Step 2: Career Exploration

• Look in detail the requirements for the Career Paper (textbook pgs. 316-317)

• Incorporate time management by breaking the project down into parts with set deadlines:

Step 3: Choosing a Major

• From the DISCOVER program and Career Paper research students should be able to identify an appropriate major for their career goal

Step 4: Developing an Academic Plan

• Identify educational degree objectives: Associate, Bachelor’s, and Post-Graduate

• Discuss and explain types of degrees, transfer guidelines, curriculum guides, and academic program plans.

• Discuss the categories in the college catalog and explain how the categories may have different titles at other institutions. (i.e. Social Interaction at JCTC may be called Behavioral and Social Science at another college)

• Have students compare 2 institutions’ catalogs to see the different categories.

• Use a mock student’s curriculum guide to develop an academic plan.

• Follow this up with getting each student started on his/her own academic plan.

• Students should know how to access and update their own program plans.

• Use transfer information if applicable when creating student’s academic plan.

Step 5: Completing the Advising and Registration Process• Explain the APP and its usage in on-line registration.• Show students how to use PeopleSoft to look up

classes, on-line register, look up grades, etc.• Show students how to use schedule booklet and on-line

course feature to build a class schedule• Assign students to complete a registration form on the

Schedule Planner. When correct, have them transfer to the 2-part official registration form.

• Send to LRC 213 or 214 for schedule input.
