ACS GCI Formulators’ Roundtable Representing many of the leading formulators in the industry, the ACS GCI Formulators’ Roundtable is a driving force for the use of green chemistry to create sustainable cleaning and personal care products that are safer to manufacture and for consumers to use. Established in 2007 as a partnership between ACS Green Chemistry Institute® (ACS GCI) and the formulated products industry, the Roundtable works throughout the supply chain, from supplier to certifier, to develop and use greener alternatives and scientifically sound standards. OUR MISSION “To be a driving force in the formulated products industry in using green chemistry to create innovative products that are environmentally sustainable throughout the product life cycle and safer to make and use.” Meeting regularly, Roundtable members seek to advance research and innovation to accelerate the industrial adoption of green chemistry principals within their sector. STRATEGIC PRIORITIES • Be recognized leaders in green chemistry and incorporate risk- based decision making into green chemistry • Promote transparency and consistency through a set of green chemistry principles for formulated products • Drive good science in the development of environmentally preferred product standards and certification • Inform and influence suppliers and academia to develop greener alternatives KEY OBJECTIVES IN 2014 • Update and add to the Roundtable’s publication, “Opportunities for Greener Alternatives from the Formulators’ Perspective” • Address concerns regarding U.S. EPA Design for the Environment’s fragrance standard 2.1 criteria • Develop exclusive educational resource for Roundtable members on eco labels • Continue to further our conversations by inviting guest speakers to our meetings • Collaborate with the ACS GCI Chemical Manufacturer’s Roundtable on a technical programing at the ACS GCI’s Green Chemistry & Engineering Conference, and other longer term projects • Improve publicity of the Roundtable • Develop and publish manuscript to showcase and compare risk vs. hazard approaches to formulations, incorporating industrial case studies To join the ACS GCI Formulators’ Roundtable or for more information, contact [email protected], or 202-872-6102.
