Acquia Dev Desktop 2 Introduction

Easiest and fastest method to publish and development.

Enables synchronization between your local Drupal websites and the Web  due to its integration with Acquia Cloud.

A xAMP stack installer or "DAMP stack" installer, providing a full Drupal-specific stack that includes Apache, MySQL, PHP and Drush. 

Available for Drupal 6 , 7 and other Aquia products.

Easy multisite support (no need to create vhost manually)

Dev Desktop App: The app lets you manage your local or cloud-based sites, including Drupal multisite, and optionally synchronize them with Acquia Cloud. App updates are checked automatically.

What’s Included:

Installing Dev Desktop

Download Acquia Dev Desktop 2 from the Acquia Downloads page.

Based on the file that you downloaded, run the installer like other window software.

If you want your website to be able to send email, select XMail server on the Select components page, and then click Next.

On the Choose install locations page, select the folder in which to install Acquia Dev Desktop, as well as the folder for the files associated with your websites, and then click Next.

On the Port settings page, you can define alternate ports to access the Apache web server and MySQL database server. After you verify the port settings, click Next.

On the Ready to install page, click Next to complete the installation.

After the installation completes, you can start Acquia Dev Desktop by selecting the Launch check box, and then clicking Finish.

Getting start

• Start from scratch, I don't have an existing Drupal site. Choose this to create a new site based on one of a variety of popular Drupal distributions.

• Start with an existing Drupal site located on my computer. Choose this either if you already have a Drupal site you've been working on locally.

• Start with an existing Drupal site hosted on Acquia Cloud. Choose this if you already have a Drupal site hosted on Acquia Cloud that you want to work on locally using Acquia Dev Desktop.

Start from scratch

On the Acquia Dev Desktop window, click the + button, and select New Drupal site

Select a Drupal distribution to start from, and click Install.

The Install a Drupal distribution (Step 2) dialog appears. Click Finish to install the selected distribution using the default options, or modify them as described below.

Acquia Dev Desktop downloads the distribution you selected and extracts it in your local

Drupal codebase folder.

Importing an existing site

Click the + button, and select Import local Drupal site. Enter the related information and then click “OK”.

Select an existing website in the left panel. This site's codebase will be used to create a new Drupal multisite that contains a new site name, database, and files.

Click the More button, and select New Drupal multisite. Enter all required information “create new multisite” dialog and click “OK” After you create a Drupal multisite, Acquia Dev Desktop displays a Multisite selector in the

right panel.

Drush

The version of Drush included in Acquia DevDesktop is now Drush 7.0.0-rc1. To start Drush, click the black icon in right top of “Acquia dev desktop 2” window. No environment variable setting is required manually.

Basic settings

To see settings, click the Aquuia dev desktop -> Prefference in left top of “Acquia dev desktop 2” window. You will see below four tabs General : Some generic setting shown as in screen shot Port : Apache, Mysql and SSH port numbers Config : Apache, PHP and Mysql settings Logs : Drupal, Apache, Mysql and slow queries related logs
