1.1 Research Goals
1.1.1 Aim :
The Research done in the topic Employee Satisfaction in Eveready
Industries India Ltd., Chennai on the workmen
The main aim of doing the research is to identify and analyze the level of
satisfaction among the workmen towards the work and to recommend the
corrective action.
1.1.2. Objectives:
The objectives to be achieved are:
1. To know about the company and its various departments:
This has helped me to know the insight of the company. The Eveready
Company, Chennai is founded in the year 1952 due to the demands posted
by the batteries. It is the second manufacturing unit after the establishment
of the first plant in Kolkata. It is producing the batteries which are highest
produced by the Eveready. The various sizes of the batteries being
produced by the Eveready company are D and AA size. The company is
manufacturing varieties of the batteries so as to meet the customer
requirement from urban to rural and young generation to older generation.
The Various departments in the company are:
a. Personal Department
b. Accounts Department
c. Material Department
d. Production Department
e. Quality Department
f. Engineering Department
2. To Have discussion with the workmen, their superiors and managers:
Before framing the questionnaire, a brief discussion with the workmen,
their superiors and managers were done. It has helped me to find their
opinions which further have helped me to frame the questions accordingly
3. To find various factors responsible for the satisfaction of employees:

According to the past survey done. It is found that the various factors
responsible for the satisfaction of the employees are:
a. Training, development, and career;

h. Organization environment;
i. Co-workers; and so on
And based on the above factors, questions are framed.
4. To analyze the factors responsible for employee satisfaction:
The above objective has helped me to find out to which level the
employees are satisfied and based on that, the possible actions are taken.
5. To suggest the possible solution:
This has helped both the management and employees to taken proper
action by coordinating each other to meet the overall objectives of the
firm.
1.1.2 Key questions to be examined:
The Key questions examined are:
1. Whether the workmen know about the goals(Organization, team and own)
- It has helped me to know about the workmen that to
which extent they are knowledgeable about it.
2. What is the motivation level of the workmen?
- This question has helped to identify the factors
responsible for their motivation, and to which extent
they are in the form of recognition, individual attention
by the superiors, pay and benefits, etc,.

3. What is the satisfaction level of the workers?
- The above question helped to identify the factors
responsible for the satisfaction of the employees. The questions framed in
the questionnaire are in the form of getting support and resources,
discussion with the supervisors to achieve the production target,
suggestion taken into consideration.
1.2 OUTLINE METHODOLOGY OF THE RESEARCH:
1.2.1 Type of research design:
Here, descriptive research design is used. This is don for the following purpose:
1. To describe the characteristics of the relevant group.
2. To estimate the percentage of the units in a specified population
exhibiting a certain behavior.
3. To determine the perception of the employee’s characteristics.
4. To make specific predictions.
1.2.2 Data collection:
a) It is used among the workmen to get the result for the research to
be done. It is done because it takes less time and can be distributed to
many and get the responses quickly.
b) Interviewing method :
It is used among the workmen, superiors and mangers to know
about the details before the framing of the questionnaire.
1.2.3 Scaling procedure:
Scales from the level 2 to 7 are taken based on the various
questions that are framed. Measurement scales are nominal, ordinal
and interval. Likert scale is used here.

1.2.4 Sampling Technique:
Here, out of 350 of the population size of the workmen,50 respondents are
chosen. Hence, the percentage of the respondents is about 14%.this is
more than required size to have a fair generalization of the target
population.
Based on the time constraints and safety issue, it is advised to get the
responses in the HR department. The sampling type is convenience
sampling but snowball sampling is also used so that employees can come
forward to give responses.
1.2.5 Data Analysis Technique:
Here, the analysis of the results is done in the form of tables, bar charts
and pie chart so that it will be helpful for the reader to go through it easily.

COMPANY PROFILE:
Eveready Industries India Limited is one of the India’s most reputed FMCG
companies. The company has a portfolio which comprises of dry cell batteries,
packets tea, and poweron (mosquito repellent).
Eveready is the India’s largest selling brand of dry cell batteries and flashlights with
market shares of about 46% and 85% respectively .It is the world’s third largest
producer of carbon zinc batteries, selling more than a billion units a years. Its
carbon zinc batteries dominate the Indian market with a complete range for all
equipment types.
The Eveready brand is synonymous with power, with a durable franchise that has
spanned over a century. The new tagline “The Next Century of power “. Affirms
Eveready’s commitment to being technology leaders well into the future, evolving
with consumers to meet their changing needs.
From small beginnings with an import consignment in 1905 of Rs 500, Eveready
today dominates the Indian market and stands for the portable power and light to

