6. REPORTS OF STANDING COMMITTEES and TASKFORCES

A. Curriculum Committee – Myshel Pimentel The Curriculum Committee had their first meeting last week. There are not many courses in

the queue yet. Tomasia Drummond and Mike McCandless will be at the next meeting to talk about the learning communities’ process. The committee recommended that a taskforce be formed to look at the 2+2 articulation agreement with regards to the fee that is charged to students and how faculty are paid.

B. IPRSLOAC – Edward Modafferi

Districtwide 94% of courses have been assessed once and 33% of courses have been assessed twice in the last five years. The goal is to be at 90% of courses assessed twice in the last five years by March to be ready for the accrediting team visit. Program reviews are due September 2. Edward sent out an email with program review guidelines.

C. FLEX – Gabriel Cuarenta-Gallegos

The full time Flex form is now shorter and both the form and the documentation are to be submitted online. The first meeting will be in September. Last year there were 4 or 5 faculty that didn’t finish the process.

Flex workshops had a great turnout. There were 17 workshops, 140 different participants registered and on average people attended about 2 or 3 workshops. The part time flex form is now shorter and does not need to be submitted online. Submission of time sheets will not be required for convocation, flex workshops, student success symposium and the new faculty orientations.

make a student focused college campus. Mai Meidinger, Will Baker, and Dee Near are going to a first year experience symposium at Pasadena City College at the end of September.

7. SENATE PRESIDENT’S REPORT – Julie Clark

Julie thanked everyone for reviewing the self-study at convocation. The first reading of the self-study will be October 13 and the second reading will be on October 27. Nancy, Julie, and Brian worked on nine faculty replacement positions during the summer. Julie encouraged members to go to the branding meetings that Robin Shepard sent out. Elections for the presidential hiring committee are due September 14 at 4 pm.

9. NEW BUSINESS

A. Information: Reorganization of Areas 2 and 5 – Brian Ellison Child development will move from area 2 to area 5 and philosophy, foreign language and

communications from area 5 to area 2. Brian gave background information and explained the reasoning for the changes. Overall the programs will be better served in the new areas. The faculty leads would not change, they would just transition to the new area. Everyone that is directly impacted is in agreement that the transition should occur. Senators expressed concerns with some disciplines and what changes they would like to see happen in the future. The projected FTES for this fall is 4,043.

B. Information: 2017-2018 Hiring Prioritization

The hiring prioritization committee will now only be looking at new positions. Julie will be working with administration to create a timeline.

10. PRESIDENT’S REPORT – Susan Walsh

Dr. Ellen Junn, the president of CSU Stanislaus, is eager to work with the office of instruction and the office of student services to create a clear pathway from Merced College to CSU Stanislaus. The proposed mission and vision statements will be going to the board for adoption on September 13. The college is looking into naming opportunities to honor people for various areas on campus including the pool, the flagpole in front of the administration building, and the veteran’s center. Susan is proposing to reinstate the position of farm manager to use the 100 acres of farmland the college has.
