    Audit Findings:

A comprehensive academic audit was conducted by PIQC on June 14, 2009 in order to evaluate the effectiveness of M.S./ M.Sc (Quality Assurance

Management) & Human Resource Management. Following strategy was followed during the course of this audit:

Students feedback forms were circulated to the relevant students for obtaining the feedback based on blooms taxonomy. Students have torate the learning level achieved in case of each topic taught in that particular subject class. Also they have to show the motivation level in

each relevant topic. They were also asked the following questions:

    a) Consideration of topic from this course for researchb) Application of this course in your present jobc) Relevance of the subject to career in general

Interviews of the students (in the categories of below average, average & above average) Informal interviews of the faculty members of H.R.M (Organizational Behavior, Compensation & Performance Management) and

    Q.A.M. ( Q.M.S. & Metrology)

Following were my observations during the course of audit based upon my personal observations and suggestions from students and teachers:

    i) Class timing discipline is not being implemented by the students in its real perspective. Classes of both disciplines have to start at 09:30a.m. but up to 11:30, the students were coming. And the instructors are marking their attendance as well. Now I wonder the time of

lecture which has been passed how he / she should cover or make up. Timing discipline should be followed at every cost.

ii) Class discipline should also be strictly followed. A presentation of assignment was being delivered by the students of M.S. Humanresource Management. As soon as a group of students delivered the assignment, that group went out of the institute and same practice

  • 7/30/2019 Academic Audit Report Sample

    3/22

was being followed by other fellows. I would strongly recommend that students must also attend the presentations of the fellow groups

as well so as to enhance the learning levels. And instructors must also make this practice implement able.

iii) Cheating, a very chronic problem. It has been pointed out by the extraordinary students of the class (H.R.M.) that this practice isfollowed up to the extent that they are saving their data in the memory of mobile phones and going to wash rooms for studying the same

and then copying it in the class room. Mobile phone usage should be strictly prohibited at least during the course of exam in order toavoid the bad repute being created with this practice.

iv) Theoretical levels of the topics are being addressed most rigorously but their practical level is poor in some of the areas as shown in theannexure attached in the coming sheets. It must be essential for every faculty member to discuss the relevant case studies with the

students so as to inculcate the practical application of the theory. If it is possible some relevant videos or clips must also be arranged in

order to create interest or motivation in the subject concerned.

    v) M.S. and M.Sc levels should be treated on separate basis because the research is being primary element in case of M.S. programmewhereas students belonging to M.Sc programme are mostly the practicing Managers.

vi) Library and net facilities are not available here at PIQC on Sunday.vii) Scheduling of the courses should further be improved. If some of the classes have been missed, the topics should not be covered in the

same time, a weeks time or so should be enhanced in order to cover the topic.

viii) Defined Course outcomes are not relevant to the course outline defined. So these objectives must be revised in relevance to the coursecurriculum and to enhance the analysis and synthesis levels of knowledge amongst the students.

ix) Facilities like generators & multimedia should be improved upon in this load shedding atmosphere.x) Schedules of the classes should be well organized. Deviation from the planned schedule should also be addressed in order to find out

the root cause of the problems. It is suggested strongly to compare the plans both designed and implemented.

xi) Attitude problems have been reported by the students that the students coordinator is very rigid and deal with the students like enemiesand no cooperation is available from her side. I have probed in to the matter but no solid point came out of the discussions with the

    students.

As instructors, its our prime responsibility to impart learning up to the level of Application, Analysis

and Synthesis and this is quite evident in case of teaching of Leadership & Organizational

Behavior. And also if we see the box plots of Organizational behavior, the motivation level amongst

the students is on the higher side as level 1 represent the least level of motivation and the level 5

represents the highest level of motivation.

The class of Compensation & Performance Management is mainly focused on imparting Application

and analytical level of learning. We must also focus our attention to impart synthesis level of

    learning amongst our students.

If we look at the box plots of Compensation & Performance Mgt. it is quite evident that motivation

level of students is quite weaker and steps be taken by changing the teaching methodology or style,

to enhance this level as in most of the cases, the lower whisker starts from 1 which is the least degree of motivation.

In case of SPC techniques, the main focused area of learning level is knowledge and

comprehension while it is strongly recommended to focus the attention on application, analysis and

synthesis level of learning as well.

If we talk about level of motivation, mostly responses fall below 3 and lower whisker starts from

    least degree of motivation 1.

Most of the participants respond that Quality Management system application in their job is on the higher level and application of SPC and Metrology

    is on the lower level.

The upcoming slide shows that SPC is most relevant to the careers of students / professionals in

their job, then is the level of QMS and Metrology is least relevant to their careers in general

    CONCLUSIONS:

Based upon the severity of problems encountered following is my proposed priority:

Course objectives / targets should be redefined in line with the course outline and keeping in view the bloomstaxonomy.

Motivation level of students in the subjects of Metrology, SPC, Recruitment & Selection, Compensation and PerformanceManagement is on the lower side. This is to be enhanced by changing the teaching style / methodology/ by enhancing

group discussions / by sharing views.

Practical aspect of the courses should be primarily focused and every subject of course must also be supportedby real life case studies. Group discussions should further be enhanced keeping in view that we have to inculcate the

analysis as well as synthesis level in our students, not just the knowledge or comprehension level. M.S. and M.Sc

    programmes should be focused separately.

Cheating is very simple issue to be resolved. Just we have to announce our policy with regards to this issue andsame policy should be implemented.

Class timing and class discipline issues must be resolved immediately. Only 15 minutes relaxation is to beprovided and after 15 minutes, the student must be marked absent and it should be the responsibili ty of the instructor.
