Abstract
This study aimed to investigate the beneficial effects of longan syrup on the sleep quality, blood pressures, blood glucose levels and lipid profile in 37 healthy volunteers. The test was done before and after taking longan syrup once a day for 3 months. Sleep quality using Pittsburgh Sleep quality Index (PSQI), systolic and diastolic blood pressure and blood sample were measured at the baseline and at week 2, 6 and 12 after longan syrup first intake. Results showed that 3 month longan syrup consumption improved sleep quality in volunteers and there is no impact on the increase of blood sugar. Moreover, there was significantly decreased in diastolic blood pressure. In addition, there was no effect on lipid profile (total cholesterol and triglyceride), liver function and renal function. In conclusion, this study has showed that daily consumption of longan syrup can improve the sleep quality and reduce the diastolic blood pressures. Therefore, longan syrup may be useful for an alternative or complementary therapy. However, future works of long term period consumption and testing in patient should be further studied. .
