What happened!?!?

A look at what happened in Genesis 3

1. God did not “create” evil2. Shame entered into the world

3. Fear now gripped Adam and Eve4. Childbearing is to be painful

5. There will be no perfect relationships6. The whole earth (ground) is cursed7. Work will be hard and life a struggle

8. Death enters into the world9. They were banished from the very place they were

created to be - the Garden of Eden10. Their relationship with God is now broken

Genesis 4:1-11, 251 Now Adam knew Eve his wife, and she

conceived and bore Cain, saying, “I have gotten a man with the help of the Lord.” 2 And again, she

bore his brother Abel. Now Abel was a keeper of sheep, and Cain a worker of the ground.

angry, and his face fell.

1 John 3:11-1211 For this is the message that you have heard

from the beginning, that we should love one another. 12 We should not be like Cain, who was

of the evil one and murdered his brother. And why did he murder him? Because his own deeds were

evil and his brother's righteous.

Themes in Genesis Four

By Faith

Faith is the attitude whereby a person abandons all reliance in his/her own efforts to obtain salvation, be they deeds of piety, of ethical

goodness or anything else. It is the attitude of complete trust in Christ, of reliance on him alone

for all that salvation means.~L.L. Morris, Ridley College, Melbourne

16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. 17 For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith, as it is written, “The righteous

shall live by faith.”
