At three years old, C. longisetus was found to produce the highest average cane length at 1.51 m while C. latifolius, C. peregrinu, C. rudentum, C. palustris and C. viminalis had average cane length at 1.45, 1.28, 1.25, 1.09 and 0.52 m respectively. However, at 4 and 5 years old, C. palustris turned to produce highest relative growth rate. At 4 years old, C. palustris had average cane length at 3.8 m while C. peregrinus, C. rudentum, C. longisetus, C. latifolius and C. viminalis had average cane length at 2.54, 2.48, 2.15, 1.99 and 1.7 m, respectively. At 5 years old, C. palustris , C. rudentum, C. peregrinus , C. longisetus , C. viminalis and C. latifolius had average cane length at 4.35, 3.93, 2.99, 2.99 and 2.8 m respectively. It was noticed that only C. palustris , which is the small-cane rattan, could produce multiple shoots within 3 year. At 4 and 5 years old, C. palustris had averaged highest relative growth rate at 0.96 m/m/y while C. viminalis, C. rudentum, C. peregrinus, C. longisetus and C. latifolius had relative growth rate at 0.89, 0.63, 0.57, 0.33 and 0.33 m/m/y, respectively. Four- and five- year-old C. palustris also had averaged highest mean annual increment at 3.16 m/y while C. rudentum, C. peregrinus, C. viminalis, C. longisetus and C. latifolius had averaged mean annual increment at 1.56, 1.32, 1.24, 0.74 and 0.68 m/y, respectively. ABSTRACT
Growth of 6 rattan species, Calamus longisetus (Wai Kumpuan), C. latifolius (Wai Pong), C. peregrinus (Wai Nguay), C. rudentum (Wai Keesien), C. palustris (Wai Kring) and C. viminalis (Wai Sanim), planted under rubber plantation had been studied at Songkhla Silvicultural Research Station, Rattaphum district, Songkhla province.
However, at 4 and 5years old, C. palustris turned to produce highest relative growth rate. At 4 years old, C. palustris had average cane length at 3.8 m while C. peregrinus, C. rudentum, C. longisetus, C. latifolius and C. viminalis had average cane length at 2.54, 2.48, 2.15, 1.99 and 1.7 m, respectively. At 5 years old, C. palustris, C. rudentum, C. peregrinus, C. longisetus, C. viminalis andC. latifolius had average cane length at 4.35, 3.93, 2.99, 2.99 and 2.8 m respectively. It was noticed that only C. palustris, which is the small-cane rattan, could produce multiple shoots within 3 year.
Four- and five-year-old C. palustris also had averaged highest mean annual increment at 3.16 m/y while C. rudentum, C. peregrinus, C. viminalis, C. longisetus and C. latifolius had averaged mean annual increment at 1.56, 1.32, 1.24, 0.74 and 0.68 m/y, respectively.
