CLIENT INPUT FLEX

IN THE MIDST OF A HOUSING CRISIS WHERE CONSTRUCTION COSTS ARE AT A PREMIUM, THIS NEW WORK FLOW AND BUILDING METHODOLOGY WILL HELP MINIMIZE COSTS AND UTILIZE CLIENTS AS THE POTENTIAL BUILDERS AND DESIGNERS.

LOMA WALK ALLOWS PEOPLE TO RECONNECT WITH THEIR NEIGHBORS, A SIMPLE ELEMENT OF OUR COMMUNITIES THAT HAS LOST IMPORTANCE WITH THE CONSTRUCTION OF FENCES, SUBURBAN PLANS AND HOUSING FACADES CONSISTING OF ONLY GARAGE DOORS. THE PRIMARILY PUBLIC FUNCTIONS OF THE HOUSE OPEN UP TO THE WALKWAY ALLOWING THE RESIDENTS THE POTENTIAL FOR SPONTANEOUS INTERACTIONS.

THE HOUSE BECOMES A KIT OF PARTS AND INTRODUCES THE FACIT SYSTEM IN WHICH ALL PRIMARY BUILDING PIECES ARE CUT FROM A CNC MACHINE. AS THE DESIGNS OF THE HOUSES VARY FROM CUSTOMER TO CUSTOMER, A SET PROGRAM WILL AUTOMATICALLY UPDATE THE CUT FILES ELIMINATING WASTED THE CUT FILES ELIMINATING WASTED MATERIAL AND DESIGN TIME.

THE GOAL OF FLEXITTOWN IS NOT TO REINVENT THE HOUSE BUT RATHER ADAPT IT TO THE CURRENT TIMES AND NEEDS OF THE PEOPLE. REVERTING BACK TO THE SUCCESSES OF LEVITTOWN, THIS PROJECT BUILDS ON THE IDEA OF THE ASSEMBLY LINE WHILE INCLUDING NEW TECHNOLOGIES AND DIGITAL INTERFACES. CONSTRUCTION PIECES CENTER AROUND THE SCALE OF A HUMAN BODY WHICH ELIMINATES THE NEED FOR HEAVY MACHINERY.

MODERN PRIMITIVES IS AN ON-GOING DESIGN BUILD PROJECT THAT HAS MANIFESTED ITSELF IN VARIOUS FORMS OF ART VARYING FROM ARCHITECTURAL SHADE STRUCTURES TO HIGH END FURNITURE PIECES. THESE PIECES HAVE BEEN EXHIBITED ALL AROUND THE WORLD INCLUDING THE 2010 ARCHITECTURE BIENNALE IN VENICE,ITALY.

THE ARTFORM OF DANCE IN THIS DETERIOATING AREA OF SAN FRANCISCO CAN BECOME A CATALYST FOR GROWTH WHERE SELF EXPRESSION CAN BE HARNESSED RATHER THAN SHUNNED. THE BUILDING ATTEMPTS TO FALL BACK AND DISSOLVE INTO THE CITYSCAPE ALLOWING THE MULTIPLE PERSONALITIES OF PEOPLE TO BE PUT ON DISPLAY IN A SAFE AND EXPRESSIVE ENVIRONMENT.

THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE BUILDING IS NOT A SINGULAR PROCESS BUT RATHER RELIES ON A SEQUENTIAL NUMBER OF EVENTS AND PROCESSES THAT ARE CENTERED AROUND THE EXISTING COMMUNITY.

AT THE 2010 VENICE BIENNALE, MODERN PRIMITIVES BECAME A PLACE FOR CONVERSATION. EVERY PIECE BUILT FIT INTO ONE MASTER CLUSTER, AND WHEN THEY WERE PULLED APART EACH PIECE REVEALED ITS OWN IDENTITY. THE PIECES AND THE SPACES THEY CREATED BECAME AREAS FOR CONVERSATION. AS THE FORMS ALIGNED WITH VARIOUS CONFIGURATIONS, SO DID THE INTERACTION.

