Match Report A terrific win by the boys against a quality opponent in St Kilda City The game was set up in the first quarter with the midfield dominating and the forwards finishing off by kicking truly

A special thank you to Jake Wrobel and Maor Chrapot for filling in from the Under 9s and playing really well We asked for a special effort today with no interchange and thats exactly what we got

The midfield with Zac Indy and Hutch lead by Juzzy Vogel ran all day and the back line repelled attack after attack The two Joshs across half back with Brodie started many attacks Jonah and Ark were resolute as always in defence and Brett Ayjay and Logan utilised their speed in the wide open spaces to great effect

The Stars took to the field missing the likes of Arndt Boymal Lang Manchlin and MRosenberg The first quarter was an even contest the highlights being some strong defensive work by N Michamacher and snap goal by Berman

Results of the AFL Victoria Metropolitan Junior Championship U14 Division 2 Grand Final

U14 Division 2

On Saturday (296) the U14 Division 2 team featuring Jeremy Bassat amp Jake Liberman ventured out to Shepley Oval in Dandenong to play the Eastern Football League (EFL) team in their grand final

Both teams went through the previous 3 matches undefeated so this match was to determine who would be crowned the U14 Division 2 champions The 1st quarter saw both teams match it against each other and at the end of the quarter the EFL team lead by 3 points

The 2nd

quarter saw the EFL assert their dominance on the match and kicked 4 majors to the SMJFLrsquos 2 and extended their lead to 17 points

The 3rd quarter saw the SMJFL team come out firing and taking the game up to the opposition and kicked 2 goals during the quarter to the EFLrsquos 1 goal They reduced the margin to 13 points with the last quarter to follow

The EFL team upped the ante in the last quarter scoring 2 goals 5 points to the SMJFLrsquos 1 goal 2 points and at the final siren won the match by 22 points

weeks the Jackas lost another close one Trailing early AJAX took it right up to ladder leaders Old Trinity and in a brilliant display prior to half time took control and lead at the main break by 9 points Again for the 2

nd week in a row

the Jackas struggled in the third term until a late surge netted 2 goals A dour struggle continued in the final quarter with AJAX holding a slender lead with moments to go The home team took the lead with minutes to go and with the last kick of the day extended the margin Richie Simon played his best game for the club marking everything Jason Ritterman used the wide open spaces to his advantage and Michael Shafar led a group of dour defenders AJAX travelled to the beautiful Trinity school grounds to tackle the top side(OT) in perfect conditions on an excellent fully grassed oval Having lost by 4 points in Round 4 against last years A grade team AJAX was desperate to turn the tables After 5 minutes of intense footy Eugene Routman ran an opponent down from behind for a free kick play on pass to Jake Lew who in turn passed to David Fayman and AJAX had its first goal After a long series of hand balls by AJAX and finally an error OT got the turnover and moved the ball with long kicks and goal Ezra Poyas got a mark and had long kick for a point but immediately left ground with strained calf AJAX through Corey Jankie Josh Ludski and Jason Tendler got the ball forward and Fayman kicked off the ground for a goal AJAX was desperate and tackling hard but their skill errors with delivery causing lots of frustration Another long kick forward and OT took mark in goal square to goal Jason Ritterman was excellent off half back and Michael Shafar and Ben Kalmus were repelling the ball but AJAX were not getting the footy forward quickly enough Richie Simon was moving well up field and was spending some time in ruck and marked strongly around the ground At the first break the home team led by 7 points Coach Leigh McQuillen told the players to lower their eyes and move ball with greater care Jarrod White was great in the ruck giving AJAX great drive but AJAX was having difficulty getting the ball forward OTs skills and strength were putting enormous pressure on the AJAX players all over the ground Luke Peters was keeping a tight watch on his opponent and was winning that battle but OT still scored however AJAX would not give up Josh Ludski to Lew to Sam Chester to Fayman for a goal was great team lifting but OT replied immediately Chester ran into open goal and AJAX had hit the front Ritterman again off the half back found White to goal OT scored another but AJAX was taking the game right up to the top side Josh Ludski then broke 2 tackles for goal and then Brad Caplan broke through a pack kicked forward for Fayman to goal from a free kick and goal AJAX was playing great football and lead at the main break by 9 pointsThe coach wanted the players to maintain their intensity and desperation but had

to reduce their skill errors OT started the 3rd quarter with great speed and an increased desire not to lose They kicked the first 4 goals and it looked like AJAX would crumble OT looked faster stronger and fitter Jarryd Ludski and Rubin Winograd were getting the ball out of the defence but their taller opponents were beginning to get on top Matt Nissen to Lew was tackled after disposal free kick down ground to Tendler and then again for Josh Ludski resulted in 2 late goals for AJAX who now trailed at the last change by 9 points McQuillen told the boys it was game on The last 2 goals had given AJAX the momentum He asked the players to dig deep Jake Lew goaled on the resumption and AJAX were 3 points down Chester ran down an opponent free kick for Simon to take great contested mark in goal square and AJAX had hit the front Jarryd Ludski was fantastic bringing down two taller opponents and creating a turnover AJAX was running forward but a terrible pass was intercepted by OT for them to move forward quickly and take the lead again OT was not about to lie down Ari Lewski then ran through centre to steal a hit out his long kick to Caplan for a great left foot goal AJAX was within 3 points with 4 minutes left Both sides were desperate but a long kick forward by OT for a mark and goal with the last kick of the day left AJAX losing by 9 points AJAX were great and showed wonderful character desperation and intensity but against the top side (taller and stronger) AJAX just fell short Great game of football and the AJAX supporters who travelled to Bulleen would have been very proud of their community team In the earlier match Jason Seidl was a standout ndash his return kicking 4 goals was instrumental in getting the reserves across the line Under 19rsquos

The U19rsquos came out strongly in the first quarter against Old Xavs with intensity and determination The result was a walloping 9 goal burst of tackling mid-field dominance and accurate kicking to lead by 50 pts at the first break The second quarter challenge from the coaches to keep up the momentum was matched in spite of a burst of 2 goals from the opposition The backline rebounded relentlessly and the entire team lifted to maintain their dominance The 3rs quarter saw Old Xavs put a fight and bring the game to the Jackas but it was far too little and far too late with the Jackas running out clear 96 point victors Kudos to captain ldquoBeejrdquo who put on another 5 goals and to Dylan Dexter in his first game for the team with a goal with his first kick It was also great to see the return of the Sandy Dragonsrsquo boys Nikko and Mikey who brought their ldquoArdquo game
