Your path to a career in accounting, finance and accounting management: Bellerbys A Level Programme Top A Level grades are a requirement for all students looking to study Accounting and Finance at a top UK university. Our A Level Programme will provide you with all the in-depth preparation, support and knowledge you need to get on to the most demanding and competitive degree courses.

Accounting and finance degree essentialsOne of the first questions our students ask is “what A Levels do I need to take in order to study Accounting and Finance at university?” If you are looking to progress to a top UK university, you will need to have obtained a minimum of three A Levels and one of these should be in Mathematics and at least at grade A standard. The other A Levels can be from a range of subjects however, students should note that many universities exclude Critical Thinking and General Studies.

Based on the A Level syllabus the Business, Finance and Management Foundation programme will suit you if you are seriously considering a career in accounting and finance, auditing, international finance, management consultancy or accounting management. This course offers a high level of support and guidance alongside expert teaching. Once you successfully complete theFoundation Programme and meet therequired standards you can progress to an undergraduate degree at one of over 70 destination universities in the UK*. Accounting and finance degree essentialsEntry requirements for Accounting and Finance related degrees can vary by university, however many degree programmes have a strong mathematical component and students will be required to have studied Mathematics.

Your path to a career in Accounting and Finance: Bellerbys Foundation Programme Our Business, Finance and Management Foundation Programme is an intensive, 3-term programme which is accredited by Lancaster University.

Additional degree essentials:⋅ IELTS 6.5 A good level of written and

spoken English is needed and the minimum requirement from most UK universities is an overall band score of 6.5 (or higher) with no less than 6.0 in any component.

⋅ Personal statement: All universities require you to provide a personal statement. What will I study?The programme combines core modules with specialist modules. Core modules are English Skills 1, 2 and 3 and Computer Information Technology. Specialist modules are based on corresponding A Level subjects and will give you a strong foundation for an undergraduate university degree.

Specialist Business modulesThe following specialist modules help you to develop a sound knowledge of key concepts in business, management and accounting including: Business Studies 1: Business Set Up; Structure; Finance and Ethics: learn the key challenges involved in setting up and managing a business.

Business Studies 2: Marketing and Human Resources: study the management challenges of marketing and HR through case studies and real business examples.

Introduction to Accounting: learn to draw up double entry book-keeping accounts, income statements and balance sheets for varying company structures, interpret accounts and cash budgets; learn and understandaccounting concepts.

Economics 1 Microeconomics: develop an understanding of economic systems and the allocation of resources, markets - how they work, market failure and governmentintervention to correct market failure.

To help our students develop top level communication and study skills and gain entry in their university of choice, we offer an intensive English Language Preparation Programme (ELPP).

Improving your English and developing your study skills Competition to study for an Accounting and Finance degree in the UK is fierce. Students with a high command English will have a distinct advantage, particularly when it comes to expressing themselves in their personal statements.

We find that many prospective Bellerbysstudents have an IELTS score of below the requirements of many UK universities.To help our students develop top levelcommunication and study skills and gainentry to their university of choice, we offer an intensive English Language Preparation Programme (ELPP).

The ELPP can be undertaken for between one and three terms before joining either the A Level or Foundation Programmes.The ELPP focuses on maximising progress in each of the four core English skills so that you develop a fully rounded language proficiency. You will also acquire the crucial study skills to help you learn faster and with greater confidence.

One of the recognised benefits of this programme is that throughout the duration of the ELPP you will be fully supported to help you keep track of yourprogress and overcome any particularlychallenging elements. The advantageof this is that it ensures you reach therequired level of proficiency in the English language for any further course of study you wish to undertake.

Typical Programme Structure: Crucial skills for future academic learning 5 to 7 hours per week: you will also acquire the crucial study skills such as examination technique, note-taking and text scanning, to help you learn faster and with greater confidence. General English – 8 to 10 hours per week: grammatical accuracy, sentence formation and structure, English tense system, identifying structure and meaning in listening, speaking and reading tasks.

Academic Preparation – 10 hours per week: academic English vocabulary and grammar, academic reading, skimming and scanning texts, academic essay writing, writing about visual information and expressing opinion, listening to lectures and introduction to seminar skills.

Daily homework will also form part of the programme.

Q: Where can I study A Levels if I want to progress to a degree in accounting and finance?

A: Our specialist centre for Business related degrees is London, located in the centre of world commerce with links to nearby global institutions and top business schools. However, our Business Foundation and a range of business related A Levels are also taught at Brighton, Cambridge and Oxford.

Q: What are the entry requirements for the A Level Programme?

A: To join the A level Programme you will need: ⋅ An IELTS level of at least 5.5 ⋅ Evidence of a good high school or secondary

school education, or 5 GCSE passes at grade C or above

⋅ To be at least 15.5 years old

Q: When can I start the A Level Programme?A: Our start dates are September (6 term), November

(5.5 term), January (5 term) or April (3 term available in Brighton only).

Q: How long is the A Level Programme?A: You can choose from a 3, 5, 5.5 or 6-term programme.

However, we run the 3-term programmein Brighton only and there are strict entry requirements for the 3-term programme:

⋅ Outstanding high school graduation grades, or ⋅ You are repeating the A Level Programme, or ⋅ You have already studied at degree level

Q: What A Level grades will I need to progress to a degree in Accounting and Finance?

A: To get into the best universities in the UK you will need a minimum of three A levels and one of these must be in Mathematics at grade A standard. Some universities also prefer an A Level in either physics or chemistry. It does vary by university but our teachers will be able to advise you on most appropriate choice.

Q: Are there any subjects that are not favoured by universities for an Accounting and Finance degree?

A: This may vary by university but as a general rule, many universities do not accept General Studies or Critical Thinking. Your teachers at Bellerbys can help guide you in suitable options.

Q: What IELTS level do I need to progress to study for a degree in Accounting degree?

A: You will need to have a minimum of IELTS 6.5 with a minimum of 6.0 in all components.

Q: How important is it to have an IELTS level of 4.5 or above when I start the Foundation Programme?

A: Very important. You will write and submit your personal statement during the first term of the Foundation Programme. For this you will need a good level of English, the ability to express your ideas clearly and be able to show your enthusiasm for the degree you are applying for. Please note that you will need IELTS 5.0 for the January start.

Q: Can Bellerbys help me achieve a higher IELTS level so that I can progress to study Accounting and Finance?

Q: I’m worried about my university applications. Will I receive any guidance on how to complete them properly?

A: Yes. We will work with you on your university (UCAS) applications and support you at each stage of the application process.

Q: I am hoping to become a professional accountant and study to become an ACCA. Will I have to do any further study after university?

A: Yes, you will need to do further exams, but the number of exams will depend on the degree you have chosen and which university you attend. ACCA will grant some exceptions if a student has studied a relevant Accountancy qualification.

Q: What skills do I need to have to do well in Accounting?A: You should enjoy working with numbers, and have

precision and accuracy.
