History of Banking

Authorities hold the opinion that the word bank is derived from the German word “Back” which means joint stock fund. Later on, when the

Germans occupied major part of Italy, the word “Back” was Italianize into “Bank”

scheduled banks in the territories now constituting Pakistan. Following the announcement of independence Plan in June 1947, the Hindus residing in the territories now comprising Pakistan started transfer their assets to India. On 25th of August 1941, Habib Bank inaugurated its operations with the bank’s first branch in Bombay. In

1947 Karachi saw its first commercial bank of the newly formed Islamic Republic of Pakistan, when the bank
