UK/UAE 2017UK/UAE 2017 is a year of creative collaboration and cultural exchange between
the United Kingdom and the United Arab Emirates, organised by the British Council
under the patronage of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince
of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, and HRH
The Prince of Wales.
Between the start of the season and June 2017 the UAE public has seen 26 projects,
including 140 events in 6 Emirates and 90 film screenings, which have taken place
in the UAE as part of UK/UAE 2017. Over three thousand people have participated in
talks, workshops or events. A further 85,000 people have
attended exhibitions, performances, film screenings or festivals.
Continuing on from the success of the Spring Season, the Autumn Season will be
filled with a rich cultural programme that spans the arts, literature, education, society,
sport, science and trade, celebrating the long-standing relationship between the
UK and the UAE. The programme will bring to the UAE some of the UK’s best talents
across a broad range of cultural sectors.
With community, inclusion and the next generation at the heart of the programme,
the UK/UAE 2017 year continues to bring people together, to inspire and to engage
people across the UAE with artworks and performances.
We will explore the role culture plays in shaping the societies of tomorrow.
Through an innovative programme of high quality projects, we will stimulate and
inspire the next generation and look towards future collaboration between the
UK and the UAE.

CULTURAL EXCELLENCE FELLOWSHIP II SEPTEMBER 2017 - MAY 2018
The second edition of the Cultural Excellence Fellowship in partnership with Abu Dhabi Music & Arts Foundation (ADMAF) continues with a fresh round of mentorships and a new workshops series to develop the business and management skills of 26 emerging and established professionals from the UAE’s creative and cultural industries. Having started in January 2017, the programme, which seeks to create a capacity-building framework for a new generation of entrepreneurial Emiratis, will engage in sessions exploring the creative economy,festival management, business planning, branding, and digital design.

MUSIC IN THE STUDIO SEPTEMBER - DECEMBER 2017
Music lovers, musicians, students and culture vultures are invited to enjoy a new series of intimate concerts. These will be performed by some of the world’s finest artists at Music in the Studio, a brand new concert series presented by Dubai Opera and curated by concert pianist, Amira Fouad. The programme will include an educational outreach element composed of master classes, workshops, talks and lectures reaching out to the youth from various schools across the UAE. This year, as part of the UK/UAE 2017 Year of Creative Collaboration, the star-studded series will include performances, master classes, talks and workshops featuring leading British musicians Guy Johnston, Rhian Lois and Tasmin Little as well
as renowned international artists, Amira Fouad, Alexander Ghindin and Piers Lane.

MUSICIAN IN RESIDENCEWITH SARATHY KORWARMAY - DECEMBER 2017
The British Council and PRS Foundation have appointed UK based jazz percussionist and composer Sarathy Korwar to undertake a creative residencyin the UAE. In collaboration with The Fridge and New York University Abu Dhabi, the musician in residence will have access to UAE audiences giving him opportunities to collaborate with local artists, create new music and give live performances. Working with influential local and regional artists will establish important contacts and give valuable insights into local society and culture. The residency will take place from May to December. Korwar will explore and write
new music whilst visiting the UAE in 2017.
QUEEN BETWEEN BY SUSHEELA RAMAN & RIZWAN-MUAZZAM QAWWALI19 OCTOBER 2017
As part of the UK/UAE 2017 Year of Creative Collaboration, the British Council and The Arts Center at New York University, Abu Dhabi will present a magical musical meeting of Raman’s enigmatic songs with ecstatic Sufi qawwali, a string quartet, orchestral percussion, and hypnotic grooves. Queen Between takes an enigmatic look at imagination as expressed in language, poetry and music. The songs explore the elusive nature of reality or spiritual truth, and the universality of liminal states, ritual, and magical thinking. The cross-cultural, cross-genre musical exchange reflects themes of cultural exchange, migration, and transformation. In the commissioned evening-length concert Queen Between, Susheela Raman and Sam Mills expand their collaboration with Rizwan Muazzam Qawwali, along with the Phaedra Ensemble string quartet and a western rhythm section.

