Dematerialisation of money market securities – variable coupon rate and fixed maturity dates. Ownership of Securities recoded in the CSD at Beneficial owner level (direct holdings). Completed 29 August 2011. Implemented a Front End Money Market ISIN Enquiry Portal.

Implemented a new securities account structure call Segregated Depository Accounts (SDAs) to provide the ability for clients of CSD Participants to open accounts directly with the CSD to mitigate the risks of their investments being trapped/mixed with those of the Participant in the event of a CSD Participant failure.

Equities Corporate Actions Subscription Services – enhanced CorporateAction subscription services to the investment community in an ISO standard format, Englishcommentary and an established corporate actions support desk.

Hosted the 11th Conference of Central Securities Depositories on behalf of the Africa and Middle East Depository Association

2012 Projects and Initiatives2012 Projects and InitiativesComplete the Business Requirement specifications for an OTC Derivatives Trade Repository

Implementation of bi-lateral links with CSDs through the use of the Link-Up Markets converter with the goal to facilitate cross-border settlement.

Investigating the possibility of offering Tri-Party Collateral agent services to the South African Market for both international and domestic securities financing transactionsStrate to act as the tri-party agent in all repo transactions involving South Africa institutions and possibly in future, other African financial institutions

ACSDA GOVERNANCE REVIEW AND WORK PLAN

The Executive Committee is undertaking a review of ACSDA’s governance following a commitment made at this year’s General Assembly, including;

• Mission, objectives and structure of the Association

• Review of the by-laws to ensure they remain appropriate for the Association e.g. election process, membership requirements, Executive Committee (Size, structure and function) etc.

• Work plan, priorities

• Results and recommendations will be presented in 2012

• An association of the world’s 5 regional CSD Associations

• Formed at CSD 11 – evolution of the CSD Contacts Group

• Collectively exploring areas where the world’s CSDs and CSD Associations can collaborate, e.g.

• CPSS/IOSCO

• Association of Global Custodians (AGC)

• CSD Conferences

WORLD FORUM of CSDs (WFC)

• March 2011 - Committee on Payment and Settlement Systems and the Technical Committee of the International Organization of Securities Commissions issued Principles for Financial Market Infrastructures

• May - July - A small task force of ACSDA members carried out an extensive review of the Principles

• July 28th – ACSDA submitted a comment letter regarding the principles which is available on the ACSDA website. A number of ACSDA members also submitted comment letters

• August 2nd – WFC submitted a comment letter to which ACSDA contributed

• 2012 – Revised Principles and an Assessment Criteria are expected to be issued early in 2012. ACSDA and the WFC will actively participate in the next phase of the process
