To God be the glory for giving us a victorious anniversary service this morning! We praise Him for the precious souls that were saved and for people that were able to see what God is doing through our church. Bringing people to Him is a great way by which we can show our appreciation to Him for 33 years of His faithfulness in our church! As your pastor, I am thankful to God for allowing me to lead this church for 33 years. I will have no accomplishment without His power and without your support. I appreciate you, members, for supporting the vision that God lays down in my heart. The church is able to go through all hard times, enjoy its victories and reach its goals because God gives precious mem- bers who love Him and His work. You may be a new member or you may have been here for a long time, but your resolution to involve in His work through this church will never be in vain. Join me as we look forward to what God will do next week on the second Sunday of our Anniversary! Keep yourself involved in prayer and in inviting people! God will surely bless your labour! DR. ED M. A Chronicle of God’s Fruitful Work through His People’s Involvement1977

In December of 1977, Preacher Ed Laurena, already pastoring a Church in Camalig, Albay, was scheduled to see an eye specialist in Ma-nila. Such doctor’s appointment turned out to be a significant moment for him in God’s sovereign calendar. It was because the travel-ling Pastor Ed, while stopping at the San Pedro, Laguna train station due to engine failure, felt that God was impressing in His heart the great burden to establish a Baptist Church within the locality. On his next planned visit, Pastor Ed surveyed the area for the confirmation of God’s call.

1978In 1978, Pastor Ed with his wife Delia and

their baby Mishael left Camalig, Albay to pur-sue God’s plan in San Pedro, Laguna. On its very first Sunday service on January 22, 1978, at a rented make-shift pub, Christian Baptist Mission had 42 in attendance. During the early days of this Mission work, Pastor Ed labored for souls’ salvation and mission’s growth. He spent nine hours daily for soulwinning, door-knocking, Bible studies, visitation, as he faith-fully preached God’s Word.

1979On January 23, 1979, the Christian Baptist

Mission, with an average attendance of 100-150, was organized to be Christian Baptist Church, completely sustaining itself and inde-pendent from financial support from its moth-er Church.

1980The year marked the growth of the Church

as members were continually added and were taught to give faithfully to the Lord’s work. It celebrated its very first anniversary as an in-dependent Church by launching its first fruits offering. It also began supporting missions.

1981The growing Church experienced a great test

through some members who opposed Pastor Ed’s leadership. Again, the Lord proved His call for Pastor Ed and His care for the Church. The disrup-tors eventually left, but the congregation’s atten-dance went down to an average of 40. This chal-lenged the faithful remnants to be more diligent in their church involvement. With the Lord blessing the Church, which had an attendance of over 150, it became necessary to move to a new location in San Pedro Ice Plant along the National Highway. Souls came to Christ and families were added to the Church regularly. This year, the first mission work and daughter church in Los Baños, Laguna was started.

1982In 1982, the Church’s teaching ministry

was strengthened through the opening of a mini-Bible Institute to instill in the church staff Bible doctrines. The Lord blessed this ministry to become the Baptist Heritage Bible College that we know today, which has already trained about 150 men and women called of God for His ministerial work.

1983The year was marked with an acquisition of a

500sq m parcel of land in St. Francis Homes 2 Sub-division. Pastor Ed and the church members joined in prayer vigils and “sacrificial giving” to claim the property. The construction of the building immedi-ately followed even without sufficient financial re-sources at hand. It was all done by faith and the Lord dealt graciously with the Church.

1984-1985While the said building construction was

underway, the Church held its service inside the structure that was partially done. The members showed their willingness and cooperation as Pastor Ed challenged and encouraged them to give cheerfully and sacrificially for God. After a year, the Lord wrought the completion of what is now called the “Old Building.” Likewise, the Church’s name was changed to Christian Bible Baptist Church. Meanwhile, the Christian Bible Baptist Academy, accepted its first batch of stu-dents with six volunteer staff trained through the Accelerated Christian Education (ACE) cur-riculum.

1986Building extension was constructed in the

adjacent piece of land to house the Christian Bible Baptist Academy that started with 30 stu-dents. The Bible Seminary was formally orga-nized with nine students. The second mission work was launched in Batangas province, along with an overseas outreach in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

1987-1988The Church reached its goal and surpassed

its usual 450-attendance mark. Its expected growth prompted another lot purchase and building construction that were made possible through the members’ sacrificial giving and God’s sufficient provisions.

1989It was a decade of blessings as the Church

celebrated its 10th Anniversary. It held the first ever motorcade in the history of Baptist Churches in the Philippines. This is an effort to boost Anniversary invitation and to reinforce the public proclamation of Jesus Christ’s name and of His Church.

1990The Sabbath School was initiated to cater to the

“frontliners” who miss Sunday School lessons due to ministerial duties such as Sunday School teaching, ushering, traffic and security maintenance. Today, over 200 frontliners regularly gather on Saturday nights for the Sabbath School. Extension works in the first church building were completed and the congregation’s average attendance was 1000. The number or First-Time Visitors (FTVs) doubled.

1992-1993CBBC’s first offshore church-planting en-

deavor was started in the State of California, USA. With God’s sustaining grace, the out-reach grew in attendance as well. Meanwhile, the Church hosted the first National Pastors and Workers’ Conference, and was attended by 273 delegates. Likewise, the Church ac-quired another adjacent lot property.

1994The late great Dr. Jack Hyles preached

God’s Word in our blessed pulpit. The Deaf and Mute ministry was launched.

1995-1996In 1995 alone, registered FTVs surpassed

3000. A 280 sqm parcel of lot was acquired for the construction of another auditorium. Area Soulwinning program was reinforced with the aim, “Always Ready To Evangelize Anybody.” Thirteen areas were strategically divided with 13 chosen men to lead in soulwinning, visi-tation, Bible Studies, good news class, tract distribution, and vacation Bible school ac-

tivities. Likewise, most of the mission works were organized into local Churches. Also, the Loving Hands Ministry (Orphanage) was founded to care for orphaned, abandoned and surrendered children. Meanwhile, the Christian Bible Baptist Seminary adopted the name Baptist Heritage Bible College.
