“You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown” Director’s Notes
I began my career in theatre at Davis and Elkins College in Elkins, WV before moving on to New York. My freshman year, 1980, at D & E we produced “You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown.” At this point I had little experience and was not particularly fond of musical the-atre, but I was cast as Lucy! I learned very quickly how different musical theatre was from performing “straight” plays. I learned about using song and dance to tell the sto-ry too! As musical theatre goes, for me, this show is tops! Based on the original characters from the beloved comic strip, including Patty (not Peppermint Patti,) this story is so simplistic that it makes it incredibly easy to forget the “grown up” world around us and get lost in the simple pleasures of life – like when we were 8 years old and our biggest problem was how many Valentines we got! Let yourself go, remember the freedom and the simple joys with the Peanuts gang!
