Students with specific needs should contact the Office for Students with Disabilities. Active duty military and veterans should contact Veterans Affairs.
Verify TSI statusThe Texas Success Initiative (TSI) is a state-legislated program designed to improve student success in college. It includes an assessment that diagnoses your reading, writing, and mathematic skills to improve your success in college. Every new student takes the TSI Assessment unless they meet one of the approved exemptions listed here.
begin with verificationVisit any campus Advising Office and bring your previous assessment scores, transcripts, or proof of exemption. Once your TSI status is determined, you will receive instructions to take the TSI Assessment or move to the next enrollment step.
Important! Your TSI status does not affect your admission to ACC. Students who fail to meet the minimum passing standards of the TSI Assessment are required to enroll in a course designed to strengthen skills in reading, writing, or mathematics.
tsI exemptionsYou do not need to take the TSI Assessment if you:
• Earned an associate or bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
• Received qualifying scores on the ACT or SAT (within five years), or 11th or 12th grade TAkS (within three years).
• Previously attended any Texas public institution and were determined to have met the readiness standards by that institution.
• Transferred to ACC with college credit from an out-of-state or private Texas accredited college that satisfies the ACC core curriculum and passed courses with a grade of C or better.
• Were honorably discharged, retired, or released from active duty, Texas National Guard, or military reserves on or after Aug. 1, 1990.
• Currently serve on active duty as a member of the U.S. armed forces and have been serving for at least three years preceding enrollment.
• TSI rules are waived if you major in a Level 1 certificate program that requires fewer than 42 credit hours for completion.
Visit austincc.edu/support/assessment/exemptions for more information about TSI status.

Join a waitlist if a class is fullThe waitlisting process is available during early and open registration.
If the class you want is full, you may be able to add your name to a waitlist. Names enter the waitlist on a first-come, first-served basis.
Waitlisting ends one day before open registration closes and names, are removed from the waitlist at that time. Seats may open during the schedule change (add/drop) period but are filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
Check for waitlistingIf a class offers a waitlist, it is noted in the course listing in the online course schedule. You also will see three numbers in brackets: [36/36/2]. This means 36 students are currently enrolled, the class capacity is 36, and there are 2 students on the waitlist.
Add your name to a class waitlistLog in to Online Services and follow steps to register for classes.
If a waitlist is offered, you will see WL-Waitlist in the Action dropdown box. If a waitlist is not offered, the “WL-Waitlist” option is not available.

To claim your seat, log in to Online Services and follow the waitlist instructions.
You will not be automatically added to the class — you must accept the seat by registering. Check your ACCmail account regularly to avoid missing the opportunity.
Don’t be fooled by a seat that looks openBefore dropping a class in which you’ve registered, it’s important to confirm your preferred class Open status – meaning any student can register for available seats.
Log in to Online Services and complete the Express Registration steps. The class you want should appear with one of the following statuses: Open, Closed, or Waitlisted.
You are free to register for the classes with an Open status. Waitlisted status means any open seats are reserved for students on the waitlist. At this point, you may choose to join the waitlist while keeping the class you have.

tuition and feesTuition and fees are established by the ACC Board of Trustees. Tuition is charged on a per-credit basis.
Bills are not mailed. To verify what you owe, log in to your Online Services account and select “Manage My Student Account.” In addition to tuition and fees, you are responsible for purchasing your books and supplies for classes.
• Tuition and fees are subject to change at any time.
• Tuition is due at the time you register and must be paid by the payment deadline to avoid being dropped from your classes.
• The costs listed in the table do not include special course and lab fees.
Residency Form and Your tuitionYou must submit a residency form to the Admissions Office when you apply at ACC and if you have not been enrolled at ACC for one year. Your address determines what you pay in tuition. To claim in-district status and get the lowest tuition rate, you must show proof of your in-district address when you turn in the Student Data Change form. There are four types of residency: in-district, out-of-district, out-of-state, and international.
Residents of Texas:• In-District: You are a resident of the ACC taxing district
Communities in the taxing district are the Austin, Del Valle, Elgin, Hays, Leander, Manor, and Round Rock school districts and the city of Austin.
• Out-of-District: You are a Texas resident but live outside the ACC taxing district.
Non-Residents of Texas:• Out-of-State: You have not been a Texas resident for at least one year.
• International: You are not a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
address on FileStudents must provide the Admissions and Records office with accurate student record information, including names, addresses, telephone numbers, and majors. The address on file establishes residency for tuition purposes and is used to mail important information. To update information, submit a Student Data Change form to a campus Admissions & Records Office. Students must change their major using Online Services.
Residency statusResidency status is determined by your address on file with the Admissions and Records office. Your tuition rate is based on that classification. Proof of in-district addresses is required. Documents that support in-district residency status include: property tax statements, current rental leases, or current utility statements.
Residency changes for the summer semester must be made by:
• January 14 for classes starting on January 13
• February 11 for classes starting on February 10
• March 18 for classes starting on March 17

financial aidFinancial Aid FAQsHow much money am I receiving this semester?Student awards are initially based on estimated three quarter time enrollment status (9–11 hours). The number of hours are determined at the end of add/drop period and are used to determine initial award amounts.
How will the number of hours enrolled affect how much money I receive this semester? The estimated award will be revised if the final enrollment status (at the official reporting date/census date for the session/semester is not three quarter time. Federal Pell Grant awards may be increased, decreased or canceled at this time. Federal Direct Student Loan eligibility will not be changed except in cases where the final enrollment status is less than half time.