SCIENCE COLLABORATION SYMPOSIUM: CLEAN & RENEWABLE ENERGY 30 OCTOBER - 1 NOVEMBER 2017
The UK’s Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, the UK Science & Innovation Network, and the British Council present a Science Collaboration Symposium on the theme of Clean and Renewable Energy in the Gulf Countries. The symposium will give scientists from research institutions and start-up companies/industries from Gulf countries and the UK an opportunity to discuss and explore collaboration around a crucial theme for future Gulf prosperity. The symposium, in collaboration with the UK’s GREAT campaign, will be delivered as part of the UK’s Gulf Science Innovation Knowledge Economy programme, which supports collaboration between the UK and Gulf science communities.

A programme of literary events highlighting contemporary British writing will be organised by the British Council, featuring leading authors including novelist Neel Mukherjee and historian Peter Frankopan (see pages 13-14 for details). The University of Birmingham, in partnership with the British Council, and with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Knowledge Development as strategic partner, will present a digital exhibition of the Birmingham Qur’an manuscript (see page 9 for further details); In support of the exhibition of the Birmingham Qur’an, the University of Birmingham, the British Council and The London Book Fair will present a discussion about the history and science of the Birmingham Qur’an amongst leading academics.

UK GUEST OF HONOUR PROGRAMME AT THE SHARJAH INTERNATIONAL BOOK FAIR (SIBF) 2017
The UK is the designated Guest of Honour for the Sharjah International Book Fair (SIBF) 2017, as part of the UK/UAE 2017 Year of Creative Collaboration between the United Kingdom and the United Arab Emirates. SIBF is the largest book fair in the Arab Region and one of the three largest in the world. As Guest of Honour, the UK will showcase excellence in contemporary British publishing, brands and writing as well as the Birmingham Qur’an manuscript, which is considered a global treasure and is currently held at the University of Birmingham’s Cadbury Research Library. The Department for International Trade (DIT) London Region, ERDF’s Global Growth Project and the UK Publishers Association are organizing a stand at the heart of the Book Fair. For two dedicated trade days UK publishers attending SIBF will be able to meet new business partners from the entire Arab region and find new export and translation rights trading opportunities.
DIGITAL EXHIBITION OF THEBIRMINGHAM QUR’AN MANUSCRIPTNOVEMBER 2017 - EARLY 2018
The University of Birmingham in partnership with the British Council and with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Knowledge Development as strategic partner, will organise a digital exhibition opening in November featuring the Birmingham Qur’an manuscript; a piece consisting of two parchment leaves of the Qur’an that have been radiocarbon dated to the early seventh century, making them one of the earliest examples of the Islamic holy book in existence. This Qur’an manuscript is considered a global treasure and is currently held at the University of Birmingham’s Cadbury Research Library. The exhibition, which will tour the UAE to Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and Dubai, will be combined with an education programme which will include talks, workshops and tours to engage students and the general public across the nation.

BOOK, BRAND, BRITAIN EXHIBITION 3 - 11 NOVEMBER 2017
As part of the UK Guest of Honour programme at the Sharjah International Book Fair, The London Book Fair will showcase the best of British brands and bring Britain to the UAE this November. Visitors will discover an exhibit and content programme that explores the enduring value and flexibility of British brands from the Monarchy to Matilda and other Roald Dahl properties, from Blyton to Bond through to Shakespeare in all formats as well as cross media case studies such as Michael Rosen’s and Helen Oxenbury’s story, We’re going on a Bear Hunt.
A Royal theme will add sparkle to the exhibit with Claudia Joseph’s iconic Book showing participants – ‘How to Dress Like a Princess’.

NEEL MUKHERJEE IN CONVERSATION WITH SARFRAZ MANZOOR: 3 NOVEMBER 2017
Neel Mukherjee is the internationally-acclaimed author of A Life Apart and A State
of Freedom, and the Man Booker-shortlisted The Lives of Others. His novels are distinguished by their formal inventiveness, examining the migrant experience of Indians through the correlation of multiple stories placed side-by-side. In conversation with writer and broadcaster Sarfraz Manzoor, Mukherjee will discuss his approach to storytelling, why he chooses to write against the ‘family saga’ trope of the immigrant novel, and the moral imperative to imagine the lives of others. Neel Mukherjee’s participation in the Sharjah International Book Fair authors’ programme has been made possible by the British Council and forms part of the UK/UAE 2017 Year of Creative Collaboration and the UK Guest of Honour Programme at the Sharjah International Book Fair.

