The Friends of the Library are again sponsor- ing Friends Night at the Library. Friends Night is scheduled for Tuesday, May 18 at 7 PM in the library meeting room. The Friends have a very special event planned. The Friends will be having a public forum for the local city may- oral candidates. Four of the candidates have confirmed that they will be in atten- dance. One candi- date will be unable to attend. There is one candidate unsure at this time. The candi- dates for City Mayor are: John Ashworth, Anne Banks, Mike Dew, Larry Fitts, Jo Matherne, and James Peace. The Friends are looking forward to having the candidates with us this evening. The moderator for the evening will be Judge Lyle Reid. Please join us for this important community event. All are invited to attend. Light refreshments will be served. The Friends of the Library are a great supporter of the Elma Ross Public Library. The library would not be able to offer the materials and pro- grams that we do if it weren’t for the Friends assistance. Donations made to the Friends of the Library are tax- deductible. Please consider becoming a member of the Friends of the Library. The Friends are also look- ing for volunteers to assist with the Friends organization. Haywood County 4-H members competed in the 2010 4-H Sub-Regional Project Showcase in Selmer, TN. Holt Kendrick, Josh Williams, and Jesse Williams prepared demonstrations and gave presentations at the annual 4-H contest; they competed against youth from 7 West Tennessee counties. Holt Kendrick’s demonstration on robotics placed 1st in his division, Josh Williams’s presentation on chicken incubators, and Jesse Williams’s presentation on goat milking both placed 2nd in their respective divisions. All three young men are members of the Haywood County 4-H Honor Club. For more information on 4-H and 4-H Honor Club contact Tiffany Thomas or Walter Dirl (731)772-2861. The United States Achievement Academy announced today that Brent Ward from Brownsville has been named an All-American Scholar. The USAA has estab- lished the All-American Scholar Award Program to offer deserved recogni- tion to superior students who excel in the academ- ic disciplines. The All- American Scholars must earn a 3.3 or higher grade point average. Only schol- ars selected by a school instructor, counselor, or other qualified sponsor are accepted. Brent Ward, who attends Haywood Junior High School, was nomi- nated for this honor by Mr. Ray Clark. Brent Ward will appear in the All-American Scholar Yearbook, which is pub- lished nationally. “Recognizing and supporting our youth is more important than ever before in America’s history. Certainly, stu- dents recognized as All- American Scholars should be congratulated and appreciated for their dedi- cation to excellence and achievement,” said Dr. George Stevens, Founder of the United States Achievement Academy. The Academy selects All-American Scholars upon the exclusive recom- mendations of teachers, coaches, counselors, and other qualified sponsors. Brent Ward is the son of Scott and Janet Ward from Brownsville. His grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Pratt of Brownsville and Mr. and Mrs. Paul Ward of Alamo. The Friends of the Library need you!! The Friends of the Library are again sponsor-ing Friends Night at the Library. Friends Night is scheduled for Tuesday, May 18 at 7 PM in the library meeting room. The Friends have a very special event planned. The Friends will be having a public forum for the local city may-oral candidates. Four of the candidates have confirmed that they will be in atten-dance. One candi-date will be unable to attend. Haywood County 4-H members competed in the 2010 4-H Sub-Regional Project Showcase in Selmer, TN. Holt Kendrick, Josh Williams, and Jesse Williams prepared demonstrations and gave presentations at the annual 4-H contest; they competed against youth from 7 West Tennessee counties. Holt Kendrick’s demonstration on robotics placed 1st in his division, Josh Williams’s presentation on chicken incubators, and Jesse Williams’s presentation on goat milking both placed 2nd in their respective divisions.