Federal regulations require that ACC delay the first disbursement of Stafford Loan funds for all first-time, first-year borrowers. Check the financial aid website for additional information and financial aid disbursement schedule. Visit austincc.edu/support/financialaid for details.
What happens if I have registered for classes without receiving an award notice from ACC?You will be responsible for payment of your tuition and fees by the payment deadline. You can also set up a tuition payment plan and make payments until you receive your award.
how many credits do I need in order to get financial aid?Generally, you must take at least six credits during the semester in order to receive financial aid. Be sure to check with a Financial Aid Specialist for more details.

schedule planning guideNow that you’ve gone through the steps to enroll at ACC, these next pages will guide you as you select classes and register for them.
avoid disappointment. Plan ahead. It takes time and planning to build a class schedule. Here are some tips to make sure you get the most out of the classes you take:
Study the course schedule on the web . The online course schedule is updated frequently before and during registration. It lists each class being offered, its time, location, instructor (if available), and its synonym—which you must know in order to register. Printed course schedules are no longer offered, but each online schedule includes a printable version.
have an instructional advising session . Contact your department for valuable assistance and information unique to your degree plan.
Take classes in the right sequence . Check the course descriptions for any prerequisite courses or other important information. If you are allowed to register for a class with prerequisites, you will need to bring proof of prerequisites the first day of class.
Remove registration holds .Log in to your Online Services account to check for registration holds that will prevent you from registering for your classes. Be sure to clear these before your registration access date.
Create an alternative schedule . During registration, classes fill on a first-come, first-served basis. Have some alternative classes in case your first choices are full.
Follow your university degree plan if you plan to transfer . Students who plan to transfer to a four-year university should follow the degree plan from their expected university. That means contacting them now for advice on what courses will transfer toward your degree, and becoming familiar with any transfer equivalency guides, articulation agreements, and ACC’s core curriculum guide.
How Many Courses should i take?Use this chart to help you develop a reasonable schedule. A courseload is based on a 16-week semester. Shorter sessions require more concentrated workloads.

CORe CuRRiCuluMThe core curriculum for the Associate of Arts and the Associate of Science degrees at ACC represents a common academic foundation . Students who successfully complete ACC’s 42-credit core curriculum can transfer the entire block of courses to any state public college or university and substitute it for the transfer institution’s core curriculum requirements . Transfer students should follow the degree plan from their prospective university and meet with an advisor there to select ACC classes . Particular care should be taken with selecting math and science courses for transfer since many university degrees have specific requirements for these subjects . In addition, it is through core curriculum courses that students satisfy the general education requirements of not just Associate of Arts and Associate of Science degrees, but of Associate of Applied Science degrees as well . The list of core curriculum courses is available in the catalog and on the Articulation and Transfer website, austincc.edu/articulation.
dePaRtMental aPPROvalIf a course is listed in the schedule with a note saying that departmental approval is required, you must call the department chair and request approval prior to registering .
distanCe leaRninGDistance Learning gives ACC students the opportunity to earn credit primarily through online and hybrid classes . Course content and transferability is identical to classes offered on campus so students have more scheduling options and a wider selection of classes to meet their needs . Students also follow the same admissions and registration procedures as on-campus students .
•ONL—Online courses complete instruction and assignments over the Internet and through email . Testing may be at a campus Testing Center .
•hYD—hybrid courses use both online instruction and traditional classroom instruction .
• ITV—Telecourses use recorded video programs, which may be viewed locally on cable, or on campus in the Media Centers . Some courses are streamed on the web .
•PRN—Print-based courses rely on textbooks and study guides as their primary mode of instruction .

seniOR CitiZen tuitiOn exeMPtiOnStudents 65 years of age or older qualify for exemption of tuition for up to six (6) credit hours per semester on a space available basis during the add/drop period for the course . For more information go to austincc.edu/future/seniorcitizens.

WORkFORCe eduCatiOn COuRsesCourses designated with a “W” in their course description are workforce education courses leading to the Associate of Applied Science degrees and technical certificates at ACC . important Veterans informationVeteran students should meet with an academic advisor or Veterans Affairs Specialist to ensure that the classes they are registering for are required for their ACC degree or certificate. The Department of Veterans Affairs will not pay for coursework that is not specifically required for completion of an ACC degree or certificate.
ACC’s Veterans Affairs department certifies veteran student enrollment after the semester add/drop period. The DVA Regional Processing Office typically sends the college the funding for the student’s enrollment within four weeks after the certification is received. ACC will process the refund within five business days. Please be reminded that students receiving financial aid and Chapter 33 benefits will not be issued a refund unless there is a credit on their account after tuition and fees have been paid.
