This certificate program is designed to help counselors understand the addictive cycle, focusing particularly on alcoholism and holistic recovery programs. Certificate Program Curriculum ALCO 101: The Addictive Cycle Eric Scalise, Ph.D. Dr. Eric Scalise provides a broad survey of addiction and related factors culminating in an explanation of the addictive cycle. He discusses various terms, as well as factors that lead to the development of addictive behaviors. This includes unmet needs and the various categories of addiction and drug abuse. ALCO 102: Alcoholism David Jenkins, Psy.D. Alcoholism is one of the most common and costly of all addictions. This course is intended to help those who struggle with alcoholism, as well as to understand the signs and symptoms, its characteristics and effects, and, more importantly, treatment considerations. Recovery for you or your loved one is possible with God’s help and making the right choices. ALCO 103: Step-Based Approaches and Relapse Prevention John Baker, M.B.A. This course provides participants with a thorough understanding of the rationale and concepts of the Celebrate Recovery program from founder, John Baker. Baker describes the Christian heritage of the Alcoholics Anonymous program, develops a Christ-centered step-based alcoholic recovery program, and discusses various issues that lead to relapse and intentional relapse prevention.