PETER FRANKOPAN: THE HISTORY OF CULTURAL EXCHANGE6 NOVEMBER 2017
Peter Frankopan is Professor of Global History at Oxford University, specializing in the history of trade, religion, ideas and culture across Europe and Asia. He is the author of the international best-seller The Silk Roads: A New History of the World, described as a ‘historical epic of dazzling range, ambition and achievement’ (Guardian), and ‘a rare book that makes you question your assumptions about the world’ (Wall St Journal).This discussion will look at how history has often brought different cultures into contact and how trade routes, the exchange of ideas and the developments of civilisations are linked in surprising ways. ‘EMBRACE’ BY DEAF MEN DANCING
6 NOVEMBER 2017
Deaf Men Dancing, a unique and exciting dance company consisting of all-male, professional deaf dancers, will make their UAE debut presenting a special production titled “Embrace” as part of the UK/UAE 2017 Year of Creative Collaboration. The performance will take place at the Dubai Opera Promenade on Monday, 6 November, 2017 from 6 – 7pm. ‘Embrace’, which is the creation of Deaf Men Dancing’s founder & artistic director, Mark Smith, in collaboration with Dr Ray Batchelor, a Tango Teacher for D/deaf CAN Dance!, tells the story of two strangers who meet for the first time and discover that the only way they are able to embrace each other is through Tango and sign language. The performance will be coupled with workshops on Sunday 5 and Monday 6 November with Sharjah Mime, a group of hearing impaired mime performers in
the UAE.

GEORGE’S MARVELLOUS MEDICINE NOVEMBER 2017
As part of the UK/UAE 2017 Year of Creative Collaboration, Art For All FZC, the Gulf’s exclusive provider of education and entertainment through live theatre, will be bringing Roald Dahl’s smash hit stage show George’s Marvellous Medicine to the UAE in November 2017. Performed by the Birmingham Stage Company and adapted for the stage by award-winning children’s theatre director, David Wood, this acclaimed production has already proven to be a sell-out the four times it was performed previously in the UAE. The show will tour the UAE and will be shown in theatres in Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Ras al-Khaimah. George is a boy who lives on a farm with his parents and horrible grumpy grandma, who is rather strange and tells him she’s a witch. One day, while left in charge of grandma, George decides he’s had enough of her bullying ways. Instead of giving her a dose of her normal medicine, he sets about making one of his own - with extraordinary results…

IAN DAVENPORT: CASCADE 5 NOVEMBER 2017 - 6 JANUARY 2018
As part as the UK/UAE 2017 Year of Creative Collaboration, Custot Gallery Dubai will present ‘Cascade’, the first solo exhibition in the UAE by the celebrated British artist, Ian Davenport. On show from 5 November 2017 until 6 January 2018, ‘Cascade’ continues Davenport’s study into colour relationships and the detailed timing and application of the formal elements and processes of painting. This exhibition will include some of Davenport’s newest works which are a continuation of his monumental painting, ‘Giardini Colourfall’, produced for Swatch at the 57th Venice Biennale, 2017. The public exhibition will be complemented by a range of community outreach activities as well as numerous guided tours, some of which will be adapted for students and young visitors.

