First, they don’t have an actual strategy. Many so-called strategic planning processes stop short. They provide the beginning of a vision or a collection of metrics, but they don’t have a real strategy that forces decisions toward a common goal.

Second, they built a strategy that their organization wasn’t capable of executing with their current team, resources, or structure.

Finally, they have a wrong strategy, one that is well designed for execution, but isn’t driving a meaningful outcome with their customers.

Sco is a sought a er speaker, facilitator, and member of the business faculty at mul ple universi es.

His prac cal hands-on experience is accompanied by a master’s degree in organiza onal leadership and doctoral work in business administra on. He holds many industry-leading cer fica ons and is a cer fied structural consultant.

David has been designing and re-engineering organiza ons, processes, and systems over the past 20 years for private and public mul -billion dollar companies in the retail, hospitality, consumer packaged goods, and pharmaceu cal industries.

He has been recognized by mul ple companies and industry organiza ons for his contribu ons to customer service, employee empowerment, and shareholder value. David has provided his exper se in strategic thinking, leadership, and driving difficult change management ini a ves within organiza ons.

David holds a bachelor’s degree in physics and an MBA in finance. He has held numerous execu ve posi ons at Fortune 500 and Fortune 100 companies in finance, organiza onal effec veness, learning and development, call centers, opera ons, communica ons, and more.

He has led teams with hundreds of employees and budgets over $1B. He is a hands-on leader who teaches others how to create a strategy, design the suppor ng ini a ves and organiza on, and drive it through implementa on and support.

David’s approach to projects is to focus on growing shareholder value by empowering the employees closest to the customer to deliver excep onal service.

No organiza on has enough resources to invest me and money into every interes ng idea. New concepts need to be challenged and ve ed against a strong strategy. A real strategy will act as a guidepost for an organiza on and force focus on ini a ves and investments.

FORCES CHOICE

Sustainable change cannot be accomplished without a solid metric and measurement approach. Successful organiza ons measure progress against the strategic plan, key ini a ves and leading indicators.

MEASUREMENTS & METRICS

Strategy is different than aspira on. An organiza on cannot simply say they want to move from #5 to #1 in an industry and expect alignment and execu on. Strategies need to be based on meaningful insights and achievable by the organiza on in order to make progress.

BASED IN REALITY

It is imprac cal to have a three-year plan and not understand how the organiza on is progressing toward the objec ves. Strategic outcomes don’t happen overnight, but there should be milestones along the way to indicate whether the organiza on is making progress.

CLEAR MILESTONES

Strategies must fully explain both what needs to be done and how. If your strategy lives at the boardroom level, it isn’t going to be ac onable. Strategies need to be effec vely translated down far enough into the organiza on to drive alignment.
