish, so be sure to enjoy this delicious treat if travelling between October and April.
Penola to Robe (via Naracoorte): 91km, 1 hour 10 minutes

Day 5: Robe to Victor Harbor (or go directly on to Adelaide)From Robe the highway skirts along the Coorong, a 142 km tapestry of lagoons, wetlands and sand dunes that end at the mouth of the Murray River. Pass through Kingston SE with its giant lobster and historic lighthouse on the beachfront. Checkout the turn offs to lookouts and walking trails to see the beauty of the Coorong, pelican rookeries and wetland walks. Once you cross the river at Wellington you’re on the Fleurieu Peninsula. Follow your nose to the wineries of Langhorne Creek and explore the antique and craft stores of Strathalbyn.
In Goolwa, take a cruise to discover more of the wonders of the Coorong with its abundant bird life, rolling sand dunes and fascinating Aboriginal sites. Stop for a walk around the foreshore at Port Elliot before arriving in Victor Harbor, where you can take a horse drawn tram tour at dusk to Granite Island to see the Little Penguins.

Child Policy: Child prices generally apply to children aged 3 to 14 years, inclusive. In some cases this may vary – please enquire at the time of booking. Accommodation for children under 3 is generally free of charge but some properties may impose a small charge and/or a fee for providing a cot. Children under 3 years of age travel free of charge on SeaLink services provided they do not occupy a seat.
Room Configurations: 2-share prices are based on a ‘double’ – two people sharing a double bed (queen or king beds at some properties) or ‘twin’, consisting of two single beds. Please request either a ‘double’ or ‘twin’ at the time of reservation. ‘Extra adult’ prices are based on sharing with two other adults in the same room. Should the extra adult wish to have their own room they will be charged at ‘single’ rates. ‘Single’ prices are based on a person having their own room. ‘Extra Child’ prices are based on sharing the same room with two or more adults.

Amendment Fees: Due to the complexity, staff time and communication costs of the booking process, a charge of $22 (incl GST) may apply to each modification made after the original booking.
