Another one of your traditions as a worshiping

community is about to become part of my worship

experiences – and I can hardly wait! Fifth Sunday

Hymn Sings are something I’ve heard you speak

about with great excitement and anticipation.

Evidently there are those in the community who

look forward to participating in the experience, too!

Our Fifth Sunday Hymn Sing on April 29th

will be a

first - in a couple of ways: 1/ It will be the first

time WE experience this event as one church. 2/ It

will be the first time I get to experience this service with you as your

pastor! (I’m all a’quiver!)

Music of just about all genres were a big part of my childhood. Favorite

memories of my childhood include singing hymns with my parents

a’capella in the car – on the porch, in the kitchen, anywhere! Mom and

Daddy were talented musicians and they were often invited to sing

together for various church and civic functions. Their fondness of

“good” church music inspired my love for “good,” worship songs with

close harmony, meaningful lyrics, and an “easily singable” melody.

That word good is relative, though, isn’t it? What’s “good” for some

may not be as “good” for others with a different taste in music. Just as

we all have our own favorite worship styles, each of us has a preferred

style of music that best enhances our worship experience. And here’s

some good news: it’s ALL good! Whether it’s the Troubadour’s

classical arrangement of “Jesu’, Joy of Man’s Desiring,” the choir’s

anthem of “To Love Our God,” or congregational singing of an old

Wesleyan hymn or spiritual, God is pleased and glorified when God sees

his beloved ones gathered together for worship, united in lifting their

voices in praise and adoration. Our focus shouldn’t be so much on the

genre of our music, but of our desire to offer God our truest and purest

devotion and love as we sing and “…make a joyful noise.”

Be sure to let Richard know a few of your favorite hymns this week so

we can include as many of those as possible. I hope you’ll plan to attend

on the 29th and invite a friend – or two. Come ready to “Lift Up Your

Voice and Sing” with the chorus of saints who will be sharing in the joy

of worshiping together in song.

Welcome New Member, Linda Martin!

Summer Frenzy has Started...More Coming Up! By Sarah Reeves

It's that time of year again, (except we are starting a little earlier than

usual), for Summer Frenzy! For those who might not know what that

is...Summer Frenzy is "summer camp" for adults. But instead of one or

two weeks of living in tents and singing around a campfire, we will enjoy

each other's company in various learning opportunities, excursions to

new places, and in sharing a meal in restaurants around town.

Sign-ups have already started for our earliest events. Tables will be set

up in the lobby of the church with sheets for each activity. Sign up for

any and/or all! Some require a nominal fee; some are the cost of a meal;

and some will be free.

Enjoy your Spring, Summer, and Fall by exploring new events and

meeting new people from your church family. These are the next events

A sincere thanks to all who supported me during this crucial time in my

life—the death of my dear brother, Paul Johnston, of Ft. Worth, Texas.

Dear Friends,

I used to think that cards were just a waste of money. “What do people

do with them after they have been read? “ How long should we keep

cards?

I am now a believer in cards, texts, emails, phone calls, etc. during one’s

illness. John and I looked forward to the mail being delivered to his

hospital room and who it was from!

Many times I would open the card and give it to him to read; sometimes

he was too weak to hold a card, so I read it to him. Every time I received

a text or email, he wanted to know who it was from. It wasn’t long until

I had the cards taped to the cabinets, windows, TV, anywhere I could put

them. The nurses were surprised that he had so many friends, but I

wasn’t. You made his day! I thank you on John’s behalf for all of the

prayers that came his way; they helped both of us.

And, now, I thank you for the food that was delivered, and again, for the

cards I have received since being home, and the love I felt when I entered

the church at Easter. Thank you for the kind words about my daughter,

Cari, Son-in-law, Tyrone and the children. We do have a special church

and I’m so glad John and I became a part of it!

On May 1, we will complete the Prophets and Kings Bible study. This

was the second in a DVD series that explores

key places in the Holy Land along with an

overview of the Old Testament from Joshua

through the fall of Jerusalem. The study covers

not only what happened, but how the

surrounding culture, geography, and even the

weather had a tremendous affect on biblical

events.

Several people who joined the study "midstream" would like to go back

to the beginning, others would like to repeat it, and we know of others

who were not able to take it the first time who would like to take it. So,

the class will be repeated. There are two sections, each one lasting 6

weeks. Each time we meet for about an hour and a half. The study is

open to everyone; men and women. There is an accompanying book, but

you do not need to use the book if you do not want to. If you need to

miss a day every once in a while, that is okay. You don't need perfect

attendance!

If you are interested in being part of the next session, I need some

information to help determine when to have it. I need to know:

1) How soon you want it to start (can be as soon as the week of May

8, or we can wait until later on -- like the first of June)

2) What day(s) of the week and time(s) are best for you (Some people

could not come to the current study because Tuesday afternoons

Missions Moment By Karen Maudsley, Missions Member

Liberty Road Faith Fellowship seeks to become the hands and feet of Christ in the world through engagement in missions.

Even though we will not actually take up the offering until the first of October for Living Water International, we wanted to ask everyone to start saving their coins.

We will have cups available that you will be able to use to put your change in. Look for the cups in the foyer on our Fifth Sunday, April 29. But you don’t have to limit yourself to one cup. This may be just change to us, but to those who do not have clean water, every quarter, nickel, dime, and penny is a treasure! I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink. Matthew 25:35b

But Officer! I really didn’t mean to!

We knew it would happen sooner or later...Yep. Pastor Lisa set off the alarm at church. All I can say is, “Welcome to the Club!” We’ve all done that at one time or another. I can tell you from experience that it’s not a lot of fun. In fact, it’s rather nerve wracking. But you know it’s not a big deal when you can walk away with a smile.

A “Getting to Know You Better” Picture... Are you now or have ever been an engineer....electrical, mechanical,

civil, etc.? If you are (or were), we’d like to have a group picture of

anyone who fits that bill. Please see Sarah Reeves in the front of the

sanctuary this coming Sunday so that she can get a group picture. And

let her know what kind of engineer you represent.
