ACTIVITIES AT

RENNERT

Page 2: Activities at Rennert

Another reason why I chose Rennert is the extensive calendar of

teacher-led activities.

Whether you are attending a Broadway show (e.g. The Lion King, Mamma Mia, Wicked), a Gospel Music

service in Harlem, or a free guided city tour, there is something for every taste

and interest!

The great thing is that you practice English while having fun and meeting new people! There are no different levels like in class, and I really

improved my English by talking to other students from higher levels.

Of course the activities depend on the season. In summer, you could do a lot of outdoor activities

like yoga at Bryant Park, a walking tour of Williamsburg or Chinatown, fireworks on Coney

Island, or a Dance Safari on Hudson. In winter, Rennert offers activities like ice skating at Bryant

Park, visiting Christmas markets or watching Christmas musicals like the “Nutcracker”.

I enjoyed a lot of activities in August and September which I would like to

share with you in my new photo album!

STOP #1: WILLIAMSBURG

Walking Tour of Williamsburg with David! First, we took the subway to Bedford Avenue. David showed us McCarren Park where we watched a baseball match.

at Rennert!

STOP #2: BROADWAY

Unfortunately I wasn’t allowed to take photos during the show. To put it in a nutshell: the musical was awesome!

“You are the Dancing Queen, Young and sweet only seventeen.

Dancing Queen, Feel the beat from the

tambourine…”

STOP #3: NEW YORK FILM ACADEMY

I also attended a workshop at the New York Film Academy.

The topic was “Intro to Acting”.

STOP #3: NEW YORK FILM ACADEMY

The workshop was facilitated by Lester Thomas Shane. He works as an actor, director and writer. He has been seen on television, film, the New York stage, and in regional

theatre.

In the first part of the workshop, Lester told us

about the history of theater, and the

development of drama.

The teacher showed us some drama exercises

which were really funny.

STOP #4: WASHINGTON DC

2-day trip to Washington DC! We went by bus to the

capital of the United States. The White House was very

impressive. Unfortunately, we didn’t see President Obama there. I knocked on the door,

but he didn’t open.

STOP #4: WASHINGTON DC

We also visited the United States Capitol which is the

place where the United States Congress meets.

Close to the Capitol are a lot of museums, and most of

them are free!

STOP #4: WASHINGTON DC

This is the Washington Monument. It was built to

commemorate the first U.S. president: General George

Washington. It’s the world’s tallest obelisk. After visiting the

most important sights of Washington DC, we went to a bar to celebrate our Washington trip.

STOP #5: O’NEILL’S

Every Monday, there is a Rennert Mixer at

O’Neill’s Pub! Here you can meet your fellow Rennert students, and have fun with them.

STOP #5: O’NEILL’S

At O’Neills, Rennert students get some food for free, and enjoy cheap drinks. From 4 to 8 PM, you can

get a beer for $4.

STOP #6: Cirque Du Soleil Zarkana

I love “Cirque Du Soleil Zarkana”! The story is about the adventures of a magician named Zark who lost all his powers,

and the love of his life. It was so awesome!

THE ADVENTURE CONTINUES…
