Our membership has grown from 704 in August 2012 to 840 members as of February 2013 – Worldwide membership is 8833! The Houston Gulf Coast section is the next largest at 513 members. It is astonishing to read that Calgary comprises nearly 10% of AACE. The Chinook-Calgary Section AGM will be held on May 15. I’m pleased to announce that the current 2012/13 AACE International President Marlene Hyde CCE, EVP will join us for our AGM in Calgary. If you are interested in being a part of the team, presenting a topic, or just helping, this is the time! Please feel to contact any member of the board – We need your help. In other news, AACE International has announced the release of its Certified Estimating Professional (CEP) Certification Study Guide to the total cost management community, available online. Our February 20 dinner meeting had record turn-out to hear Finlay McLay, Regional Director - Rider Hunt International, present “Application of unit rate contracting in oil sands”. Thank you for your presentation. March 21 will be the Joint AACE-PMI Meeting where Sohail Thacker will present “The Magic of Organizational Change Management” at the Metropolitan Hotel in Calgary. PMI-SAC will also be holding a EPC-Roundtable Discussion “Special Workshop on Best Practices for Integrated Scheduling of Major Projects” on May 23, 2013. Register online at the PMI-SAC Website. The AACE International Regional Directors and headquarters staff have created an online survey in order to help Local Sections with planning for the upcoming year. The survey addresses demographics, topics of interest, as well as your interest in teaching or participating in the programs. Hello AACEI Chinook-Calgary,

WHAT is AACEI Chinook-Calgary? The Chinook–Calgary Section of AACE Canada was founded in 1972. It currently has close to 820 members from a wide range of companies in and outside of Alberta. Our members are involved in all aspects of estimating, cost control, planning, contract management,, scheduling and project management. Members receive the Cost Engineering Magazine, a discount on books and publications from AACEI Headquarters and access to contents on the AACEI website. This local newsletter is also issued regularly and members are encouraged to submit articles or notices for publication.

Calgary has Change Management Fever! There is a big demand for experienced Change Managers…what suddenly changed? Businesses have gained a better understanding of project management and they have also learned that PMs are not magic – projects continue to fail…. SECTION ACTIVITY February’s Dinner Meeting presentation focused on unit rate contracting and the industry leading RHiComs application. Best practices and the application of unit rate contracting on Oil Sands Projects will be discussed. The presenter, Finlay McLay, has 23 years experience in the oil and gas industry and during this time has worked in various locations, including the UK, Malaysia, Venezuela, the US and Canada. A Chartered Quantity Surveyor by profession, his experience extends to the areas of estimating, cost control, contracts and quantity surveying and he is also an expert in RHi systems, including the RHiComs™ unit rate contracting system, having been responsible for its implementation on a large number of projects. He has worked on a variety of project types, from deepwater offshore projects in the Gulf of Mexico through to heavy oil projects in Venezuela and Canada.
