Timelines can be horizontal or vertical. Use them to communicate a sense of time and order.
Use a one- or two-word header to help people visualize and remember the steps in the timeline.
Pick, or make, icons that represent the step to further help solidify the timeline in your audience’s memory.
Don’t be afraid to get creative, use arrows, curves, colors.

Obviously, timelines can be used to show a future schedule; but they can be used to show your progress through the deck.

Presentation icons can increase understanding and provide a richer experience. However, they shouldn’t be used in a haphazard manner.
Use them like logos to “brand” a section, and to make a concept, step, or group more memorable.