ACCESSABILITIES EXPO 2017: INTERNATIONAL EXHIBITION FOR PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES 7 - 9 NOVEMBER 2017
The second edition of the Dubai AccessAbilities Expo, the region’s largest trade, professional and consumer event, aimed at enhancing the lives of people with disabilities, will be held under the Patronage of H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates Airline Group, from 7 to 9 November 2017, at the Dubai World Trade Centre. As part of The UK/UAE 2017 Year of Creative Collaboration, Warehouse421 presents In the Making, a touring exhibition from the Design Museum, London. Curated by Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby, In the Making captures objects mid-manufacture and puts the aesthetic of the unfinished centre stage. Varying from the £2 coin to a tennis ball, a surprising range of objects have been chosen by Barber and Osgerby to be exhibited in an unfinished state, celebrating the intriguing beauty of the making process and revealing the unexpected quality that everyday objects have before assuming their final, recognisable form. ABU DHABI ART PAVILION PRIZE 8 - 11 NOVEMBER 2017
The Department of Culture and Tourism - Abu Dhabi has partnered with the British Council to launch the inaugural edition of the Abu Dhabi Art Pavilion Prize as part of UK/UAE 2017 Year of Creative Collaboration. The initiative invited university students and graduates across the UAE to develop an architectural design for a Pavilion to be showcased at Abu Dhabi Art from 8-11 November. The winners of the 2017 Prize are Salwa Al Khudairi and Nada Al Mulla.
Abu Dhabi Art has partnered with the British Council and the Royal Institute of British Architects, Gulf Chapter (RIBA) to present a panel discussion on the Award and wider architectural themes as part of the public programme of talks. The talk will feature leading speakers from the UK and the Gulf in conversation with the prize winners. The winning pavilion will be exhibited at the British Ambassador’s residence for two months following the fair’s conclusion, where it will be used as a social space for
guests of the Embassy.

UK/UAE 2017 FILM FESTIVAL:CELEBRATING CULTURAL EXCHANGE THROUGH FILM
NOVEMBER 2017
The British Council in partnership with Image Nation Abu Dhabi will organise a special week-long event that brings together emerging and established filmmakers from the UK and the UAE. Building on the success of local initiatives such as Image Nation Abu Dhabi’s Arab Film Studio, this event seeks to showcase excellence in contemporary Emirati and British film, to provide a forum for professional exchange and to inspire the next generation of film-makers. The festival will consist of a film industry symposium held in Abu Dhabi followed by a touring short-film festival across the Emirates. The film festival is presented by Image Nation Abu Dhabi and the British Council, with support from the Ministry of Culture and Knowledge Development.
DUBAI DESIGN WEEK HEADLINE SPEAKER: SIR DAVID ADJAYE13 NOVEMBER 2017
Sir David Adjaye is regarded as one of the world’s most influential architects and designers. Speaking for the first time in the UAE, he will take to the Dubai Design Week stage in conversation with renowned commentator Sultan Sooud Al Qassemi, launching Dubai Design Week’s largest-ever programme of talks and workshops. Renowned for large-scale civic projects and buildings that can shape culture, the presentation promises to unveil Adjaye Associates’ approach to work across the globe. Often challenged with high profile and dynamic briefs, the practice’s commitment to embracing the social agenda behind architecture, and providing access to knowledge through his buildings gives him a unique insight into the power of architecture to reflect and enhance ethical pride in both public and private spaces.

GRAPHICSRCA:FIFTY YEARS AND BEYOND 13 - 18 NOVEMBER 2017
As part as the UK/UAE 2017 Year of Creative Collaboration, The Royal College of Art will present a major new exhibition at Dubai Design Week this November. The exhibition, titled ‘GraphicsRCA: Fifty Years and Beyond,’ will reveal the rich history of graphic design at the Royal College of Art and will illustrate how, for the past half century, the RCA has been at the forefront of all major developments in graphic communication. The exhibition features original, rarely seen works from the RCA archive, including designs made at the College by RCA alumni who have gone on to become leading practitioners. Other exhibits include RCA Film Society posters, stamps commissioned for the Royal Mail, the infamous student magazine Ark, typographic experiments, the rise of interest amongst students (and staff) in social issues such as sustainability and consumerism, and early examples from pioneers of digital design and print.

Dubai Design Week 2017 will be presenting an exhibition by UK design expert, artist, future archaeologist and photographic novelist, Paula Zuccotti, titled ‘Every
Thing We Touch’ as part of the UK/UAE 2017 Year of Cultural Collaboration. The exhibition, which is based on her acclaimed book with the same title, examines the lives of others through the physical footprint of the objects they interact with in a day. ‘Every Thing We Touch - Dubai Design Week’ explores the many cultures that make up Dubai, using everyday artefacts as the storytellers to reflect on customs, traditions and behaviours, narrating these interactions through the objects that form the fabric of our daily lives.

