Today, we will identify basic human needs of food, clothing, and shelter. In addition, we will explain how basic human needs can be met, such as through self-producing, purchasing, and trading.

First, we will define “basic human needs”

Next, we will discuss how to met one of the basic human needs - food

Then, we will take a virtual field trip to Trader Joe’s Grocery Store

Lastly, we will discuss how Trader Joe’s helps met one of our basic human need - food

The class will participate in a virtual field trip to Trader Joe’s Grocery Store by using visual, contextual and linguistic support to understand more complex spoken language with support. In addition, as a class we will discuss what we saw during the virtual field trip speaking in complete sentences to communicate.

What are basic human needs?

Basic human needs are important things you need in order to live. Basic human needs include:

Food

Shelter (Housing – A place where you stay or dwell)

Clothing

Basic human needs keep us healthy and safe. Today, we will focus on one of the basis human needs listed above – Food.

Where do we find food?

Food can be found: Outside in a personal garden – self producing Visiting a grocery store – purchasing Exchanging at a market – trading

Let’s explore how we purchase food in a grocery store! Today, we are taking a virtual field trip to Trader Joe’s Grocery Store. Before we start the adventure, draw a picture of two food

items you might find at Trader Joe’s Grocery Store. Label your pictures. (Complete the Before the Trip Assessment)

During the tour, try to find the food items you drew as well as food items you would purchase at Trader Joe’s that meets basic human needs.
