Shakespeare In Love
Shakespeare depicts all types of love. Passionate Romantic Shallow Familial
However, Shakespeare does not take into account the type of love that develops over time. All of his stories depict “love at first sight” or close to it.
For example, in the characters of the star-crossed lovers of Romeo and Juliet, Shakespeare skillfully illustrates the feelings and actions experienced by two people who are infatuated with each other.
Shakespeare’s Purpose
At the same time, he shows how silly and
ridiculous those actions may seem to someone who does not share these feelings. He sums up the attitude of the outside observer in the often-quoted words of Puck, “what fools these mortals be!” (act 3, scene 2, line 115). These are all feelings that we can relate to today.
While reading, watch how Shakespeare depicts love. Is it long and drawn out, or is it quick and passionate?
