Major Gateways for Transport Networks

There are several different modes of transport that can be used to reach Tweed Heads, which can include flying by aeroplane.

There are a number of different airlines available they include: Jetstar, Virgin Blue, and Tiger, and

They depart from; Sydney, Canberra, Newcastle, Melbourne, Adelaide, Cairns and Townsville to the Gold Coast Airport at Coolangatta, which is a 10 minute drive to Tweed Heads

History in BriefTimber cutters originally moved to the Tweed

Valley in 1844.

After the timber had been cleared, farmers

moved in and bananas, sugar cane and dairy

farming became prominent as well as a fishing

industry developing also.

Festival is a 10 day annual retro nostalgia festival featuring more than 1500 pre-1974 hot rod, classic, and custom cars in driving events and static display.

There will be 100 bands and performers playing Rock and

of family fun.

Major Geographical Features of Tweed Heads

Mt Warning is a volcano which covered a

massive 400 square kilometres and can be

found within the Mt Warning national park.

Given its name by Captain Cook, it was used

as a warning to sailors of the dangerous Point

Danger near Tweed Heads.

Mount Warning was added to the World Heritage list in 1975. Mount Warning at the heart of the park, is the remnant central plug of the Tweed shield volcano.

The 'Tweed Caldera' is one of the largest and best examples of an erosion caldera in the world.

Current Health and Safety Issues when visiting Tweed Heads

Health RisksFor tourists travelling inbound, may need to

receive a Swine Flu injection. It is also recommended that you receive

Hepatitis B & C injections before arriving in Australia.

Weather DisastersThe cyclone season is between early

December and late March, though may not hit there can be severe storm surges due to these cyclones.

Ross River Fever – is common to the area of

Tweed Heads. It is important that you were

lose clothing, also that you do not leave doors

open especially during the evening, you will

also need to regularly check that the fly

screens on your windows are on securely.

Dangerous AnimalsSnakes – there are also poisoness snakes at

and around Tweed Heads, which include both Red Belly Black Snakes and Eastern Brown Snakes.

Spiders – poisoness spiders can also be found in Tweed Heads, the ones to be most cautious of are both the Red Back Spiders and the White Tail Spiders.

When swimming at the beaches at Tweed Heads it is extremely important to swim between the flags, and also be aware of Blue Bottle Jelly Fish.

Also be warned when swimming in the ocean, not to swim with large swarms of Bait Fish because there is a high probability that sharks are hunting them at that time.
