Born 10/04/65 in Belfast. I was accepted as a direct entry student at the University of
Ulster where I graduated in 1990 with a BA (Hons) in Design. In the last year of studies
I specialised in information design and illustration. My love of cartooning and animation
has been developed over the years at work and as a hobby.
I was married in 1987 at the age of 22 while still a student. We have two grown up children
Andrew and Joanna. I have worked as a designer / illustrator / cartoonist for printing
companies as well as providing artwork for many church denominations - mostly in the
form of visual aids, posters and leaflet design. This booklet shows examples of past work.

Tough mice with attitude!I was trying to draw mice that would stand and fight rather than run away. I wanted to avoid cute and cuddly. This was the result!
Oranges at church?
Orangefield Presbyterian Church were looking for a way to communicate some information
about their imminent major building scheme. They wanted a character that could be adopted
by the younger members of the congregation. The resulting brother and sister cartoons have
been used for posters, bookmarks and stickers. Short animations have also been made.
Froggypatches
The inspiration for these crazy frogs came from the slogan
‘Forever Relying On God (F.R.O.G.). They have been used on
bookmarks stickers posters and t-shirts.

The big trucks found out that appearances can be deceptive. They
judged Tiny as being useless. But big or small, everyone had their place
working in the team that help produce and deliver Stoneyford concrete.
There were lots of things that Tiny couldn’t do but there was one thing he was just perfect for!

Work seemed like a happy place - everyone was always laughing.
They laughed at AL when he came late to work in the Mighty Midget.
They laughed at AL when he told them he was on a diet.
They laughed at AL when he told them he played the bagpipes.
They laughed at AL when he told them he supported Chelsea football team.
They phoned his wife when they saw him reading a ‘Men in tights’ magazine.
AL converted his three-wheeled Limited Edition Mighty Midget Mark II into an eco-friendly supercar. He then went on to develop the spaghetti gun using his no longer needed hair dryer. Was the world ready for this new hero?He owes his flying skills to his wife Alma. She had put
him on a much needed diet. How was she to know that vegetarian food would not agree with him? The gases that built up inside AL had to come out somehow. While
blasting off his seat one night it occurred to him that with the right amount of wind he could fly.
Super-AL drank fizzy drinks blended with beans, eggs, cabbage, sprouts, broccoli and anything else that made him gurgle. Soon
he could leap from building to building. Then one night in a moment of recklessness our soft
spoken salesman ordered a costume from the ‘Men in tights’ superhero supplies magazine.
Superhero?
First of all let’s get this sorted. In spite of what he may tell you - AL can’t fly!
He is what you might call a ‘wind-powered’ super-hero. (The type of wind that smells and makes a trumpet sound especially after eating).
