What is MCA? And NCLB? And AYP?

• Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments

• Test given to students in grades 3rd - 11th grade

• Provides us with Edina’s State Report Card

• NCLB stands for No Child Left Behind

• AYP stands for Adequate Yearly Progress

• If students don’t do well on the MCA, Edina doesn’t meet AYP and we have to deal with NCLB!

What is NWEA? And MAP? And RIT?

• NorthWest Evaluation Association

• Company that administers our MAP tests

• What does MAP stand for?

• Measures of Academic Progress: a test given once or twice a year in grades 2-6

• The MAP test gives each student a RIT score. RIT stands for Rasch Unit. The RIT score shows the instructional level at

which the student is currently performing.

What is RTI?

• Response To Intervention• A method of academic intervention designed to

provide early, effective assistance to children who are having difficulty learning

• 3 Tiers of Service for all students

• Alternative Teacher Performance Pay System• New for the 2008-2009 School Year• IC’s are Instructional Coaches that will work

with you on a personal and school goal• Replaces what Edina teachers had to do: a

PGT: Professional Goal Target

• West Metro Education Program

• Consortium of 10 urban and suburban school districts in the Minneapolis metropolitan area

• Formed in 1989 to cooperatively address integration issues in the West Metro area

• Open Enrollment

• Choice is Yours

• National Urban Alliance

• Edina Teachers use Thinking Maps and other NUA strategies to reverse student underachievement.

What is a FOL?

Foundations of Learning FOL teachers are certified instructors who work

with students in Reading and Math during the school day.

Students and Parents receive regular updates on progress via a Continuous Learning Plan, or you guessed it, CLP!