MIDDLE EAST: DESIGN NOW! 13 - 19 NOVEMBER 2017
As part of the UK/UAE Year of Cultural Collaboration, Dubai Design District (d3) will host an exhibition of 18 designers from across the Middle East including the UAE, Kuwait, KSA, Lebanon, Jordan, Egypt, Tunisia and Morocco. Titled Middle East: Design Now!, the exhibition showcases designers and artists from a variety of creative fields and through different mediums, many of whom are utilising traditional methods, materials and motifs in a modern day context. This demonstrates how memory and history play a part in the creation of contemporary artefacts and graphics. Co-curated by British designer, curator and author Suzanne Trocmé, the exhibition will be showcased at this year’s Dubai Design Week.

THE SHAKESPEARE GLOBESTORYTELLING WORKSHOPS
‘Globe Education Practitioners lead a Lively Action storytelling session of A Midsummer
Night’s Dream in the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse at Shakespeare’s Globe.’
An interactive 45 minute performance by Globe Education Practitioners organised by Art for All FZC. Lively Action Storytelling sessions will offer pupils aged 10 to 15 years the chance to experience the thrill of live performance across the UAE. The practitioner will deliver stories to capture their imagination and present interactive versions of The Tempest, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Henry V and Macbeth. These sessions will encourage pupils to explore Shakespeare’s narratives not just as listeners, but as storytellers too and can help pupils deepen their understanding of the ways in which they can imagine and recreate stories.

GOLDILOCKS & THE THREE BEARS, A BALLET FOR CHILDREN NOVEMBER 2017
As part of the UK/UAE 2017 Year of Creative Collaboration, Art For All FZC, the Gulf’s exclusive provider of education and entertainment through live theatre, will be bringing much-loved children’s ballet, Goldilocks & The Three Bears, to the UAE. Performed by the Northern Ballet, this beautiful production is a wonderful way to introduce little ones to the magic of live ballet, music and theatre. The show will tour the UAE and will be shown in theatres in Abu Dhabi and Dubai. Goldilocks - a mischievous little girl with hair as bright as gold, sneaks out of her house one day and finds her way into the woods when she stumbles across the bears’ woodland cottage. Nobody is home, but she finds three bowls of delicious porridge in the kitchen. Perhaps just a little taste… But what will Papa Bear, Mama Bear and Little Bear say when they return home? You’ll have to wait and see…

As part of the UK/UAE 2017 Year of Cultural Collaboration, The British School Al Khubairat is organising a week-long, multi-disciplinary project, titled Regeneration. In a series of activities, the project aims to communicate the intrinsic relationship between man-made and natural structures and their impact on the environment, while seamlessly blending cultural and heritage links between the UK and the UAE. The events taking place in November will creatively explore the relationship between art and science by engaging the students and inviting everyone to participate in depicting the theme of ‘Regeneration’ through drawing, sculpture, photography, film, music, dance and other artistic forms.

UK SPOTLIGHT AT THE DUBAI INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL 6 - 13 DECEMBER 2017
As part of the UK/UAE 2017 Year of Creative Collaboration, the British Council, with the support of the UK Government’s GREAT Campaign, will be partnering with the Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF) and the British Film Institute to present the UK Spotlight at the festival. The UK Spotlight is an initiative which aims to connect film professionals from the UK and the Arab world to exchange information, expertise and experience and to build future collaboration. The UK Spotlight will include the screening of a selection of British films as part of the film programme; a UK films section in Cinetech, the Dubai Film Market’s digital, sales and acquisitions platform for regional and international distributors, sales agents and festival programmers; a UK speaker participating in an industry related panel discussion; a networking session in the forum conference and creative and cultural exchange in ‘The Writers Room’, a platform which aims to inspire and expand individual networks across cultures.

