Curation
➔ helping learners sort through and organize information
➔ skills necessary to retrieve that information
➔ expectations for research (Google search? Google Scholar? Wikipedia? Other databases?)
Pennycritical thinking; checking sources; good vs bad -- how do they know? How do you teach them?

Defining curation:Content curation is the process of collecting, organizing and displaying information relevant to a particular topic or area of interest. Services or people that implement content curation are called curators. Curation services can be used by businesses
➔ Texting for communicating information➔ Social media for interaction➔ Google voice for communication
PennyKeeping these ideas in mind can help you determine best uses for mobile applications for your learners.Question: What technology tools do you use now; and how do they align with this list of the Four C’s?
Lets look at specific applications that align to the four C’s --

It is all about camera roll and publishing!
App Smashing by Greg Kulowiec
Philosophy - use a combination of apps to create a projectmultimedia book, movies, common craft-like videos,
“The key to is the camera roll – use apps that can save to camera roll or take screen captures and bring them in. What’s important is that content be created, but it doesn’t have to be digital. Imagine a student who creates in the real world, takes a picture or video, brings it into a product, and publishes to the web. The idea is creation and publishing without limits.” by Greg Kulowiec

Supplemental application for our shared Moodle course “College Transitions and Career Preparation”
This simple vocabulary building application will help anyone with the words usually used when getting ready for college, or preparing to go to work. The clean interface allows users to learn words and definitions quickly and test their knowledge through two activities to match the word with their definitions. These words align with an online course created by the Outreach and Technical Assistance Network in California, (see www.otan.us).

BlairRead article in OTAN NewsletterListening Assessment through Google VoiceMary Bizigos and Nilou Shokrani, ESL teachers from Palo Alto Adult School - pilot program they created at their school. They named their presentation “Using Google Voice to Evaluate Outside Oral Assessment Activities.” Working with their administrator, Bizigos and Shokrani provided their students a unique opportunity to demonstrate their ability to converse with community members while using Google Voice to record the conversation. 1. Students practiced conversations in the classroom to prepare for the activity. 2. When ready, they ventured out into the community. Each student presented an introductory letter to a member of the community and with approval, began the activity. 3. Using the student’s cell phone, the student called the teacher’s Google Voice number. Once the call was established and the message recorder was activated, the student began the interview. 4. Students were required to ask for information and then repeat that information back to the community member. 5. The interaction was recorded to the teacher’s Google Voice account. 6. Bizigos and Shokrani used a rubric to grade the student’s performance as they listened to the recording. This project demonstrates how the use of technology, along with creative thinking and
thorough planning, can enhance the learning experience and provide unique learning opportunities to our students.
