Workshops with Addiction Prevention Game

“DAY & NIGHT”

• Brief description: Addiction prevention game called “DAY & NIGHT” is designed for preschool children and pupils of lower elementary. According to the concept of the “DAY & NIGHT” game, using addictive substances and absence of health represents the night, whereas health represents the day. Each square of the toy, which is made by folding the leaflet, contains an image supported by a suitable message and activity/game.

Programme Implementation

• As agreed with the leaders of Red Cross Youth (teachers and educators), older members organize visits to kindergartens and lower elementary classes during which they explain and play the game. Each visited group receives a set of flyers in a matching folder on which the game credo is printed out, along with the instructions and rules on how to play the game.

ROLE-PLAYING

• In role-playing a child assumes roles to act out various life situations. Every role-play is an opportunity for a child to explore his/her own possibilities and abilities in a safe way. Role-playing creates ‘material’ for the activity leader, who can use it to raise awareness of healthy behaviour through discussion – while everyone’s having fun

TEACHING OTHERS

• By taking various roles, children become those who teach others. That enables them to become aware of the things they teach others - they practice what they preach. It is an efficient method of activating attention, increasing motivation and changing behaviour.

Holistic Approach to Health

Health model is designed as a flower (taken from the Health Through Education curriculum) with five overlapping petals :

- Physical health – how our body works- Mental health – how we think and learn- Emotional health – how we understand and express feelings- Social health – how we treat others- Personal health – how we see and perceive ourselves and a stem which is:- Spiritual health – our values, what is really important to us