THE DINOSAUR MUSEUM, LEARNING CENTER AND SOCIAL HOUSING PROJECTS SHOWN BELOW WORK TOGETHER AS A SYSTEM OF RIBBONS THAT CONNECT THE SURROUNDING CONTEXT. EACH SPECIFIC PROGRAM HAS ITS OWN PURPOSE BUT RELIES ON THE FUNCTIONS OF THE OTHER PROGRAMS TO SUPPORT IT.

THE SITE MUSEUM CO-OP ADDRESSES THE CONDITIONS OF THE SITE AS WELL AS THE PEOPLE THAT CURRENTLY RESIDE THERE. THIS CO-OP NOT ONLY PROVIDES THEM WITH SUSTAINABLE WORK BUT ALSO GIVES THEM A SENSE OF OWNERSHIP IN THE MATERIALS AND STRUCTURES THEY PRODUCE. PRIDE AND OWNERSHIP BECOMES THE STRONGEST BOND THE PEOPLE SHARE AS THEY GROW THEIR COMMUNITY.

LOMA WALK CONSISTS OF ELEVEN SINGLE-FAMILY ATTACHED UNITS THAT EVOLVED FROM A STUDY OF DEMOGRAPHICS AND FUTURE GROWTH PATTERNS OF POINT LOMA, CA. THIS DIAGRAM RESULTED IN AN INCREASE OF DENSITY [X5.5]. THE FINALIZED PLAN ROTATED ON AXIS TO ALIGN WITH THE VIEWS OF THE OCEAN AND GENERATED THE INTERIOR LIVING COMMUNITY ALONG ITS MAIN CORE [THE WALK].

IN A PARTNERSHIP WITH FENDI, MODERN PRIMITIVES EVOLVED INTO NOT ONLY INTERACTIVE FURNITURE PIECES BUT ALSO FABRIC MOSIACS AND A CUSTOM HANDBAG. THIS EXHIBITION BECOME A DISPLAY FOR INTERACTION AND DISCOVERY FOR THE VISITOR INCORPORATING BOTH PHYSICAL AND DIGITAL INTERFACES.

THE MODEST DESIGN BEHIND THE BUILDING ALLOWS FOR CHEAP CONSTRUCTION THROUGH INEXPENSIVE BUILDING MATERIALS AND REPETITION. THE BUILDING FOCUSES ON CREATING A SPRUNG FLOOR SYSTEM THAT IS BENEFICIAL FOR THE DANCER WHILE ALSO GENERATING LARGE UNOBSTRUCTED AREAS. THESE AREAS ARE THEN PUT ON DISPLAY BOTH INTERNALLY AND EXTERNALLY SO PEOPLE CAN ENJOY AND PERCEIVE THE BEAUTY OF DANCE AND ART.CAN ENJOY AND PERCEIVE THE BEAUTY OF DANCE AND ART.

THE BUILDING DEVELOPMENT DIAGRAM BEGINS WITH THE REPETITION OF THE DANCE FLOOR AND MANIPULATING IT TO HOUSE THE INTERNAL PROGRAMS AND CIRCULATIONS FOR THE SCHOOL OF DANCE.

THE DINOSAUR MUSEUM IS USED TO CREATE A CONNECTION POINT BETWEEN THE INFORMAL AND FORMAL DEVELOPMENTS FOUND ON THE SITE. THE BUILDING ITSELF IS ALL ABOUT DISCOVERING DATA OR INFORMATION [DINO BONES] IN THE EXACT AREA WHERE IT WAS UNEARTHED. THIS BUILDING CONNECTS ONE SPATIALLY TO THE INFORMATION ONE IS EXPLORING

THE BUILDING WILL OPERATE AS GENERATOR FOR TANGIBLE KNOWLEDGE AND WILL AIM TOWARDS PRESERVING THE HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE OF THE SITE AND EMBODY LOCALS THROUGH THE ADDITION OF A BRICK PRODUCING CO-OP.
