A bibliography is called a list of reading material which provides required information to scholars about the particular source of information. An academician can know very well about the existence of a document in a particular field of knowledge by knowing its bibliographical details through a bibliography. It can serve as a book selection tool for the libraries. In well-established libraries, the bibliographies are frequently consulted to know the current literature output, for verification of bibliographical details and the location of material. It is useful for readers as well as research scholars. Every research begins with a bibliography and ends with a better one. Bibliographies are tools for bibliographic control and research and their

Librarianship has been in existence ever since the progression of the human society and developed with the growth of institutions throughout the world. The primary objective of librarianship aims towards the selection, acquisition, process, evaluation, storage and dissemination of selective knowledge contained in books, periodicals, magazines, encyclopedia, dictionaries, directories, computer files, CDs, DVD, Pen drives and the Internet. Essential resources must be properly organized in libraries for the purpose of effective use and retrieval. Hence, the role of library classification came into the existence. Library classification is a system intended for organizing all forms of literature in a systematic order using the globally accepted

notational system. The library classification in spite of far-reaching alterations in the present-day scenario remains the focal point in libraries and teaching schools throughout the world for organizing the thought content and retrieval of the information recorded in documentary and non-documentary forms in the most mechanical way. UDC or Universal Decimal Classification is the most popular and widely used classification scheme not only in India rather throughout the world, particularly in the libraries of science and technology. The present book provides the detailed description on the UDC theory and the practice as well as the varied forms apart from the other pieces of work in this domain in terms of its content, coverage and presentation. The book contains 41 chapters arranged according to the class ordered as applied in UDC. The first chapter is devoted to the theoretical aspects on library classification and UDC, whereas the second chapter provides the detailed depth schedule for common auxiliary of Place for Indian geographical places. The remaining 39 chapters comprehensively deal with the practical exercises having more than 1300 descriptive actual titles of encyclopedias, indexing and abstracting, dictionaries, databases, bibliographies, biographies, associations, directories, journals, reports, and conference proceedings in all the disciplines in science, social sciences and humanities. The exquisiteness of this work lies in the procedure, coverage, presentation of the thought content. It is hoped that this varied style of work which not only guided how to classify the documents according to UDC but also creates awareness amongst the readers about the most popular universe of information resources. It is also the hope of the author that this piece of work not only stimulates the intellect of the reader but also makes them acquaint with the extensive variety of resources.

3. SATIJA (MP) and SINGH (KP). (2010). Colon Classification (Hindi). Ess Ess Publications www.essessrefernce.com: New Delhi. P 241. ISBN: 978-81-7000-611-4.

Colon classification a totally revolutionary classification was designed by Dr. S.R. Ranganathan (1892-1972) which is rightly called the father of Indian Librarianship, but his ideas and methods have been accepted all over the world by thinking librarian. The colon is not only the first model of faceted of a faceted classification, but it is still the good of its class. Now faceted classification is the most relevant model of a library classification. The sixth edition of the CC published in 1961 though too outdated to be applied in libraries of 21st century, yet it is clear and simple model to teach the basics of a faceted and analytico-synthetic classification, that is why it is still being

taught in most of the library schools in India. The colon has been translated in many languages. There are many textbooks explaining the intricacies of the system. Dr. MP Satija’s book on CC in English is quite popular for the last three and half decades. The present book is not its exact translation in Hindi but seems to have been adopted for Hindi speaking learners of this subject. Its introduction, thereby and examples have been written specifically to suit beginners and familiar with Hindi regions. The whole book has been divided into 47 chapters and four appendices. The book can be de facto divided into three sections. The first 13 chapters are on the theory and various aspects for constricting CC numbers. The first chapter gives a brief life sketch of Dr. SR Ranganathan, while the second brief chapters on the history of the CC from

