Composed in 2010, the work quickly gained international attention. American performances of works by Arnesen include a performance at the White House for Barack Obama, as well as premieres at New York City's Carnegie Hall. RequiemSaturday March 24, 2018 – 7:30 p.m.Burton Avenue United Church37 Burton Avenue, BarrieThe glorious Requiem, by Gabriel Faure is the centerpiece for this beautiful choral program leading up to Holy Week. Faure, who was a church organist and choir master, completed the Requiem Mass in 1888. Immediately deemed a success, Faure made two further revisions, one in 1893 and another in 1900. The musical forces included a solo boy soprano, 20-30 person mixed chorus, organ, timpani, and strings (solo violin), violas, cellos, basses. He said, "Everything I managed to entertain by way of religious illusion I put into my Requiem, which moreover is dominated from beginning to end by a very human feeling of faith in eternal rest.”
Coming HomeSaturday May 26, 2018 – 7:30 p.m.Burton Avenue United Church37 Burton Avenue, BarrieThe stunning works of American composer Stephen Paulus (1949-2014) will be featured in this program on the theme of "home."
