1.Dear Amy,
I really enjoyed visiting you in your newapartment. It’s one of the nicest apartmentsI’ve ever seen. I liked everything about it: themodern kitchen and bathroom, the elegantliving room and dining room, and the sunnybedrooms. I can’t believe there’s even agarden with lemon and orange trees in front of the building. I think you’ll be very happy in your new neighborhood. It’s certainly very
convenient to be so near a supermarket, amovie theater, and a train station.
I’m looking forward to seeing you againand meeting your new neighbors.
Sincerely,Norman

3.Dear Brian,
I just finished reading your most recentpoems, and in my opinion, they’re amazing. The poem about the environment is veryoriginal, but my favorite ones are “Missing MyMother” and “Under My Umbrella.”
According to my wife and friends, you’rebecoming famous in many foreign countries, and your poems are being translated intoRussian, Chinese, German, Spanish, andJapanese. I think that’s fantastic!
Have you begun writing your new novelyet? I wonder when we’ll be hearing moreabout it.
Norman
4.Dear Michael,
Remember when you explained to me howto make your mother’s famous chicken andmushroom casserole? Well, I made some fordinner last night, and I’m afraid somethingmust have gone wrong. I might have burntthe chicken, or maybe I didn’t put in enoughonions and mushrooms. I don’t know whathappened, but I know I must have made somemistakes because nobody enjoyed it verymuch. Tom and Nancy didn’t complain, butthey said yours was much more delicious.
Do you think you could send your mother’srecipe to me by e-mail so I can try it again? When you explained it to me, I should havewritten it down.
Norman

You’ve probably heard from Bob about theterrible robberies we’ve been having in ourneighborhood. (There have been sevenrobberies in five weeks!) Of course, everybody’s been very worried because theystill haven’t discovered who the robbers are.
Last Wednesday, my neighbor’s bicycle wasstolen from his basement. The next evening, somebody broke into a building on BrightonBoulevard and took several silver bracelets, awallet, and two wedding rings.
Then last weekend, believe it or not, theReliable Bank was robbed. I’ll alwaysremember the evening of the robbery. I wastaking a bath, and my husband, Bill, wasreading his favorite novel in bed when Roverbegan barking. He must have heard therobbers driving away. By the time I got out ofthe bathtub, everybody in the neighborhoodwas talking about the robbers’ escape.
Well, ever since the bank robbery lastweekend, we’ve all been very nervous. Some of the neighbors are so worried that they’rethinking about moving away. Bill and I havebeen wondering what we should do.
Love,
Beverly

3.Dear Albert,
We’re having a wonderful time on ourvacation in Boston, but we wish you and yourwife were here with us. I’m positive both youand Barbara would love it here. Barbarawould love the Boston Public Garden and theboats on the Charles River. And you wouldhave a wonderful time visiting the universitiesand the Boston Public Library. We’re stayingwith Bill’s relatives while we’re in Boston. They live in a very modern high-rise buildingwith a beautiful view of the river. We’ve beenvery lucky. Bill’s relatives drive useverywhere.
The weather in Boston was very warmwhen we arrived, but now it’s windy. I wishwe had brought warmer clothes to wear.
By the way, Bill and I went to a livelybaseball game last Wednesday, and we’ve beento the ballet twice. We’ve also been very busybuying presents for everybody at home andsouvenirs for ourselves. (Unfortunately, weweren’t able to buy the watch your brotherWalter wanted.)
