ABSTRACT
Literature is created from the author’s imaginations and ideas. It can beapplied from human’s daily activities. Reading literature gives us many advantages inseveral aspects. Reading literature can refresh our mind, add our feeling andimagination. It also makes us get enjoyment because it is dealing with human life.Film belongs to part of literature as drama. Film usually involves actors and actress tobe performed. Films also use script to make easier actors and actress during they areacting. Films are made to entertain and convey messages to audience.
This study focuses on malpractice case of Clayton Berresford as the maincharacter. There are three statement of the problems. Those are:1) What kinds ofmalpractice are faced by Clayton Berresford in the film “Awake“?, 2) What is thedoctor’s motive to have malpractice to Clayton Berresford in the film “Awake“?, 3)What is the effect of malpractice toward himself and his family in the film “Awake“?
This research uses descriptive qualitative research design, because it isintended to find out the phenomenon related to malpractice faced by ClaytonBerresford in the film “Awake”. The approach of this study is objective approachbecause it does not need to study author’s life or the background of society, butphenomenon of malpractice faced by Clayton Berresford in the film “Awake”. Thefilm “Awake” is the object of the study.
Clayton Berresford gets medical malpractice, because Dr Jack Harper does anincompatible action to him during transplant surgery process. He is still awake duringtransplant surgery process. Dr Jack Harper has some reasons to kill ClaytonBerresford by doing malpractice. First, Clayton is one of a successful man in his city,and he belongs to a single heir in his family. Second, Dr Jack Harper has many owesfrom lawsuit, because he has four malpractice cases in that hospital. Malpracticecauses Lilith as Clayton’s mother die, because she gives her heart for ClaytonBerresford. It also causes Clayton pain and suffering, because he is still awake duringtransplant surgery process, but he cannot scream and gets paralyze.