Page 11: Academic Qualifications… - Delhi University

11 | P a g e

1928 to 1987. in rest of the chapters the division of knowledge in the CC, concepts of facet analysis, fundamental categories, devices, common isolates etc. has been illustrated with appropriate examples. The chapters 14-44 are devoted to the specifications of number building on each of the main classes of the CC for z-Z. some special tables and explanations of number building in each main class aptly illustrated. The chapters 45-48 are on book numbers, collection number to construct the complete call number. A very valuable chapter explains the changes in the 7th edition of the CC published in 1987 the appendices contain Hindi-English, English-Hindi terminology. Self-check exercises covering every aspect of the CC along with the answers are very useful to check the progress in learning the CC. it will be very useful for the teachers and examiners, students and learners of CC, examples given are clear and simple and from the current literature. The product standard is quite high, and an illustration makes the book lucid to read. The book has been dedicated to Prof. CP Vashishth who is a well-known teacher of classification and an eminent personality in the field

2. SINGH (KP) and MALKEET SINGH. (2012). Use of Social Networking Sites in India: Practices, Prospectus and Problems. LAP LAMBERT Academic Publishing: Germany. P232. ISBN:978-3-659-22116-3. http://www.amazon.com/Use-Social-Networking-Sites India/dp/3659221163.

Social Networking Sites (SSN) are a vital part of the Web 2.0 technology. The main concept of the book is to address the various viewpoints and opinions on the use of the Social Networking Sites (SNSs) in India, particularly in the academic environment, having a detail review of research on various facets of the social networking sites has been presented. The book also discusses in detail aspects related to SNSs such as, tools and technologies of SNSs, objectives and functions of SNSs, types of SNSs, chronology and tabular representation of the growth and development of social networking sites. Finally, a comprehensive glossary of the terms used in the domain of social networking sites has been provided

along with a few useful appendices, such as, questionnaire and bibliography which is also provided with useful insights on social networking sites. In the academic world and creative circles everybody is taking of it, as if all have become bitten now by this old bug. Plagiarism must be curbed, though it cannot be eradicated. It must be controlled to provide security and encouragement to creators on whose creative labours the society moves onto the path of overall progress. The best means is to sensitize and

educate people from early childhood against this menace and its devastating consequences. This is an internationally commissioned compilation of articles from some of the known authorities in the field, and who have already some research to their credit. Papers falls mostly in three broader categories: theory of plagiarism and ways to curb it; attitudes towards plagiarism in different

countries and various academic disciplines; and lastly, punishment for plagiarism by way of public exposure and trail of their crime and retraction of published articles. The aim is to promote an ethical culture, and high standards of integrity and transparency in the conduct of research and publications. It is earnestly hoped these papers based on research and reflections provide some grist to the mill of scholars and activists working against plagiarism- to make society free of this plague.

Reference sources provide readymade bits of cut and dried information and data which save the valuable time of researchers and writers and free them from the hassles of digging information buried deep in libraries and books. Such information sources not only facilitate research and teaching but also work as catalyst for formal research. It is an agreed fact that quality and quantity of research output depends upon the availability, quality, accessibility and use of reference sources in any discipline of knowledge; Punjabi is no exception. This work systematically identifies lists, classifies and critically describes 500+ reference sources available in Punjabi. Called a tertiary source of

information in library lingo, it is the first such effort in the history of the Punjabi language. Apart from studying their origin and development, it spots gaps in different areas of Punjabi reference sources. Gaps may urge and guide the Punjabi scholars and librarians alike to join hands and produce reference tools in these areas. Such staring gaps are a challenge to Punjabi scholarship to be filled. Works as this are always on-

Library Classification and S R Ranganathan: A Guide. Satija Research Foundation for Library and Information Science (SRFLIS) and ESS ESS Publications: New Delhi. P 292. ISBN: 978-81-936074-7-3. Series Editors No. 7 KP Singh.