2.2 ABRIEF HISTORY
Eveready industries India ltd.(EIIL)(formerly known as Union Carbide India,
Limited) is the flagship company of the B.M.Khitan Group.EIIL started its
operation in India in the year 1905.the first dry cell batteries were imported from
USA and sold in the major cities of the country. These batteries were primarily in
imported torches.
In 1939, the country setup is first battery plant in Kolkata. This was followed by
another battery manufacturing plant in Chennai in the year 1952.to boost up the
market for batteries, it was logical for the company to setup a torch manufacturing
plant. Due to this. torch manufacturing plant was set upped in Lucknow in the year
1958.today,it is one of the largest torch manufacturing plants in South East Asia.
This plant manufacturing the full rang of brass, aluminum and plastic torches.
2.3 MILSTONES:
1905: National Carbon starts its Indian operations with the sale of batteries
imported from USA.
1926: Eveready Company India sets up the first carbon factory at canal road,
Kolkata.
1934: Eveready Company incorporated as a private company on 12th
November.
1939:Camperdown works-first modern battery plant established at
Cossipore in Kolkata
1941: Union Batteries merges with Eveready Company and the name is
changes to National Carbon Company.
1951: Renamed as union carbide India Ltd.,a subsidiary of the word wide
multinational, union carbide corporation.

1958: Company set its torch manufacturing plant in Lucknow, one of the
largest in south Asia.
1959: Name of the company changed to union carbide India Ltd., plant in
Bhopal, India.
1995:sale of shares of union corporation in union carbide India Ltd., to Mc.
Leod Russel(India)Ltd. Belonging to Williamson major group and new
name-Eveready Industries India ltd.(EIIL)
1996:Mc.Leod Russel (India) Ltd. Merged with EIIL, bulk tea business
brought into EIIL fold.
2000: Bishnauth Tea Company merged with Eveready Industries India ltd.
2005: Brand EVEREADY is hundred years old.

Eveready Industries India is endeavoring to become the second
largest carbon zinc battery maker in the world. At present, the
company produces 1.2 billion batteries and the vision was to take it
to two billion batteries over the next few years. If the company
manages to achieve a production capacity of two billion batteries,
then it would pip Energizer and become the second largest carbon
zinc battery maker in the world. The largest carbon zinc battery
maker was Matsushita with 2.8 billion batteries. Deepak Khaitan,
executive vice chairman and managing director Eveready

Industries India said, the company was currently the third largest
carbon zinc manufacturer with a capacity of 1.2 billion batteries,
which included exports and original equipment manufacturers
(OEMs). As part of its vision, Eveready was adding a new line in
Kolkata and a Greenfield facility in Uttaranchal with a capital
expenditure of Rs 40 core. The project would be financed through
internal accruals. The Uttaranchal facility would start off with
production of brass flashlights and then start producing batteries.
Further, the company was also eyeing the Chinese market and was
in discussions with three companies for a joint venture, where
Eveready would have 25-45 per cent stake. Khaitan said, the
decision on the specific company would be reached by the end of
the financial year. Meanwhile, Calcutta High Court has approved
the demerger of bulk tea business of Eveready. Khaitan said.
McLeod Russel will be reborn in the next 4-6 weeks. He added
that the demerger would enhance shareholder value.

battery testing laboratory accredited by National Accreditation Board for
Testing & Calibration Laboratories (NABL) - where batteries can be
tested as per BIS, IEC and JEC standards
b) .Eveready’s research team constitutes highly qualified Scientists,
Engineers, Chemists and Technicians dedicated to maintaining technology
leadership in Zinc-Carbon batteries, Flashlights and related components.
c) The Research Centre has Pilot Plant facilities, Analytical testing facilities
such as Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer (AAS), Polarograph, X-
Ray Diffractometer (XRD) and a Chemical Laboratory. The Eveready
Research Centre is capable of providing world-class testing and research
support to meet stringent customer requirements from across the world.
d) Eveready has always pursued and advocated the best prevailing
management practices. The team is alert to changes in the domestic and
international markets resulting in higher standards of excellence. When the
TQM wave from Japan hit India in the mid 80’s, the organization planned
the realignment of its management system with focus towards customer
satisfaction. The organization was restructured and a Basic Training