As part of the UK/UAE 2017 Year of Creative Collaboration, the British Council and The Arts Center at New York University, Abu Dhabi will present a new ensemble work choreographed by Aakash Odedra exploring the relevance of a life in conflict. #JeSuis brings the lens upon a group of dancers whose place in the world is presented by the media as unwanted neighbours, countries where human catastrophes are a daily given. Aakash Odedra has developed #JeSuis with a group of Turkish dancers he met in Istanbul. It is inspired by their collective responses to misinterpretations of their motherland by the media. Wrapped up in wider issues of displacement, refuge and instability, both political and geographical, it portrays their frustrations of life in a homeland that doesn’t know the meaning of “home” anymore. المتحدة. واستنادا عىل النجاح الذي حققته مبادرات محلية مثل استوديو الفيلم العريب من إنتاج إيميج نيشين أبو ظيب، فإن هذه الفعالية تسعى لعرض التمزي يف األفالم اإلمارتية والربيطانية

العام.
الفائزتان بجائزة عام ٢٠١٧هما سلوى الخضريي وندى المال.
كما ويتعاون معرض فن أبو ظيب مع المجلس الثقايف الربيطاين والمعهد الملكي للمعماريين الربيطانيين: الخليج )RIBA( من أجل تقديم حلقة نقاش حول الجائزة ومواضيع معمارية أوسع
كجزء من الربنامج العام للحوارات. وستستضيف الحلقة مجموعة من المتحدثين البارزين من المملكة المتحدة والخليج للحوار مع الفائزين بالجائزة.

يجري معرض »قيد التصنيع« بتنسيق من إدوارد باربر وجاي أوسجرييب، بحيث يعرض أشياء غري منتهية الصنع ويسلط الضوء عىل جمالية الحالة غري المكتملة لألشياء. وترتاوح األعمال بين
عملة ٢ جنيه إسرتليين إىل كرة التنس. وقد اختار باربر وأوسجرييب عرض مجموعة كبرية مدهشة من األشياء يف حالتها غري المكتملة لالحتفاء بالجمال الملفت لعملية الصنع والكشف عن
الجودة غري المتوقعة اليت تتمتع بها األشياء اليت نستخدمها يف حياتنا اليومية قبل أن تتخذ شكلها النهايئ المعروف.

يجري المعرض من 5 نوفمرب ٢٠١٧وحىت ٦ يناير ٢٠١٨. ويبين »كاسكيد« عىل دراسة دافينبورت الخاصة بالعالقات بين األلوان والتوقيت المفصل وتطبيق العناصر الرسمية وعمليات الرسم. وسوف يشمل هذا المعرض بعض أحدث أعمال دافينبورت اليت تعد استمرارا لرسمه الضخم
»جيارديين كولورفول« الذي أنتجه لشركة سواتش يف بينايل البندقية السابع والخمسين يف عام ٢٠١٧.
وسوف يقرتن المعرض العام بمجموعة من أنشطة التواصل المجتمعي بما فيها العديد من

روالد دال يف اإلمارات العربية المتحدة يف نوفمرب ٢٠١٧. هذا العرض من أداء فرقة بريمنغهام المسرحية وتم تعديله للمسرح من قبل مخرج مسرح األطفال الحائز عىل جوائز عالمية، ديفيد وود. وقد حقق هذا اإلنتاج الحائز عىل استحسان كبري من الجماهري مبيعات عالية يف المرات

يروي عمل »احتضان«، وهو من تأليف مؤسس الفرقة ومخرجها الفين، مارك سميث، بالتعاون مع ،»!D/deaf CAN Dance دكتور راي باتشلور، وهو أستاذ تانغو لمؤسسة »الصم يمكنهم الرقص
قصة غريبين يلتقيان ألول مرة ويكتشفان أن الطريقة الوحيدة اليت يمكنهما عربها احتضان بعضهما البعض هي التانغو ولغة اإلشارة.
وإىل جانب العرض، سوف تعقد ورش عمل يف 5 و٦ نوفمرب مع فرقة »شارقة مايم«، وهي مجموعة تتألف من ممثلين إيمائيين صم يف اإلمارات العربية المتحدة.

