Definition of Mechatronics

Mechatronics is often defined as a way of thinking or method and not as a technology:

"Mechatronics is the synergistic combination of precision mechanical engineering,

electronic control and systems thinking in the design of products and processes"

(From "Mechatronics, Electronics in products and processes" Bradley, Dawson et. al, Chapman and Hall Verlag, London 1991)

Mechatronics

is much more than a simple combination of 3 technical fields

it is a way of thinking

for which teamwork is essential

Training must therefore address

technical competence

personal competence

team competence

in order to fulfill the demands placed by Mechatronics

Bridge the Gap between Virtual and Reality

• Simulate actual machine operation while guaranteeing safety of students and equipment.

• Troubleshooting mode allows the instructor to introduce faults and track student progress as they “repair” the machines.

Turn your Machining program into a Manufacturing Facility

• Show how modern factories use CNC machines to make parts• Teach automated assembly procedures• Incorporate logistic control and order processing
