The function setting is made by 4 rotational switches behind the front plate (see figure above). The switches on the left make the setting for processor 1 (LED run 1) and the switches on the right for processor (LED run 2). The same functions must be set for both processors. On the upper switches (1) the main function is adjusted. On the lower switches (10) the setting of the muting time (Protective operation) or the number of breaks (PSDI operation) is adjusted.

MutingMuting is the temporary, automatic disabling of the protective function of a light curtain. This function is used to transport material though a light curtain without stopping the machine. The differentiation between material and persons is done by muting sensors, which have to create a certain switching together with the light curtain when material passes the light curtain.

The muting cycle is indicated by a muting lamp that is controlled and monitored by the MSR22LM. The maximum muting time can be set in 6 steps between 10s and infinite.

K1, K2(13/14, 23/24)

2-Sensor MutingLight curtain LC1 and the muting sensors must be arranged according to the Setup diagram. Setup must take into account material size, shape and speed.

Schematics 3 and 4 show typical applications for 2 light curtains with 2-sensor muting. For both applications, LC1 is the only light curtain muted. LC2 functions in guard only mode in both schematics. For both applications, the Start/Restart button must be pressed and released to energize K1 and K2 after power is applied. If LC2 is not needed, then links, e-stops, or interlocks are needed on terminals S21/S22 and S23/S24 (see Unused Inputs on page 4). A key-operated switch can be used to operate the conveyor and clear the light curtain in the event of a lockout while material is interrupting LC1.

Schematic 3 shows the setup for automatic restart of LC1. If LC1 is interrupted during a non-muting sequence, the MSR22LM de-energizes K1 and K2. When LC1 is cleared, K1 and K2 are automatically energized (if LC2 is also clear). Interrupting LC2 de-energizes K1 and K2. After clearing LC2, the Start/Restart button must be pressed and released to energize K1 and K2.

Schematic 4 shows the setup for manual start/restart. If LC1 or LC2 are interrupted and then cleared, the Start/Restart must be pressed and released to energize K1 and K2.

Setup

ATTENTION: The muting sensors must be arranged so a person cannot activate the muting sensors in the same switching sequence as the material and enter the area when the hazardous condition exists. To help accomplish this, the user can select either 2-sensor or 4-sensor muting. Additional guarding may also be necessary.

In the timing diagram, "monitored operation" is the phase where the MSR22LM differentiates between persons and material.

1. After powerup, the Start/Restart lamp turns on. Press and release the Start/Restart button. Upon release, K1 and K2 energize if both light curtains and the muting sensors are clear.2. The muting sequence starts by blocking sensor 1, then sensor 2. After sensor 2 is blocked, the muting lamp turns on.3. LC1 is muted and the material must break LC1 within 3.05s.4. As the material passes LC1, it must clear sensor 2 and then sensor 1.

If the muting cycle is not completed in the proper sequence or within the set time limits, the MSR22LM will go in to a lockout state with K1 and K2 de-energized and the amber RUN LED's flashing. See the Diagnostics section on page 3 for troubleshooting hints.

2-sensor muting allows the material to move through LC1 in both the forward and reverse directions.

To enable the machine at start-up on PSDI operation, one of the following two different start sequences can be chosen.1. Press and release the Start/Restart button and then break LC1 the required number of times, or2. Break LC1 the required number of times and then press and release the Start/Restart button.

PSDI operation enables automatic restart of a machine after a certain number of accesses into the protected area through a light curtain. This operation requires a two step process: 1) a start sequence followed by 2) a normal sequence.

Schematics 7 and 8 show typical applications for PSDI operation. In both applications, only LC1 performs the PSDI operation; light curtains LC2 and LC3 operate in Guard Only mode. If either LC2 or LC3 are broken, K1 and K2 will turn off. After the light curtain(s) is cleared, the Start/Restart button must be pressed and released to turn K1 and K2 back on. The MSR22LM returns to the normal sequence.

Schematic 8 shows a typical application with a 3-way maintanined key switch, which can be used to set and change the number of breaks without cycling power. The switch must only be turned when K1 and K2 are de-energized. A new number of breaks is signaled by the PSDI lamp being on. Press the Start/Restart button to restart the unit

Normal sequenceA correct starting sequence is necessary to run the normal operating sequence. In the normal operating sequence the machine movement is signaled to the MSR22LM by opening and closing of the machine contact. The output contacts of the MSR22LM are opened when the machine contact opens. After that the operator must interrupt the LC for the required number of times to restart the machine operation. All necessary breaks must be completed within 30s. The request to access the machine is signaled by a flashing lamp (terminal 48). When the required number of interruptions on the LC is completed the lamp goes off and the contacts K1 and K2 close.

A normally closed machine contact must be connected to the terminals S41 and S42 of the MSR22LM. The opening and closing of this contact depends on the machine setup and must be either short or long duration. Internal selector Switch 1 must be set to correspond to the cycle duration (see Internal Switch Settings on page 10).

In this mode, interruptions of LC1 must only be done when the machine contact has been opened and closed again. An exception is when an interruption is started while the contact is open and still is going on while the contact closes (the hashed area in the timing diagram below).

In this mode, interruptions are accepted while the machine contact is open. The machine is only enabled when the interruptions are completed and the machine cycle contact is closed again.

Double break example

Schematic 8 shows a typical application where the number of breaks is changed by a key-operated switch. To enable the change, K1 and K2 must be de-energized. This can be accomplished by breaking one of the light curtain inputs, which maintains the machine cycle contact in the closed position. After changing the key switch setting, the start sequence must be performed followed by the normal sequence. The timing diagram shows an example of a change to single break for Break Before Start and Short Duration Cycle Contact setting.
