The standard formats f o r t h e d i sp lay o f NATO and Warsavc Pact ground fo rces d a t a f o r MBFR ( re ference ( a ) ) were approved by t h e Working Group i n September 1972. A t t h a t time, required data on a l l Warsaw Fact coun t r i e s as a t end 1971 was a v a i l a b l e whereas d a t a on NATO coun t r i e s was incomplete. Consequently, t h e Sub-Group on Data Support (SGDS) undertook as a f i r s t s t e p , t o complete t h e fo rma t s f o r t h e d i s p l a y o f Warsaw Pact ground fo rces data .

A s t h e r e w a s s ome disagreement wi th in t h e Sub-Group concerLiing c e r t a i n f igu res shown i n t h i s d r a f t , and s i n c e a l l members o f SGDS agreed wi th dz included i n the l a t e s t pr int-out f o r Warsaw Pact ground fo rces as at mid-1972, t h e Sub-Group decided t o d i scard the end 1971 d i s p l s and r ep lace it with t h e updated vers ion .

T a n k s , m i n their lir,e divisions. Production of T-55 -tanks continues in Czechoslovakia and Poland, and is being introduced into Motor Rifle Divisions.

APCs. -ed LPC BTR-SO. till recently had wheeled APCs o f which but half were amphibious.

The Soviets are estimated to have 12,000 T-62

Tad: divisions normally contain the old Motorized rifle divlsions (MRD),

(i) Fronts and krxies currently contain the 152 mm gun I-i0V and the 130 mm field gun M-46.

(ii) Divisions mainly contain the 122 mm HOW. At least 50:; OZ Soviet divisions are estimated t o have rep!.aced their older equipment with the truck mounted BPï-21 multiple rocket launcher and the 100 nm T-12 Anti-tank gun. SAGGER is now the standard anti-tank guided missile.

Air Defence.
