NORWAY• Norway is a country in
the far north of Europe.
• Some people think that Norway is a town in Sweden... but it`s not!
OIL AND GAS• Norway has large oil and gas resources
in the North Sea.• These resources have made Norway one
of the richest countries in the world.

ON THE WEST COAST are the deep fjords

SOUTHERN NORWAY
The Ice Age resulted in the smooth rocks and many islands in southern Norway
EASTERN NORWAY• Forestry, winter-
sport tourism and agriculture are important industries here.

THE OPERA IN OSLO
• The Opera opened on 12 April 2008 and is the home of both the National ballet and opera
• The building dips into the fjord and is praised for its architecture
DISTRICT OF RÆLINGEN
• Rælingen is a rural district with pop. 16,420
• The capital of Norway, Oslo, is just a short 20 min drive away
• Our nearest city, Lillestrøm, is just five min away
SKIING IN RÆLINGEN• We have lots of
places for both cross-country and downhill skiing in our district
• There’s even a small ski-jump and ski-park at a nearby school.
ØSTMARKA• Østmarka is a forest
area located east of Oslo.
• There are two nature reserves in Østmarka
• The new school year often starts with a hiking trip in Østmarka
NORTHERN ØYEREN• Glomma runs into
Øyeren.• Northern Øyeren is a
large nature reserve in Rælingen and surrounding areas
• The nature reserve is the largest inland delta in Norway and was important for floating timber in the past.
ÅMOTDAMMEN• This lake in the
Østmarka is just a few minutes from school.
• This is a popular area for fishing and outdoor activities, and there are many places for swimming around the lake.
• We have many school activities around the lake
SANDBEKKEN UNGDOMSSKOLE
• Sandbekken is one of the two middle schools in Rælingen. There are 310 pupils aged 13-16 and a staff of 35.
• Our school was built in 1975 and renovated in 2003, the school has a 25m pool and large sports hall, a sand volleyball pitch,a skating ramp and two astro-turf football pitches

working directly with the Comenius project
There is a 10 minute break to change classroom between lessons
Cultural RucksackO The Cultural Rucksack
is a national programme for art and culture provided by professionals in Norwegian schools. Sandbekken receives several times each year.

of Education and Research in Norway.
