Federal Agencies• Saturated! Hard to Develop! NOFA’s Only!

The State• Your state has…spare money? Really?

Your City• See “State!”

Business Community• TONS(!!!) of work‐ Some successes; some failures

• Do they want to help … homeless … veterans?


Faith-Based Community

Already DOING GOOD!• Quick Start! No Bureaucracy!

Usually Seeking to help NEW people• Their community includes veterans

Already Familiar with the Homeless• From their ministries

Interested in getting help for their mission• But seeking other resources…just like you!

What They Can Do For Veterans!• Emergency Assistance

• Referrals – large numbers

• “Adopt” a Veteran of Veteran Family

• Provide a social environment

• Fundraisers

• Donations for financial needs

• Transportation

• Food, clothing, household items

BUT THERE’S A BIG QUESTION…….

WHY SHOULD THEY USE THEIR RESOURCES TO HELP YOU?? AFTER ALL, DON’T THEY ALREADY HELP ANY HOMELESS VETERAN WHO COMES TO THEM??

Begin with “What YOU can do for THEM.”• Don’t go to the table with your hand out.

• “We have a program for homeless vets, and we thought you might be able to use our re‐sources to help you serve the vets you meet…”

You Must Learn About and Understand the Faith‐Based Community….

• What is most important to the Faith‐Based community about their commitment to those in need?

• What Does the Community see as its mission, and how do they think that mission should be accomplished?

• Where Does the Faith‐Based Community See Itself in the Structure of Social Services in a Municipality?

• How Does the Faith‐Based community think it is viewed by “Other Social Service Agencies?”

• What Does the Community See as Its Strength, and how do they think that strength should be used?

• What Does the Faith‐Based Community Want to Accomplish that it sees as “Hard to Do?”

• How is the Faith‐Based community funded, and what Effect Does That Have on Its Mission and Activities?

• What Are the Faith‐Based Community’s Parameters? What Can They Do? What Can’t They Do? What WON’T they Do?
