Individuals with TBI are increasingly recognized as a subgroup at elevated risk for opioid misuse, opioid use disorders (OUD) and dire consequences of opioid use. Still, opioid pain medications play a lifesaving role in acute TBI management and can effectively manage chronic pain in this population. This complicated topic will be discussed by leading experts in the fields of TBI, substance use, and pain management.
