a Overview Boardcoustiq is MDF or plywood-based board, perforated in specific configurations and shapes to offer impressive noise-reduction capabilities.

Boardcoustiq is available in three different board configurations: Euro Slot, Euro Hole and Euro Line Board. The boards can be painted, finished in timber, or covered in any range of laminate or melamine.

The performance varies depending on the configuration of board and installation.

Please read on and contact Fethers Acoustic Solutions for further information or assistance prior to specifying.

d Performance

Matchingproducttoperformance

The performance requirement of your location will have an impact on the appearance of the product, as outlined in section B.

Use the following information to match your performance specification to your project. Once this is established, Fethers can help determine the exact layout of the board appearance. This will impact the line, slot or hole dimensions and intensity.

Performance is based on the perforated board backed with Fethers’s special acoustic material and installed in accordance with Fethers installation instructions.

See the table below for performance guidelines and product code.

AcousticPerformanceComparison

e Board dimension

Standardboardsizes

• 2400 mm x 1200 mm

• 2750 mm x 1200 mm

• 3000 mm x 1200 mm

Customsizes

Any size of acoustic board is a possibility. Obviously the most economic sizes will be efficiently derived from the standard dimensions above.

Edgedetails

Any rebate or edge detail can be accommodated. Standard veneer edging, solid edging or rebated edging are all options.

2/ The GE auditorium is a prime example of where both aesthetic and performance criteria can be met. The Acoustic engineer required specific performance (sound absorption) from the side walls and desk façade with a varied performance from the rear wall. This flexibility in the Fethers Boardcoustiq enabled the perfect acoustic environment for hi caliber presentations.

Colourconcept

In order to create coloured surfaces, the coating mass is dyed. To retain open-porousness, acoustically effective surfaces must under no circumstances be covered in paint. Depending on the intensity of the desired colour, the foundation coating may have to be dyed as well. We recommend painting similarly coloured bordering building components only after completion of the BASWA component.

Most colours are available in the Corbusier colour concept or NCS colour range. The special composition of the coating mass limits the selection of the pigments, as well as the usable amount, so that we may not be able to honour all requests.

Due to the open-porousness, variations in lighting, angles of vision and the manufacturing process chosen, colours may vary from model shades. As is the case with other mineral systems, slight cloudiness cannot be ruled out.

Do you have a specific colour in mind? We’d be more than pleased to send you a sample of our colour range.

04/ BASWAPHON

a Overview Like other Fethers noise control products, BASWAphon reduces airborne sound by absorbing the sound at different frequencies. The key difference is that BASWAphon creates a smooth, plaster-like finish.

Installed using a base insulating board and two layers of rendered material, BASWAphon can create a seamless effect for ceiling, walls and curved surfaces.

The flexibility and colour options mean BASWAphon enables acoustic treatment to become an architectural feature previously unavailable to the Australian market.

Please read the material and if you have further questions please contact your Fethers Acoustic Solutions representative.

Buildingmanagementandworkplanning

The system is purely water-based. Therefore, the drying process is not accelerated by hydraulically binding additional substances. This is why we estimate, with appropriate manpower, a minimum building time of 5 working days per surface.

Sound reverberation zones are planned by an acoustic engineer and indicated prior to applying the foundation coating.

Generally speaking, smooth surfaces are difficult to repair, which is why the final coating should be applied as late as possible during the building process. By doing so, clients can minimise the risk of damage. Gloves should be worn when putting applications on existing ceilings in order to avoid fingerprint marks.

Electrical, ventilation and plumbing installations, as well as any possible fastening devices, are to be precisely determined and planned in advance. Contrary to a normal, smooth plaster ceiling, making corrections at a later point is very costly.

By applying the final coating as late as possible, mechanical flaws –- as well as soiling due to color, fingerprints and the like –- can be avoided.

Ensuring that all involved in the construction are aware of the vulnerable nature of the final coating can contribute to a problem-free process as well as optimal end results.

e Installation The quality of the surface greatly depends upon the care that is put into carrying out and adhering to the manufacturing instructions. BASWAphon ceilings and walls are not merely industrial creations; rather, they are hand-made, quality objects and therefore may show small signs of irregularities, furnishing clear evidence of the fact that our products are the result of high-quality craftsmanship.

Installation must be carried out by one of our Fethers licensed BASWAphon installers. The special techniques must be adhered to in order to ensure a perfect finish every time.

Should the ceiling be exposed to extreme side light, minimal signs of unevenness in the smooth white surfaces may become visible.

Suspendedceilings

In order to avoid partial soiling of the surface and to uphold the fire resistance class F30, the system requires a closed ceiling sub-structure. A standard suspended system made out of metal tracks can be used for the sub-structure. Wooden sub-structures are not recommended, due to possible fissures as a result of long-term deformation.

As a suspension basis for the BASWAphon – Construction, a solid 12.5 mm plaster board or plaster fibre panel covering should be chosen. (When constructing in humid rooms, such as swimming pools, the choice of substructure must be determined on the basis of building physics.)

In order to avoid partial soiling of the surface, the butt joints have to be levelled out. If a pressure differential over the ceiling application cannot be ruled out, a large opening, which can be concealed with a loudspeaker cloth, should be formed.

The surface of the suspended ceilings must be dry and free of any dust particles. The pre-coated supporting panels are glued entirely on the smoothed plaster board ceiling with a gypsum-based adhesive. Additional mechanical fastening is not necessary.

Vaulted,archedsurfaces

When dealing with vaulted ceilings or surfaces with severe curves, the pre-coated mineral fibre panels are cut into approximately 3/4 of the way and are then carefully pre-bent and glued to the surface.

In the case of radii of less than 0.5 m, we recommend constructing with an uncoated mineral fibre panel as a basis which is then coated in three working stages (BASWAphon Fill, BASWAphon 407 and BASWAphon – Top).

Thanks to the supporting panels’ high degree of flexibility, not only can walls of simple vaults be developed, but also cross-vaults and/or double-curved walls. Depending upon the appearance of the object, structured surfaces can also be developed as is the case with restorations of historically valuable buildings.

Massiveceilings

BASWAphon acoustic systems have been tried, tested and proven to be ideal for this application thanks to a minimal loss in ceiling height, the additional thermal insulation and the system’s seamlessness, all combined with exceptional acoustics.

When dealing with already existing ceilings (abrasion, coat of paint), the adhesive strength should be determined in advance. Should it be less than 250 N/m2, the background has to be strengthened by an insulation liquid suitable for the existing coating and/or an additional mechanical fastening has to be placed on the glued supporting panels with BASWA metal clips.

Otherwise, the supporting panels’ entire surface is glued on the dust-free and forming-oil-free cement ceiling with the adhesive suited for the background. Casing offsets larger than 3 mm have to be levelled out in advance.

WallConstruction

Mechanical stability can be increased by incorporating a net into the construction. The BASWAphon acoustic system can also be used for projection purposes; that is, for overhead projectors, movie and slide presentations. The application of the system on walls is similar to ceiling application. As an alternative, a white synthetic reinforcement net can either be partially or entirely embedded when the first foundation layer is being applied (BASWAphon – 407). This helps increase system stability. However, additional reinforcement may cause absorption to be somewhat diminished.

Maximum mechanical stability of specific exposed areas can be attained by applying curtain walling made out of mineral building material. This is then covered by the acoustically effective surface, thereby creating a seamless wall. The transition region between the curtain walling and the BASWAphon supporting panel ought to be reinforced with a net in order to prevent the formation of fissures.
