About Services Selection Boards

The Present selection method by Services Selection Board has been in force

since Second World War. Keeping in mind the stress and various situations that

are faced by the troops and their commanders the Psychologists designed few

scientific based psychological test in USA to assess the competent youth

possessing Officer Like Qualities. (OLQs). With experience and regular feed

backs these tests have been updated and streamline from time to time. Beyond

doubt the present methods and techniques have been perfect through years of

application and the elimination of drawbacks.

“The aim of these SSBs is to Select the Right Man for the Right Job”.

Services Selection Boards

Permanent Selection Boards have been established at the following places:

– For Indian Army: Allahabad, Bangalore, Bhopal.

– For IAF : Dehradun, Mysore, Varanasi

– For Navy : Bangalore, Bhopal, Coimbatore

At the SSB Centre, you get

Schedule of Tests

Stage I- Screening Tests This consists of IQ Tests ( verbal,& non Verbal) Picture perception test ( Story writing followed by

Discussion of the story) Note :- Once the Screening Test is over, the result is

declared within 1 or 2 hours of the completion of the test. Those who clear the test are required to stay back for the next 4 days and the remaining persons are dropped back at the Railway station for their return journey.

Thematic Apperception Test (Picture Story Writing- 10/ 12

story including one Blank picture)

Word Association Test ( 60 word, 15 seconds given to write a sentence for each word)

Situation Reaction Test ( 50 Situation 30 minutes)

GTO Test

1. Group Discussion ( Two Topics) 2. Group Planning Exercise 3. Progressive Group Tasks ( Four in number) 4. Group Obstacles Race ( Snake Race) 5. Half Group Tasks 6. Lecturette 7. Individual Obstacles ( 10 in all 3 minutes to complete) 8. Command Task 9. Final Group Task

Interview

• Held during Afternoon/ evening hours on 2nd /3rd/4th day.

• Conducted by President/Dy President of the board

• 45 minutes duration

Conference

• On the final day a Board meeting is held, the candidates are required to

appear before the board . This board consists of all the testing officers of the SSB. ( Defense Officers are seen in the Uniform).

• Here the candidates performance is discussed and final marks awarded.

• Results of the Selection is announced 30 minutes ( approx) after the conference is over.

• A general Check up would help you to know about your health condition.

• If you are applying for Flying branch you should

not be wearing spectacles.
