There are lots of different ways we can be at risk on the

Internet.

How can we protect ourselves and keep safe from these

risks?

1. Bookmarks

• Bookmarking and saving a link to your favourite pages means you can avoid going to other sites by accident.

2. Block Other Users

• Block contact from other online users. Most games and websites let you do this.

3. Use a Strong Password

Make sure you are the only one who knows your password.

Make it difficult for other people to guess!

4. Good Online Reputation

You want everything on the Internet about you to be positive.

You want to give a good impression of who you are.

If someone was to search your name what would they find?

5. Privacy Settings

Social networking sites such as Facebook have privacy settings.

You decide who can see what on your profile.

The default settings that are automatically set up for you

are often not the most secure.

Make sure yours are set to show your content only to

your friends.

6. Report Online Crime

Online crime can only be stopped if it is reported.

If you know about any online crime you can ask for help in reporting this to the police.

7. Use Secure Sites

Secure websites use methods like encryption to keep your data safe.

Look for a Web address that starts with “https” and a padlock icon at the top or bottom right of your browser window