تنظم جامعة بريمنغهام بالشراكة مع المجلس الثقايف الربيطاين والشريك االسرتاتيجي وزارة الثقافة وتنمية المعرفة، معرضا رقميا يف شهر نوفمرب ٢٠١٧ تعرض من خالله مخطوطة بريمنجهام
القرآنية؛ وهي نسخة رقمية لقطعة تتألف من رقاقتين جلديتين من القرآن الكريم، تم فحصهما باستخدام الكربون المشع وثبت أنهما تعودان إىل أوائل القرن السابع الميالدي مما يجعل هذه
المخطوطة إحدى النسخ األوىل اليت توجد للقرآن الكريم اليوم.
تعترب هذه المخطوطة القرآنية كزنا عالميا وتحتفظ بها يف الوقت الراهن مكتبة كادبوري لألبحاث يف جامعة بريمنجهام.
كما سيضم المعرض، الذي سيتجول يف أنحاء اإلمارات العربية المتحدة يف كل من أبوظيب

ويعد معرض الشارقة الدويل للكتاب المعرض األضخم يف المنطقة العربية ثالث أكرب معرض عىل مستوى العالم. وباعتبارها ضيف الشرف، سوف تقدم المملكة المتحدة المتمزي يف مجاالت النشر، والعالمات التجارية والكتابة الربيطانية المعاصرة، إضافة إىل عرض مخطوطة بريمنغهام القرآنية اليت تعترب كزنا عالميا يحتفظ به يف الوقت الراهن يف مكتبة كادبوري لألبحاث بجامعة
بريمنغهام.
كما تنظم وزارة التجارة الدولية لمنطقة لندن، ومشروع التنمية العالمية لصندوق التنمية اإلقليمي األورويب ورابطة الناشرين الربيطانيين منصة تتوسط معرض الكتاب. وسوف يتمكن
الناشرون من المملكة المتحدة عىل مدار يومين من مقابلة شركاء أعمال من كافة أنحاء المنطقة العربية وإيجاد فرص تجارية جديدة للتصدير وحقوق الرتجمة.
وأيضا سينظم المجلس الثقايف الربيطاين برنامج فعاليات أدبية لتسليط الضوء عىل الكتابة الربيطانية المعاصرة، سيتم خالله استضافة مؤلفين رائدين مثل نيل موخرجي وبيرت فرانكوبان.

2017 UK/UAE»UK/UAE ٢٠١٧« هو عام التعاون اإلبداعي والتبادل الثقايف بين المملكة المتحدة واإلمارات
العربية المتحدة بتنظيم من المجلس الثقايف الربيطاين، ويجري تحت رعاية صاحب السمو الشيخ محمد بن زايد آل نهيان، ويل عهد أبو ظيب نائب القائد األعىل للقوات المسلحة
لدولة اإلمارات العربية المتحدة وصاحب السمو الملكي أمري ويلز.
لقد شملت الفرتة الممتدة بين يناير ويونيو ٢٠١٧ إجراء ٢٦ مشروعا بما فيهم ١٤٠ فعالية و٩٠ عرضا سينمائيا يف ٦ إمارات بدولة اإلمارات العربية المتحدة ضمن برنامج »UK/UAE ٢٠١٧«. وقد
شارك أكرث من ثالث آالف شخص يف الحوارات وورش العمل والفعاليات المنضوية تحت مظلة الربنامج؛ كما حضر نحو ٨5 ألف زائر المعارض وعروض األداء والعروض السينمائية
والمهرجانات المقامة ضمن الربنامج أيضا.
واستمرارا لنجاح موسم الربيع، سيحمل موسم الخريف سيحمل يف طياته برنامجا ثقافيا مليئا بالفعاليات يشمل مجاالت الفنون، واآلداب، والتعليم، والمجتمع، والرياضة، والعلوم والتجارة لالحتفاء بالعالقة طويلة األمد اليت تجمع بين المملكة المتحدة واإلمارات العربية المتحدة.
وسوف يحضر الربنامج إىل اإلمارات العربية المتحدة بعض أفضل المواهب الربيطانية من مجموعة واسعة من القطاعات الثقافية.
وتشكل مواضيع المجتمع والدمج والجيل القادم جوهر الربنامج حيث سيعمل عام