S. R. Ranganathan stays put in our thoughts and work even nearly half a century after his death. Some of his work is classic with lofty ideas which always engender new thought for the present age. Ranganathan brought a paradigm shift in theory and practice of library classification and extended its reach much beyond the library walls. Facet analysis is the order of the day, not only in library classification but also in organizing and searching the web. Now the world is experiencing a second Golden Age of Classification and Indexing in the World Wide Web environment. In fact faceted classification prophesized as the basis of all knowledge organization systems and tools in mid 1950s is proving visibly true today. Classification has bounced back with a vengeance. Late Eugene

Garfield aptly said, ‘Ranganathan is to library science what Einstein is to physics’. This work presents a brief summary and importance of Ranganathan’s work in classification, though by no means his best. It is difficult to come out with the best of a treasure in an ocean. He left a huge body of classification literature, full of thought provoking with multidimensional applications. Apart from the Classification Research Group (CRG) disciples his work has inspired many a genius in our profession. True tributes to his importance have been offered from time to time by the greats of our profession. Apart from a summary and chronology of his classification work, this book portrays the current scene on classification studies, practices and literature in India. Lastly it makes a hearty plea to know, value, preserve and perpetuate his legacy bequeathed on us – a legacy which has brought glory to the Indian LIS profession. In nutshell the book is a reminder of his greatness, relevance and our enduring debt to him.

6. SINGH (KP). (2012). Special issue on Agricultural Information Systems and Services in India.

Guest Editor DESIDOC Journal of Library & Information Technology. 32(1) 2012:110

Agriculture has been an integral part of human life ever since the inception of the human race and the requirement for agricultural information is probably almost as ancient as agriculture itself. Clay tablets excavated in the city of Babylon have been discovered containing agricultural information. India is essentially an agrarian society and the life-line of more than seventy percentage of the rural population of India. In India, special emphasis was laid on the development of an agricultural research infrastructure immediately after Independence. During the year 1965, soon after re-organization of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and the creation of the

Department of Agricultural Research and Education (DARE) under the aegis of the Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India, the responsibilities of higher education, research, extension, consultancy and libraries in the field of agricultural sciences including animal and veterinary sciences became the sole responsibility of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR). Since then, the ICAR has been playing a catalytic role in the field of education, research, extension pertaining to all aspects of agricultural sciences and making the country as a self-reliant, hunger-free India as well as a food-secure India. The agricultural libraries have served the

The knowledge economy and the growth of knowledge management, as an essential competency of organizations, provides new opportunities for librarians and information specialists to expand existing roles and utilize the skills they have honed to meet corporate objectives. The new knowledge management is a period of rapid change- a paradigm shift- for librarians and libraries. It can be viewed as either the beginning of a new “golden age” for the profession, or the point when librarians and information professionals became marginalized and perhaps made irrelevant, by the rapid advances in digital computer and telecommunication

technologies and the networking power of the Internet, intranets and extranets. Librarians and information professionals are in a position to transform themselves into value-adding knowledge

Library Resource Centres attached to the educational institutions is considered partners in the entire teaching learning process. Therefore, LICs on their part do all that expected to them. They identify the needed information resources, procure them, technically process them, and organize them and set mechanism to make available to those who may need them. All these activities require necessary funding which is always in short supply. Exceptional growth of information resources on one hand and shrinking budgets coupled with devalued Indian Rupee on the other hand in a challenging task before libraries and librarians. There

has been seen a paradigm shift in recent past in many of the housekeeping operations of libraries. Because of advent of computers and ICT the scenario is changing for good. All these developments warrant a careful analysis and close look at the roles of libraries should librarians are supposed to perform in new e-Environment. Time has come to rewrite the objectives, functions, duties a fresh in the light of 1T enabled environment. Finance being the most crucial element in the whole process of giving a new look to the LIC infrastructure, the Delhi Library Association decided to give a call for the National Conference on Financial Management Library and Information Centres (LIC) in e-Environment. This conference volume has covers more than twenty-six papers parented by the different participants all over the country on the various issues of financial management of library and information centres particularly in the E-environment
