February 2016
Dear Willington Neighbor:
P.O. Box 194; Willington, CT 06279
Thank you for making last year such a successful celebration of our first 20 years! Together, during those 20 years, we’ve accomplished much
and have awarded over $236,000 to 333 recipients. Our 2015 scholarship recipients say it best:
“We are very fortunate ... in the town of Willington because of all the families and businesses that are committed to supporting higher education for Willington students.”
“It gives me great joy to accept a scholarship from the town I grew up in and made me who I am today. Thank you to all the donors that go above and beyond to provide opportunities for so many students. The generosity is greatly appreciated.”
Last year we received new grants, initiated new programs, and hit a new record for dollars given out in scholarships. Willington residents, businesses, and civic organizations once again showed their commitment to recognizing student excellence by donating time, services, and funds.
But we have even bigger news to report: We’ve received two grants, totaling $10,000, that we will be able to secure if we match donations from our Willington community. These funds will support two programs and help us build on our record from 2015, when the WSFDFS was able to provide 15 scholarships totaling $21,500.
The first grant, another $5,000 from the Jeffrey P. Ossen Family Foundation, will again be used to match donations for scholarships to graduating high school students who are Willington residents.
The second grant, $5,000 from Scholarship America, is for us to match donations and build a multi-year, need-based scholarship program. Willington Scholarship Foundation Dollars for Scholars (WSFDSF) has been selected as the only Connecticut chapter and just one of 13 nationwide to receive the 2015 matching grant. This summer, we plan to award our first multi-year scholarship, renewable over three years, to a 2015 graduate who demonstrates financial need and has completed his or her first year of post-secondary education with at least a B average.
In addition to these programs, we continue to need your support to make scholarships available to Willington graduates. Please help them to succeed in their post-secondary education by contributing whatever you can to the 2016 Willington Scholarship Foundation Drive. To do so, just clip the remittance form inside and send it along with your tax-deductible contribution to:
Willington Scholarship Foundation; P.0. Box 194; Willington, CT, 06279.
To learn more about our programs, please use the checkboxes on your remittance form and we will be happy to get back to you.
On behalf of all the Directors, sincerely,
David Gabree, Chair Chopeta Lyons, Vice-Chair
