Abertay UniversityAbertay University is an internationally
recognised institution dating back to 1888, when it was founded to
offer opportunities of higher education to working people in
Dundee. Today, the University is recognised for its achievements in
teaching, learning and research that directly support the
industries of today and the future.
Dundee is Scotlands fourth largest city. Of Abertay Universitys
5,000 students, across four schools, around two-thirds are from
Scotland but around 70 countries are represented in its student
community.
Abertay University has internationally recognised research
strengths in soil science, energy and the environment, and its
teaching provision is recognised by a range of industry
accreditations for delivering graduates ready for the world of
work. The University is also a UK leader in computer security
education, with undergraduate and postgraduate courses in ethical
hacking.
The Universitys world-leading development of computing and
creative and digital arts degree programmes has resulted in it
being named the first UK Centre of Excellence for Computer Games
Education. The University has Skillset Media Academy status (a
government scheme recognising excellence in HE for industry) and
its Dare to be Digital game design competition is supported by
major computer games companies including Rockstar North and
Sony.

SCHOOLS AND FOCUS
Dundee Business School: programmes include accounting, business,
marketing and law, with postgraduate expertise in oil and gas
management. Dundee Business Schools expertise in the oil and gas
sector is recognised by international employers.
School of Arts, Media and Computer Games: UKs first national
Centre for Excellence in Computer Games Education. Courses include
the innovative Professional Masters in Games Development involving
live team projects.
School of Science, Engineering and Technology: internationally
recognised research strengths in soil science, bio-sciences,
environmental technology, waste and urban water systems, energy and
the environment. Also hosts cyber-security research and ethical
hacking degrees.
School of Social and Health Sciences: internationally recognised
expertise in counselling. The School provides courses in mental
health nursing, psychology and many aspects of sport including
coaching and exercise science. Hosts the only research into High
Intensity Training in Scotland.

RESEARCH STRENGTHS
The Universitys research agenda is broad and includes
world-leading environmental research in soil science, innovative
visualisation of complex datasets, policing research ranging from
witness analysis through to face identity and aspects of money
laundering, plus aspects of regional and national economic analysis
and accountancy relating to the oil and gas industry. Throughout
all of these the University is concerned with applicability,
delivery and effectiveness, but a common thread is
interdisciplinarity between different research areas.
EMPLOYABILITY
Graduates are equipped with the skills and knowledge to enter
the world of work. Skills development is embedded in the curriculum
and ongoing support is provided by the Careers Service. The Careers
Service provides on-going support and the Abertay Job Shop helps
students find part-time employment. Employers report that the
Universitys graduates hit the ground running meaning that their
education has ensured they can quickly add value to the employers
business.
